Barbara is amazing!!…
The staff at Teddington pool are lovely, very helpful and happy to answer any questionss. I've only had one swimming lesson but have to say Barbara is amazing!! Makes you feel comfortable, supported and confident...she has me swimming in the 1st lesson...she is great, if like me at over 50 think it's too late...get a Barbara she's brilliant!!

Friendly, helpful, trained staff. Very enjoyable experience.
I have a swim UK membership but tried the gym and a yoga and pilates class for free at their Open Weekend.
Absolutely loved both! Will definitely consider extending my membership to include classes and gym when the days get shorter, though the regular yoga and pilates class run by that particular teacher is a little late for me (starting at 8pm) by the time I get home.
I was given a gym tour specific to what I requested and for someone who has always said they hated the gym (have had gym induction many years ago which wasn't what suited me), have been turned around.
All the staff were Amazing - super friendly and helpful.

Staff are very friendly & gave based advice that suited me best.
Although gym is small but it is clean. I think it may benefit having a couple os machines
Parking is good

Better Gym Teddington Gym and pools has…
Better Gym Teddington Gym and pools has transformed my life . I have never had Gym membership before. Instructors of the classes I attend Richard, Sam, anda and Hamid make a point of getting to know us and adapt exercises according to everyone's physical fitness. I have a medical condition which they have helped me with and everyone is friendly and welcoming. I have made many friends who I see outside of the classes so am enjoying the social element. I'd love their to be another low impact class on a Sunday as I'm still working. I highly recommend coming along to try out a class.

Teddington Pools excellent instructors
Excellent Instructors
I attend Iyengar Yoga and Body Conditioning Basics classes and both instructors, Pauline and Sam, are really good, both very helpful and patient. I would certainly recommend these classes and the Centre as all the staff are very welcoming.

I really enjoy the fitness classes with Sam and Richard. I feel I get a very good workout and importantly, a proper, instructed stretch afterwards.
It's worth being a member so that you can book early as many of the popular classes fill up quickly.

Healthwise customers using the App
Isabella (Community Sport Manager) was very helpful when I met with her after my hastily arranged, by Isabella, swim.
There had been some confusion with my Healthwise membership starting yesterday on 1st June, that I had been able to book a Pilates class last week for today (3rd June) but not a Swimming session for yesterday without it 'charging' £5.75 given Healthwise is an all-inclusive membership at several Richmond centres.
The App needs to be amended, and here's why:
When I had found a Swimming slot it showed Free, but when I increased the numeral to 1 it showed a charge. How was I to know?
Isabella explained that it was designed to show an additional swim, but would anyone want two swims, or be able to book an extra swim for their (healthier) offspring and gain entrance for two people? Surely everyone has their own membership?

From enrolling to the course and attend classes for my child, the process was smooth and efficient. Receptionist was very friendly and helpful, swim coach was professional. Very satisfied!

Concerns Regarding Progression and Decision to Withdraw from Swim School
Since Better took over the swim school, we have noticed that the progression of the children has significantly slowed. It now appears to take much longer for swimmers to move from one stage to the next, which is concerning.
Additionally, the overall structure feels increasingly commercial, with higher costs that make it less affordable for the average parent. This is particularly disappointing given the importance of swimming development for children.
As a result, we have decided that, after this term, we will be withdrawing our children from the swim school.

Thanks for your review.
We are happy to address the points you have raised for Teddington Pools and Fitness.
1. Opening times are 06:30-22;00 Mon-Thurs, 06:30-21:00 Fridays and 08:00-20:00 Sat and Sun.
2. You do not need to book, but we do recommend it so you are guaranteed a space.
3. The induction is not for 5 minutes, it is for 30mins-1 hour, depending on which session you choose and this is included if you have a monthly membership. We can see you booked an induction at Whitton Sports Centre, which is not operated by GLL/Better so we would not be able to comment on the prices for their inductions or length of the sessions.
4. We are not closed on Bank holidays, but there may be reduced hours.
5. We are sorry to hear that you have found the centre to be dirty and have passed this onto the centres management team to investigate.
6. The price you pay for membership will depend on the access you would like. We can see that with your membership your first months fee was £38.98, you then chose to upgrade to extended access and were charged the pro-rata difference between the 2 memberships (£27.63). We do not charge any admin fees for changing memberships, but you will pay a one-off set-up fee upon joining.

I booked swimming lessons for my daughter starting on 3rd April, but they have been cancelled for two consecutive weeks. I wouldn't recommend the Teddington pools swimming lesson for swimbies, i.e., 13-24 months.

Dreadful software and admin
Our health club used to be run by Richmond council. Then by Better. The switch has been a nightmare in terms of admin and app. The migration was awful. The app was upgraded and again failed. What used to be easy on the Richmond system is invariably more difficult on the better app and systems.
The staff gave different information about changing membership type. They are helpful as they were before, but clearly don’t all have the same information to hand.
I am still a gym member despite Better not because of Better.

Definitely not 'Better'....
I have two kids enrolled in the swim class at Teddington. Since Better took over, it has been an absolute mess and extremely frustrating (and time consuming) for parents.
Billing and direct debit - this had to be sorted out over multiple emails, phone calls and face to face discussions over several weeks and months . My son was booked into the wrong class, membership cancelled, reinstated, wrong membership, he then dropped off the system, put back on and the list goes on.
App and Portal - I have tried to log onto the app but not found it easy to use. If you want to track progress, you have to log on to something else (a portal) and need a new password and log in. It is not linked in any way. You can't seem to book or move classes on the app.
Service - unfortunately, the staff at reception have no idea about the swim classes. The levels and stages have changed now and I was told my son was in the wrong class this whole time. When trying to move him into the right class, they discovered that he had in fact completed the stage above already? After 45 mins of confusion, they could not book me into the next class up saying they are unsure of availability and I now need to email someone else.
This is absolutely ridiculous - please please sort it out.

Perhaps this company should consider a…
Perhaps this company should consider a name change. Both my children enrolled in the swim school - I revived an email this week saying their membership has been cancelled - the same day they took the direct debit payment for their lesson. They made a big song and dance about handing out medals and certificates for the children, but having been given a slip of paper by their swim teacher to collect said medal, there weren’t any left (none available until April) cue several disappointed and upset children. Surely basic communication skills mean the front desk could have told the swim teachers the medals had all gone? Or don’t launch a scheme when you don’t have the merch to back it up.
Just the latest in a long litany of poor service since this company took over at LBRuT.

Half term and I don't have the password…
Half term and I don't have the password for the app (wife does and she's at work).
So children couldn't swim today even though there are spaces at Teddington.
I phoned twice for help but they wouldn't let me book on the phone and I was told that the girls couldn't pay at the door.
That's lost revenue for the pool, disappointed children and frustrating waste of time for me.
If the front Reception could have helped then they didn't make that clear. In fact they said the opposite.
I believe them in that they couldn't help with the password as I don't have access to my wife's email account either, to reset a password.
Why they can no longer take a phone booking using a name and a credit card, or a booking at the door without an app, is beyond me.. They used to be able to do both of these things at Teddington Pool. They would rather have an empty pool I guess. When I phoned in the morning they had 6 free spaces between 4pm and 5pm.
(Wife went swimming tonight. Mentioned all this at the desk. Seems the central call centre people on the phone gave out completely incorrect info when they said we couldn't turn up and get in if there was space. Not very well organised by Better so the one star remains.)

Our customers can book at the Centre in situations like this, and it would be a contactless payment, i.e, by card.
We usually direct customers to book ahead of time online, so they do not travel to the Centre, and there's no availability.
We do apologise if this was not clear, and we're deeply sorry for any inconvenience and frustration this has caused.
We also cannot take payments by phone, as our phone lines are recorded.
This is a security measure designed to protect our customers and ensure that personal and payment details remain secure.

If you want to enrol in any weekly courses, nothing could be done on site at the reception. Even if you have get there to seek help in person, they'll just ask you to go back home and do it online, while their system has some bugs that forbids you to complete what you need to do.

Better? Only if you mean worse
GLL Sport Foundation aka "Better" in Teddington should win awards — not for fitness or community spirit, but for redefining the art of inconvenience. Their app is a marvel of modern technology: it crashes, freezes, and generally refuses to function, almost as if it’s designed to test your patience rather than help you book a swim.
And the staff? Inspirational, if you’re studying how not to do customer service. Problems are met with blank stares, sighs, and a “can’t do” attitude so consistent it feels rehearsed. You’d think solving issues was against company policy. The only thing "Better" here is the irony.
