Had a great shopping experience in Blacks Newport on Friday 27th jan, Ollie was very helpful and knowledgeable and made the extra effort, much appreciated 👏

Great and friendly staff, made me buy more stuff then I had planned haha. Roguishly handsome gent named Ollie has a great wealth of outdoors knowledge and directed me to the tent I wanted.

The staff were so friendly and helpful, I will recommend this store to friends and family.

Great service from Fay who went out of her way to help me purchase some walking boots. Although they had no men's in stock in my size she suggested I try women's instead as my feet aren't very wide for a man- and they fitted perfectly!

The staff at the Newport, Isle of Wight store were so helpful this morning. I was returning some faulty walking boots bought before Covid lockdown but little worn due to lockdowns and orthopaedic surgery. I had my credit card statement showing the purchase but no receipt. They spent time checking if similar boots were available and then found a suitable pair from upstairs and provided me with a chair to try them on. I am very grateful for such good customer understanding and service.

Served by Fay today. Went to the trouble to check the store to get me the size I wanted. Friendly and polite ….nothing was too much trouble. I will return.

Came in for a pair of hiking boots, was so pleased with the service and options, greeted and assisted by one of the workers very helpful, Will definitely be back again.

The size of the item was unavailable, the young lady on the checkout ordered the item I required on line and had it sent to my home address free of charge and it arrived in 3 days.

It's just a great store to walk into - stuffed full of clothing and equipment so lots of choice. Bought a pair of Scarpa walking boots with the help of a knowledgable staff member, Fay.

The staff were friendly and extremely helpful with everything I needed to buy for a forthcoming trip to Norway. They didn’t, seem to mind how many times I turned up in the shop, with yet another item to ask about. I would be happy to shop there any time.

I had to return some faulty fabric walking boots. Very helpful assisstant, Fay. She spent time making sure I got the right pair for wehat I needed. The new Merryl walking boots are excellent. Very satisfied.

We needed advice on several items we found the staff very friendly and knowledge store very clean

I found the perfect boots I was looking after looking for quite a while and have had ordered boots in the past and had to send them back for not fitting correctly and the fuss of sending them back takes up time it’s not the same as trying them on in the shop and walking in them to get the feel of the fit and weight of them and the advice and help from the friendly helpful staff 👍

If I could give more stars I absolutely would! My husband is a big fan of Blacks and I shamefully had never been in until today to buy a lightweight waterproof coat for dog walking. Sue was amazing from start to finish, so much so I ended up buying 2 coats. Matt upstairs was also amazingly helpful and found what I was looking for. Super friendly, amazing service and although hubby is already a regular customer Blacks have now gained me too! Thanks guys x

We went into Black’s, Newport, Isle of Wight yesterday. Asking where the men’s walking trousers were from the person on the till was met with a scowl and a “down there”.
As my husband tried various styles on, the changing room in eyesight of the till, not a single member of the four staff who stood around chatting offered any assistance at all.
I moved from rack to room adjusting sizes, which in itself was a challenge as I could barely reach the upper rack, there was zero acknowledgment from the staff in a pretty empty shop.
On paying £95 for two pairs and stating I was going to do an online review as the service and help was non existent, the till person (manager?) was very apologetic.
I do feel that was more to do with a poor review than anything else.
In a service industry, if service is beneath you, then maybe it’s time for a change?
