I signed up for a 2 week trial and attempted to find my relatives on the site but found it useless even though all my family live in the same area for over 80 years. A couple of weeks later I received an email from PayPal to say my payment had been successfully sent. I checked PayPal and ancestry had charged me £54.99 so I was surprised but presumed because id never used it i would be refunded but how much I was wrong. They have point blank refused to refund even though they can see ive never used it, I think there should be a law against this. In my opinion avoid this website unless your certain you want to be charged whether you use it or not.

DNA TEST RESULTS VERY SLOW. I bought a dna test for my husband which we sent it off last December , the site has said it was processed and the dna extracted by 8th February . We are still waiting for the results and have been told today it was actually only extracted on 19th March . That is almost 3 months , definately NOT what I signed up for .

The only thing I can critique about the experience is that I find it difficult to navigate the hundreds of features on offer. Apart from that the experience and information available is phenomenal. I would recommend Ancestry to anyone who is interested in the history of their family. I even found my Mum sailing to Colombia in the 1930's. The information available is astounding.

Thankfully, my parents told us about their parents. I already knew who they were and where they were buried. The thing that interested me was comparing my 'map' to that of my sister's. They were very similar.

Really interesting results and looking forward to exploring more, lots of family names i was unaware of and some interesting results around my DNA areas that correlated/confirmed stories always told within our family.
Only downside website was a bit slow when I first signed in to view my results but may have been a lot of people on the website at that time.

Not satisied with the results obtained. Which were just a bunch of generalised info i could have got from a internet search not worth the wait and the money.

Paid £103.99 in total on 16 January 2026 and results did not arrive until 20th March 2016. I expected better results for the price I paid b ut all I received for this was were results of DNA heritage - i.e. regions my predecessors may have been connected to. This is outrageous - I knew all this already. However, there were links to find out further information but each link was subject to a charge!! Total rip-off and I would not recommend anyone to waste their money on this scam.

My expectation was that I would receive information that was new to me and this was not the case.

Having trouble with account, no access to send messages and everytime I go get an authentication error - does anyone else know another company because after reading reviews I'm tempted to go elsewhere?

It was awful. I bought 3 month free access to theirs data but Ancestry was doing my DNA about 4 months. Is it honest?

It wasn't as good as we had hoped.
We know that my side of the family originated in Germany a couple of hundred years ago, nothing came up as Germanic for my daughter. In addition, there was a lot of reference to the Midlands, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. None of our family on mine or her dads side are from the Midlands. My maiden name has connections to Ireland and we both have some connection to Wales, but that's all. We were hoping to find stronger connections to Europe as her dads family travelled from somewhere in that region to the UK approx 150 years ago and we were hoping to pinpoint more accurately where they travelled from. My daughter was quite disappointed in the results.

Terrible company three months later they still have not refunded my £119

The results you get are very interesting BUT to find out things I really wanted to know I now have to subscribe to a monthly subscription to get access to

I used Ancestry a few years ago and now I have more time didn’t hesitate too reinstate my account as the information easily available is exceptional

Even though I had to wait what felt like a lifetime the results came back before the due date. It was fantastic to see where else my DNA came from apart from the places I already knew about .

Very interesting feedback on my DNA results with regards to my heritage. Was a little disappointed that a lot of other feedback was an additional charge

I paid for a DNA test. After a few weeks they sent me an email supposedly with the results but when I clicked on the link all I got was advertising for ancestry and ancestry dna so I have totally wasted my time and money.

I have compiled a very detailed tree on my paternal line and the info on that was as expected but even from the less detailed one of my maternal side I was disappointed that much of that was inaccurate. I know that my mother’s family are mainly from Yorkshire - going back to the 1700’s, that I have a little Cornish ancestry and there is even a Dutch name. The results showed West Midlands with no ref to those two extras.
The traits section indicated, as one example, that my inability to play by ear was inherited from my father, while, in fact he could do this and it was my mother who could not. I grew up with dogs all of which I loved and have had cats for 40 years. It is accurate that my mother was not a pet lover but stating that I inherited this aversion from her is obviously inaccurate.
On the suggested relationship front, almost all were incorrect. For example, one person was described as “half brother or nephew”, unless my father or brothers had/have secrets this is wholly inaccurate. There is no tree for him, so I cannot check our connection but, given the shared DNA %, he is most likely to be my cousin. Another relative, with large DNA match is the gg grandchild of my gg grandfather by his second wife, whereas I am descended from his first. Is a 43% connection likely in this case?
On the hints front the suggested relationships were often way off too.
Having identified so many inaccuracies, has led me to question whether even those, like the origins of my paternal side, which were what I had accepted, because I anticipated those, are accurate. I know that this line is predominantly Scottish but some of the names I have sound more English in origin.
As this test was a very well intentioned gift from my daughter, it pains me to have to be so negative about it.
