The IPTA certification was an overall good experience and I would use them again. First, the certification and its corresponding test is made by the same company that mass produces CPT training materials, which I appreciated.

Second, it is very affordable as far as NCCA accredited CPT's go, which opens up a lot of doors for employment in the US.

My course came with a complimentary online study guide and the full textbook. Even at the lowest tier package, I still had access to online quizzes and helpful mnemonic tools.

I would say that the textbook is by and far the best resource both for learning personal training and for passing the exam. The online study guide is a great resource to solidify concepts you've already pulled from the textbook, but it is too abridged to fully educate a particularly new personal trainer.

The certification exam is very well done. It is difficult, comprehensive, and very well proctored. I also noticed that a significant amount of questions transcended simple definitions and concepts and focused on practical skills based on situations personal trainers would reasonably encounter.

If you pass the exam, you should be competent that you are well equipped to function as a personal trainer (provided you really read that textbook and didn't rush).

I became employed within 2 months of earning my cert, from a local adaptive personal training company. Adaptive personal training is very corrective exercise focused, and I felt the IPTA textbook provided a solid foundation for that line of work. The job itself is fulfilling and there is enough of a market in my area to make reliable income.

Comprehensive training platform for different learning styles. I did feel the training only covered about 75% of the questions on the exam. This program help you get a great score on the exam but I had to use supplementary learning materials.

Great experience. The training materials were top notch and the platform was easy to navigate. IPTA made obtaining the CPT certification accessible, affordable, and rewarding.

Great material and very informative. The review and study information is set up for you to succeed as long as you follow the guidelines set forth by IPTA within the study material. I had a lot of questions pertaining to getting scheduled for the exam and they were always prompt and helpful and getting the exam scheduled in a timely manner. I would highly recommend IPTA to anyone looking to get a CPT certification and start their fitness instructor goals!

I got my cert with IPTA and got hired at a big box gym. I like how it included flashcards and chapter review quizzes to make sure I remembered the contents of what I read.

My IPTA certification journey was beyond expectations!

The study material was comprehensive and relevant to what is required to learn and know as a certified personal trainer.

And, it certainly will prepare you to pass the exam.

With that said, this high-quality certification program can't be beat!

Loved the IPTA study guide. The web app is organized and easy on the eyes - made learning material super palatable, and catered to different learning styles! Was able to pass my certification comfortably on the first try after using the study guide at my own pace.

Well-rounded coursework with a lot of value. It only took a few months and I was moving at a relaxed pace. I intended to get my CPT for hypertrophy/basic strength and learned much more in that category. I appreciated learning about how weightlifting causes adaptation throughout you're entire system and IPTA's flashcards were helpful memorizing info. I'd recommend utilizing the testing categories and retest on incorrect answers, as that helped shore up gaps in my knowledge. A lot more affordable vs other NCCA accredited certifications!

My experience was great because they’re very responsive in the email. The material it left was easy to study. I love the flash cards. My only complaint is that there isn’t a phone number to get answers. The phone support is very basic, and makes you email for everything outside of basic things. Outside of that, it was great and I am happy with my cert. Will recommend them to anyone seeking a certification!

Self-Paced course was comprehensive and easy to follow. I got certified a few years ago and am now working at my own gym - Iron Legacy Barbell in Idaho. Being certified definitely allows me to get clients and gives them faith in my abilities. Found ITPA to be very affordable.

Pursuing a Personal Training certification through IPTA was an important step in starting my career in the fitness and rehabilitation industry. Because of my undergraduate degree, it only took about 3 months to work through the material and take the exam. Obtaining the certification was affordable and the educational resources made the studying process straight forward. The content helped prepare me to work with clients and gave me pivotal experience in the field prior to becoming a physical therapist. I would highly recommend the certification for those looking to start or deepen their career in an affordable and accessible way.

The textbook was very well organized and helpful for the exam. Trainer helped me prepare for not only becoming a personal trainer, but I used their resources to help prepare for the MCAT and am now in my first year of medical school.

IPTA was a great certification for a few reasons. I was certified through IPTA in 2023. The IPTA process was similar to other programs but a little simpler. Not simpler in terms of ease but in terms of resources, assistance, and navigating testing and study materials. Other orgs have great learning systems but they can be too dense or lack support. IPTA had a great system and offered great suppport and resources.

I chose IPTA because I know their reputation and their program was a bit more supportive than other orgs. It fit my schedule as I work full time and have kids. I the study materials are top notch and not too dense, and filled with great references and tips to help reinforce the topics.

IPTA has helped me stay up to date on the latest fitness trends and offers nice resources for continuing education.

I have been working as a personal trainer part time at a national non profit gym.

I enjoyed the IPTA certification and especially the support I got. I think that’s where the org excels compared to the larger certifying agencies. Less gimmicks, more learning.

I completed my certification in July of 2025. The ability to set your course length made the curriculum very easy to digest. The website layout is very intuitive. I have since taken on 4 clients with varying fitness levels, and am enjoying watching them progress and become more and more invested in their fitness "journeys".

The certification process was straightforward. Once I passed the exam it opened the door for me to see clientele that I was otherwise unable to. My only issue so far is the ability to re-certify. The process is glitchy and I have not been able to submit my CEUs or actually get recertified for the next 2 year cycle.

I received my IPTA certification last year, choosing the program primarily for its affordability. I found the study materials to be exceptionally clear and efficient. The certification process was streamlined and effective, and communication from the guys at IPTA was too notch.
I got a job right after completion at a boutique fitness studio and afterwards moved in to work at a physiotherapy clinic. Working at the clinic, the IPTA certification significantly bolstered my foundational knowledge in movement mechanics and exercise progression, enabling me to communicate more confidently and provide clearer, more effective exercise instruction to patients. I highly recommend IPTA for its excellent materials and practical application in professional settings.

This is a great way to enter into the world of Personal Training, the materials are excellent, and the variety of ways the information is presented really helps with retention and understanding. I found the explanations of human anatomy and kinetics to be the most useful. Also, customer support is responsive. I managed to secure a personal training job within 4 weeks of completing the course and had many other offers, There were a few points in the exam that weren’t well covered in the material, or I missed them, but I passed first time which shows how comprehensive the material is.

I got certified over the summer of 2025. This was a fantastic process overall, the study material was easy to use and applied directly to the exam and everyday personal training.

I’m currently still working as a personal trainer and run my own At-Home training LLC, where I go to client’s homes to help them workout.

I wouldn’t be where I am with my business without IPTA. The flexibility of their program along with the affordability of the study tools and exam made IPTA an easy choice for me when I was looking to earn my CPT.

Good value and easy to learn.
HOWEVER, a lot of companies want you to get a CPT from a more recognized organization. But as long as your company is ok with any accredited org you'll be fine.
That being said, I was able to get a job as a CPT within a month of completing my test. The job site is at my local community center where we get a good flow of clients from a nearby sports rehab facility. I would say that the material was easy to follow, you get the textbook as a pdf but the site has a feature that gives you summaries of each chapter with a short quiz after. Definitely recommend to anyone trying to get a good value, but just check what the jobs in your area require.

I first discovered IPTA (formerly known as Trainer Academy) when I was looking for free CPT certification programs. Luckily at the time IPTA was offering a program to students in need of financial assistance. I was able to be part of the first 500 applicants to get a free CPT certificate. During this time IPTA communicated well and was easy to work with. I am forever thankful to be a part of such a cool opportunity. I was able to get my foot in the door because of this. They have grown a lot since I was first joined and I am happy to recertify with them again. Now they are NCCA qualified they are a great company to trust whether that’s for aiding in study materials or gaining a certification from IPTA themselves.
