Up Norway レビュー 

As we are having this year´s summer holidays in Oslo, we decided to test the new concept, ”A Taste of Local Secrets” from Up Norway. We opted for the 24-hour alternative. Within short we got our itinerary through the very helpful app including all the necessary details for our trip. Day one started with a visit to beautiful Grøndalen Gård via the scenic route through the summery green outskirts of Oslo. Upon arrival at Grøndalen we were greeted by our lovely hosts Hans Arild and Anne. They could inform us that the farm has been in the family since the 1600s. We got to take part in the afternoon milking of the cows (including the optional tasting ) and feeding of the calves. Hans Arild and Anne are an endless source of information on history and local sustainable farming, for example all the calves get to spend their first months together with their mother – happy cows and great milk. We got the tour of the farms “cheese factory” where they create their local cheese Nyr before we ended our stay with a light meal getting to taste different versions of Nyr paired with homemade jam and bread. A truly great and unique experience.

We ended our first day with a delicious 4-course dinner at Bar Brutus, a really cool restaurant right in our own backyard in Gamlebyen (old Oslo). The staff was really friendly and helpful, the organic wine tasteful and the food really delicious. The icing on the cake was the dessert made from milk from Grøndalen Gård with a sauce made from Nyr.

The second day we spent at beautiful Håøya, a one hour boat-ride through the fjord from Oslo harbor. This is a beautiful place with lots of history and stunning nature. We started with lunch at Håøya Naturverksted, a truly amazing place where they make their own goat cheese without any electricity on the island!!! The goats are hand-milked every morning, and the rest of the day they run freely around the island. The bread is baked every day in a wood burning stove. The lunch was really tasteful, we got to try three different goat cheeses and it is really impressive how they manage to make such great food out there. Our host Helge was really friendly and full of local knowledge, and he also helped us plan our 2,5 hour long walk across the island. The scenery on the walk was beautiful, we got to see the remnants of the old fortress and we are pretty sure we saw one of the eagles who have taken residence in the habitat on the island. The walk ended on the southeastern side of the island where we were picked up by the local ferry and taken to Drøbak. There we took a cooling swim overlooking the beautiful fortress of Oscarsborg before riding the bus back to Oslo.

We had 24 amazing hours guided by Up Norway with useful and timely support along the way, exceptionally great service and high quality unique local experiences. We will definitely use Up Norway again for future adventures both around Oslo and throughout the rest of Norway.

Thanks to the staff for seeing nothing but opportunities all the time. A little disappointed that Up Norway did not organize better weather at “vestlandet” our last week☺.
