Not a full-fledged migraine provider - cannot order tests or make referrals
Crap experience. Cove was recommended as a virtual provider through my United healthcare app (should have been the first flag I guess, but I hoped that would mean it was at least convenient and covered). Firstly the form takes forever, requires a very detailed and lengthy history and then suddenly videos that need to be a tiny file size (had to retake a number of times as zip files didn't work). At the end they say they can't do anything but that I should come back after I get a primary care doctor to get me an MRI. Which no primary care doctor has agreed to because that is extreme and not at all warranted by my symptoms. And if cove cannot order additional testing for migrane-related issues on their own, considering most virtual care providers can make specialist referrals or order blood work/etc., then they aren't really a full-fledged migraine provider. They should clearly state what they can and cannot support with up front. Still charged me of course...
Both the app and website won't even letâŠ
Both the app and website won't even let you do a provider consultation, I did all the troubleshooting recommended and waited a week and it still didn't work. Reached out to the care team a second time asking if I can get a refund if not a different way to finish my consultation and it's been a few days and I'm still waiting for a reply after sending my account info for Cove. This is extremely frustrating given I've been suffering from migraines for years and have yet to find a provider that will let me try migraine medication.
Horrific consult and unethical billing practices
I had a very disappointing experience with Cove that raises concerns about both their clinical practices and billing transparency.
Cove markets itself as a specialized migraine and headache care provider, including for more complex cases. After completing intake and engaging in detailed, good-faith communication, my care was ultimately declined due to âuncertaintyâ around diagnosis and medication history - issues that are standard in headache medicine and typically resolved through clinical dialogue, record review, and follow-up.
Despite my repeated offers to clarify my medical history and provide additional information, care was denied before a full assessment occurred. The initial evaluation was handled by a non-neurologist, and when I requested escalation, the decision was affirmed by a neurologist/medical director without any direct interaction or discussion with me.
In parallel, Coveâs billing structure was extremely unclear. Even with employer-sponsored insurance and having met my in-network deductible and out-of-pocket maximum, I received inconsistent and confusing explanations about ongoing care fees, insurance coverage, and subscription-style charges. I was unable to get a clear, upfront understanding of my financial responsibility before care was declined.
Overall, Cove did not deliver the specialty care experience it advertises. The combination of premature denial of care, lack of meaningful clinical engagement, and opaque billing makes it difficult to recommend this service to patients seeking serious migraine management.
I would caution others to seek clear confirmation of both clinical eligibility and total cost expectations before proceeding with Cove.
I donât usually write reviews, so that should tell you just how frustrated I am.
I almost never leave reviews, but today pushed me to warn others. I have not seen or interacted with any provider from this company in over a year, yet I was charged out-of-pocket for so-called ârecentâ care that did not occur.
I requested clarification because no itemized bill, encounter notes, or fee schedule was provided to justify the charge. Iâve demanded a refund, a detailed statement, the applicable fee schedule, and immediate account closure. If this isnât resolved promptly, I will dispute the charge with my bank and file complaints with the appropriate regulators.
In my opinion, this is unacceptable and feels like fraudulent billing. Avoid this company and choose a reputable healthcare provider.
UPDATE (10/20/25): After going back and forth with this provider and confirming that I did not receive care on the date in question â including providing documentation showing I was seen by another provider just three days earlier for my migraines (and would not see two different providers for the same treatment) â they claimed I was charged a copay simply because I opened the email for the provider check-in. Apparently, opening the email alone counts as a âvisit,â even though you must click a link inside the message to actually begin the check-in, or log into your account from a web browser, which I never did. I canât make this up. Iâve reported this to my insurance company and bank, in addition to exploring additional regulatory agencies to file a complaint with.
Frauds. They charged me Upfront
They charged me over $140 upfront and then in the name of consultation started dragging the whole process.
At first they made it seem like this is a relatively easy and quick online process and then after uploading multiple video retakes and giving them blood pressure information that falls within the normal range, they wanted me to upload more videos and test my blood pressure on 3 different days with in 7 days! I wasted whole day yesterday navigating their failed video BS. They never tell any of these before taking your hard earned money first.
I told them I don't have time for this, I want my refund. There is pin-drop Silence from them. Looks like I need to contact my credit card company.
$150 is something they daily collect from unsuspecting victims who they call clients, but for me that is a lot of my hard earned money which is not easy to come by.
I do not recommend these crooks!
I will try Zip health next. If these crooks don't refund i will contact my credit card company and have do get them to take care of these frauds who take your money and do not deliver the goods.
Donât use. Scammers
I used them in the past and they were fine but when I went to use them after a couple years off I paid the fee for an evaluation and prescription, was promptly locked out of my account, and itâs impossible to get a human on the phone who will help. They keep referring me back to text bots. The text bots do nothing. I guess theyâve been taken over by scammers.
Save a migraine and go see a primaryâŠ
Save a migraine and go see a primary care doctor. They make you jump through hoops, waste so much of your time. What I couldn't get from them, I got from a primary care doctor same day!
If it were possible to give a â0â
If it were possible to give a â0â, I would. My experience began okay. I jumped through all their hoops and did the videos and gave a lengthy history. Their MD determined that I am not a candidate for migraine medication at this time so I am out the $99 consultation fee AND they have hit my card for $45 medication charge. As per gaslighting usual, (if you are a woman you know), I was told to prioritize quality sleep, eat right & exercise all of which I DO ANYWAY!!! Do NOT use this company!
Don't care about patients
My experience with Cove began fine. They prescribed a prescription that gave me relief from debilitating headaches. But then the doctor started insisting I move to a more expensive medication that I didn't want. I wanted to keep what would work. He told me that he would no longer refill my prescription and had to move to this new treatment. I cancelled and ordered the medication from another provider. This is a scam company that tries to lure you in and then switch you to their more expensive "proprietary" treatment. Don't fall for it. Start with someone else.
I filled out a consult for nothing
I filled out a consult. This was very time consuming with numerous questions and recording videos. Received an email from the company that my account (created 2020) is too old. I was instructed to create a new one. I would have to enter the consult from scratch. Cove wasting customers time like this is extremely disrespectful. Now I know what service not to use.
Long time customer and just recentlyâŠ
Long time customer and just recently unable to get prescription big miscommunication between company and providing pharmacies. Refusal to answer pharmacy when clarification requested for prescription refill. Big miscommunication with one source who is no longer doing business with them. Guess I will have to reestablish with neurologist again to get my nurtec. I have the same chronic conditions I have had from the beginning and now it is a new problem.
Absolutely horrible service
Absolutely horrible service. Lack of communication. Refills are a nightmare. Constantly having to guess who has what, where, when, how.
They Charge You For Medication BEFORE The Consulation
I decided to give Cove a try to see if I could get my headache medications delivered to my home quicker and easier. I have been been taking Topamax (topiramate 100mg) for over 5 years now but ran out a few months ago due to my primary care physician moving away. This is why I decided to give Cove a try. I use Nurx instead of my local pharmacy for my birth control and I love it, so Cove seemed like a good option. Unfortunately, I was very wrong.
For one, Cove has you add your "preferred medication" to your cart BEFORE completing the consultation and they charge you for the medication BEFORE so as well. I ended up pre-paying for my topiramate that I did NOT end getting prescribed as the physician who reviewed my case decided I was not suitable for Cove's services. Despite the fact that I have been taking this medication every single day for the past 5 of my life and I just PAID for this medication BEFORE the consultation.
Also, the consultation process takes a very long time. About 48 hours in total in which the physician pretty much asked me the same questions that I had just answered on the health questionnaire. It also includes ridiculous video clips.
Overall, it's an incredibly overpriced ridiculous migraine subscription service in disguise of some premium service. It was a complete waste of my time and money. It's very unethical to charge the customer for a medication BEFORE their consultation. I ended up using Call On Doc the same day I got rejected from Cove. I took a much quicker health survey in about 10 minutes (with no absurd videos). A provider reviewed and responded to my case within 2 hours of submitting my health questionnaire. That provider prescribed me 6 months worth of topiramate to my local pharmacy which was available for pickup the same day and paid for by my insurance. Call on Doc completely made up for the disaster that was Cove.
The âCove Careâ charge is a scamâŠ
I used their service because the medication was cheaper than I was able to get. The biggest scam this company does though, is their âCove Careâ extra charge. They charge an extra $10 a month (charged quarterly when your medication shipped) so youâre charged an extra $30 along with your medication on a separate charge. This service is nothing but an extra money grab. The service includes âUnlimited messaging to your provider/regular check ins with your provider and access to a migraine tracker.â I donât need unlimited access to my provider for migraines, especially when Iâm used to and comfortable with the medication Iâm on. Iâve never had to speak to anyone other than when a prescription had to be renewed. And the migraine trackerâŠI guarantee over 90% of the users have never used it. It does exactly what a pen and paper or typing it in your notepad does. Itâs just something to throw on to make it look like youâre getting some extra perk. The âCove Careâ charge is an absolute scam and they know it. The easiest way to fix this is for it to be an optional service and we all know why thatâs not the case.
This company is trying to charge me aâŠ
This company is trying to charge me a consultation fee over a YEAR later from March 2023, citing a processing error. My account was closed May 2023! How can you all come back over a year later with no emails or contact from that time frame up until now. You scammers have lost your minds! Must be hurting for business trying to swindle past customers out of money!
Scam billing
Donât use this company.
I emailed the company about their billing schedule and they never honestly answered me about when I could expect to be charged. They do not make cancellations easy. Their app has no account information on it so you then have to go to their site and navigate it to find account information. Why not have that in the app? Because they want to make it hard for you.
I emailed them asking them to cancel because I didnât want to be charged. I had a free three months with them and just didnât use the service enough to justify paying them. I donât get migraines frequently enough. They charged me on the day that I emailed them to cancel my account but they didnât tell me, I just got the insurance bill.
They then waited another seven days to cancel my plan. They used barriers to prevent me from canceling so they could charge me another cycle.
COVE SUCKS!!!
They donât even read their reviews because they donât care. This company is so poorly managed. They used to be good but they suck now. I canât get my migraine medication anywhere else because I donât have commercial insurance through my employer. Nurtec is $2,400 for 16 pills without insurance and thereâs no generic. I tried to get through my PCP but she canât do it because she said I have to see a neurologist and the wait is 9 months to do that. So I started using Cove and they were good at first but then a year later everything started going downhill. They switch doctors constantly and they donât read their messages because theyâre always on vacation. They will bombard you with constant excuses.
There are only 8 doctors for all of the migraine patients so they are very understaffed and that causes patients to suffer. This would NEVER happen with real doctors. Iâve been without my medication for 6 days now because they didnât submit the proper paperwork and authorization on time and it caused me miss work because Iâve had a migraine for 72 hours. I depend on this medication to prevent migraines and they screwed me over royally!!! They donât care about their patients then blame them when they donât do their jobs. Iâm beyond livid. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They claim to save you moneyâŠ
They claim to save you moneyâŠ. but theyâll take it later on with little warning. Absolutely no detailed info on my account for billing. I *THINK* I pay $30/quarter for ongoing treatment, but there are never any statements or receipts or email confirmations. Add $45/quarter for the prescription. Recently, they emailed me at 7 pm on a Friday that they were going to charge me $112 the following Monday (so, less than one business day notice) for an insurance claim for âongoing cove care.â when I asked for more details, they provided a sample screenshot of the checkout process that I âmust have selected the pay later option. Sorry you forgot!â ???? They cannot provide any proof that I selected that, and they cannot provide any information on how this is different from the $30/quarter charge. Horrible customer care team. Shady practices. Iâll stick to excedrin, thanks.
Terrible company
Terrible company. Stay away!! You have to pay upfront then they make you jump through hoops to even speak with anyone (after you have already paid). In the end, the doctor did not prescribe me the medicine I need, although I still had to pay. I bet a lot of people pay up front then don't even finish their consultation. Crooks
