Antwerpen Banjul challenge:
Nooit meer…..
Wat een mooi avontuur moest worden is geëindigd in een grote teleurstelling.

De organisatie liet veel te wensen over. Zo had Cor de vereiste papieren om door Marokko te reizen met een humanitair gezelschap niet op orde. Sterker nog hij wist van het bestaan niet af. Hierdoor moest het gehele reisgezelschap twee dagen kamperen op de grens van Marokko.
Daarna bracht Cor leden van deze challenge in gevaar in de woestijn van Marokko. Teamleden raakte de weg kwijt en ook de ingehuurde gids wist niet waar hij was.
Naarmate de reis vorderde bleek dat Cor de Franse taal niet machtig was en zich ook slecht kon uitte inde Engelse taal. Is toch wel belangrijk als je mensen meeneemt door 7 landen.

Tijdens een briefing in Nouakchott te Mauritanië legde wij uit wat wij van hem verwachtte. Maar daar werd nauwelijks op gereageerd. Er is teveel gebeurd om hier te beschrijven.
We hebben uren moeten wachten bij politie checkpoints zonder dat er informatie werd gedeeld.

In Gambia aangekomen werden de voertuigen geveild t.b.v. verschillende goede doelen.
Ook daar bleek dat er sprake was van grote oneerlijkheid. Door optreden van een paar Challengers werd de veilingmeester gewisseld en werd het beter.

Later bleek dat er voertuigen niet verkocht waren en ver onder de prijs waren door verkocht.
Deze organisatie stelt zich voor dit te doen voor de arme en minder bedeelde mensen in Gambia,
Niets is minder waar…

Het eigen ego van Cor, voorzitter van deze challenge wordt boven alles gesteld.

Vandaag wordt er zelfs gedreigd met het sluiten van een stichting omdat de leden “ niet geluisterd” zouden hebben.
Hoe wrang wil je het hebben.

Bedenk goed voor u hier aan begint.

We have participated in this horrible challenge. You think that the organiser -doing this many times- might be well prepared ? not at all.

We got stuck for 2 days at the morrocon border. We had to camp for 2 days on the tarmac. Even worse: the man doesn't speak any word French, nor English, he couldn't keep track with the authorities, and made things worse. On top of that: he ennoyed the customs and made things more complicated.

After that, he left people behind in the desert near to Zagora, and seriously endangered members of the group.

Every time there were problems at checkpoints, he stayed in his air-conditioned car, without coming out, without informing the rest of the group.

At the end (most of the group was fed up) he blackmailed an important part of the group, refusing to hand over insurance certificates if they would refuse to follow the tour via Farafenni, in stead of the ferry at banjul (300 km shorter).

The auction is an example of clientelism: friends are favored.

I participated in the Antwerpen Banjul Challenge 2024. and I highly recommend that you do NOT participate in this challenge.

The organizer was not only unprepared which resulted in us getting stranded in on the Moroccan border for 33 hours but a complete safety hazard.

He took the group in to the Sahara without a safety briefing and if any cars got stuck in the sand, they would be left without any help or waypoints. just to make bad worse this was in the middle of a sand storm.

The very "professional" guide he had hired, could find his way around the desert, and we was lost for 3 hours. Luckily one of the other teams got us all out. with no help from the organizer...

All cars were auctioned off to charities in the Gambia on arrival. but not even this was a joyful occasion, as the auction was fixed, and the cars would suddenly be sold under the price they got at auction.

I have NO trust in the organization and hope that they will never be able to put any others in risk.
