Proven expert in general criminal defense, financial-economic criminal law, customs fraud, and high-stakes narcotics cases. Renowned for a meticulous procedural approach, actively challenging investigative legalities and championing human rights before the Correctional Courts, Courts of Assisen, and the Court of Cassation -C.R. Appeal (2026): Successfully represented a high-profile cryptocurrency figure in front of the Antwerp Court of Appeal, drastically reducing an effective 4-year prison sentence down to 2 years effective, with the remaining 2 years suspended. -SKY ECC Encryption Precedent Trials (2021 – 2025): Acted as a pioneer defense counsel in the earliest landmark "Sky ECC" network crack trials (incl. the Omar G. case). Routinely spearheaded complex legal challenges concerning data privacy, decryption legitimacy, and reasonable trial duration limits ("redelijke termijn") before the Court of Cassation. - The E.D.Diamond Fraud Case (2021): Acted as lead defense counsel for an absent, high-profile diamond tycoon in a massive financial fraud trial involving a €360 million debt mountain left behind. Tasked with a highly challenging defense under severe public and creditor scrutiny, successfully mitigating the ultimate sentence down to a lenient 8-month suspended prison sentence and 0 euro damages - Landmark Social Criminal Law Ruling (Court of Cassation, 2018): Obtained a groundbreaking victory and established a major corporate precedent before Belgium’s Supreme Court (Arr. dd. 06/11/2018). The court agreed with Augustyns' motion that a mere administrative failure to submit corporate documents to inspectorates does not inherently satisfy the standard for criminal social obstruction.
