AWFUL!

AWFUL!! I use it as a way to get my tips from my waitressing job, and for the first four months they took 20% tax off and hadn’t reported it to HMRC! Still trying to sort this out but am continuing to lose 20% off of all of my tips without the hope of a tax refund as HMRC still has no idea I’m even receiving income from them.

To clarify, the full amount of your tip goes directly to the staff as part of their hard-earned wages. We don’t take any commission from tips. The additional fee you were charged covers payment processing and transaction fees.

Processing and transaction fees include those levied by our payment processors and bank charges. We're working tirelessly to reduce these, but processing payments does have a cost.

Pracuję jako kelnerka w Warszawie i TiPJAR całkowicie zmienił sposób, w jaki otrzymujemy napiwki. Teraz dostaję je od razu na konto, bez czekania tygodniami na wypłatę i bez obaw, ÅŒe ktoś je "zgubi". Aplikacja jest bardzo przejrzysta – widać dokładnie, ile się otrzymało i od kogo (anonimowo kwotowo). To ogromna motywacja i docenienie cięŌkiej pracy. Dziękuję!

Fees not clear


EDIT: TipJar flagged this review in an unsuccessful attempt to have it removed. Very poor and shows what the company are like. I would really urge people to avoid!!!

When tipping in a bar there is a set amount displayed on screen. No mention of extra fees being added to this to go to the company.
It is clearly also designed to not be overly clear the transaction has gone through.
I tipped numerous times yesterday and was not happy to find all had been charged a fee. Whilst this might be minimal I would rather give the money to the staff. It really should be displayed clearly also!
Given this and the reviews I will not be using Tipjar again.

We do display a processing fee on screen before payment, and 100% of the tip amount itself goes directly to the staff. TiPJAR does not take a commission from tips. The additional charge covers payment processing costs and cannot be taken from the tip pool.

Non existent customer service

TipJar's customer service is extremely poor. There are no links or contacts anywhere on their website (on purpose?) for when you need assistance. That, if actually their website or app works, as it never does!!

Underhanded business practice, bad for customers

I was glad to see an easy way to tip, but charging £2.18 when the machine had £2 in huge, bright lettering is scummy and underhanded, so I will not use Tipjar again. It is disgusting to hit customers who are trying to reward good service with sneaky extra charges.

Edited - the same response from the company as to every other customer complaining, as if we don't know about service charges. That is not the point of the bad reviews - Customers are asking for the FINAL, ACTUAL PRICE to be the displayed amount on the TipJar screen - not a huge, bright, colourful £2 when that is not the charged amount. Pretending this is an "education" issue, solved by informing customers about service charges is patronising and avoiding the genuine complaint - yet another horrible business practice.
