I recently completed my land purchase with Barney Estates. I had a lot of questions regarding the costs and clauses within the contracts. Amiee answered these all and remained very patient throughout the process. I had been looking for a horse paddock and managed to secure 2 plots which are perfect for my needs! The other plot owners at the land are really friendly and we all luckily have our horses there so it’s become a very friendly horsey community! Thanks again and recommend them!

We bought a plot of land off auction. We negotiated a purchase price and agreed to the deal - Joe and Elliot were really helpful during the entire process. The reason I have only given 3 stars is there were a lot of charges hidden in the contract (e.g. Buyers Premium, contribution to sellers solicitors) plus an overage, none of which were mentioned during all discussions or included in the invoice from Barneys. Yes, it was all in the contract but it would have been really useful if Barney's could have made ALL fees and future overage costs easily visible at the start of the process. We ended up paying about 30% more than the purchase price to cover all of the fees, some of which were visible at the start and some not. This was the first time we had purchased land through this type of process so were a bit caught out by these charges. I know a solicitor could pick this up, but Barney's could have made this all more visible.

My dealings with Barney Estates particularly Patrick Quigley have been very positive. A Barney Estates for sale sign suddenly appeared on a piece of rural land overlooking my house. I was very sceptical of who Barney Estates were and expected them to be very corporate and unapproachable. The land was up for auction in 5 days time and I had no idea what that involved. I picked up the phone and it was answered by Patrick. He was very approachable and took the time to explain to me what was involved in the auction process and how to go about it. He also said that the vendors may be happy to sell pre auction. I made an offer through Patrick which the vendors accepted. Patrick then sent me the vendors legal pack which I read. Patrick called me later and asked if I had read the pack, he then asked if I had seen a couple of clauses in there which I had totally missed. Patrick then negotiated with the vendor to remove them which he did successfully. The completion deadline was very short and at one point I wasn’t sure if I could meet the timescale. Patrick contacted the vendor to see if they would extend the time limit. In the end this wasn’t necessary but, it was very reassuring that I could pick up the phone and contact Patrick when needed (he even phoned in the evening once after work had finished).
Barney Estates and Auctioneers are a very reputable company and Patrick Quigley is very helpful and an asset to them.

You have remained unresponsive to the emails I copied you in with Overage Investments. Your legal pack did not show an overage fee of 1000 pounds yearly. Others be warned before going into any contract with land owners. Check for hidden overage clause that auction houses won't disclose.

Be very careful!!!!! with Barney EstateS.
They try to mislead people and, in many cases, pressure or intimidate them.
Do not trust them and do not enter auctions using their accounts.
Exercise extreme caution when dealing with them, as many people have had serious problems.

I’ve rented before in London and always had delays or staff that didn’t dontheir job properly, having to chase people endlessly for 5-minute jobs. Barneys (particularly Whitmey and Amiee) have been stars at sorting out repairs in our rented flat in a timely manner, communicating very efficiently and being flexible.

Really great service. Aimee was professional and helpful and answered all my queries. Much better than all the other auction houses I approached and gave a good valuation ending up in a successful sale.

A quick and painless sale.

We were buying a plot with them, and during the process, they removed two names from our side of the contract to push it through. Our £16k+ deposit is still tied up, their solicitors stopped responding once our legal team got involved, and the matter is ongoing as we pursue legal action.

Do your due diligence, read other reviews, and be very careful—especially with land at Shahwell in Leicestershire.

I have spent some time liaising with Elliot to negotiate purchasing some land and have found him to be very responsive and easy to work with. He has been very helpful and professional throughout.
