Worst Airport in England
I fly a lot and live just north of Bristol. However, I will avoid Bristol Airport as much as possible. IMHO it is the worst airport around. Which, I believe is mainly due to its remote location and its total monopoly of transport options, parking, etc. Hence, it charges a premium for all aspects of your journey. Furthermore, it has too many flights clustered up at specific times. This morning, case in point, we arrived at 5am for a 7:15 flight. It took over 90mins to get thru' bag drop and (fast track) security. The place was absolute chaos. AVOID Bristol Airport if you can.
Awful airport
Awful airport, what a shambles. We arrived at 3.30 am for our flight at 6am. Just one flight of at least 11 departing at the same time. All this expansion, but no seating available while we hung around for over 2 hours. Lots buy drinks then just sit on the seats at the different cafes until their flights are called. Then it's a long walk to a boarding gate. Coming back is even worse to get to baggage claim area. I'd advise anyone to use another airport if possible. This one is a joke!
My friend and I have to have assistedâŠ
My friend and I have to have assisted travelling. We came back from Malta and due to such disorganisation ended up struggling and having to walk from the plane right to where our taxi was picking us up. There were not enough staff to help with wheelchairs, we felt completely abandoned. It was a terrible experience.
The shambles at Bristol AirportâŠ
The shambles at Bristol Airport continues!
Plane pusher breaks down so miss our slot for Keffalonia by minutes. Now have to sit on plane for over 2 1/2 hours for new air traffic control slot.Absolute joke. ð¡
Fast track closed and sent to the back of normal queue with no refund.
Purchased fast track for security. The lane was closed and they routed us to the end of the normal queue.
When I requested a refund, I was told that when the queue is closed, they always route fast track people to the front. This is wrong, just a lie to refuse a refund for the service they failed to provide.
Ethan Bristol Airport
Ethan helped me throughout the whole process and took the anticipated stress out of the equation for which I am extremely grateful, thanks Ethan ðð
Worst Airport By A Longshot
I want to preface this by saying I know its a tall order to call this the worst airport but I'm a seasoned traveler who frequently travels for work. I've been to some bad airports and have had some bad experiences, but this by far takes the cake.
So this morning I got to the airport at 4:15 AM for a 6:15 AM flight. When you arrive at the silver zone airport parking you have to âsign inâ and give your key by dropping it in the kiosk, where they will then move your vehicle from the spot you parked at to a different spot when you come back. This is insane to me in the first place, and there were so many people there this morning, I waited 15 minutes just to drop off my key.
Then I get to the terminal by boarding the bus. There are insufficient luggage racks to hold everyoneâs luggage, and people get crammed in where there is next to no room with all the extra luggage thatâs rolling around on the floor. But fair enough, itâs a short trip to the terminal, itâs bearable but it could be better.
So I arrive at the terminal, luckily the airline I was flying there wasnât a queue but the EasyJet line had a massive queue of around 200 people waiting to check in⊠at 4:30 AM.
Then I check my bags, drop them off, and go to security, another massive queue. There is a kiosk where you can pay something like 15 quid to short cut the queue, itâs a racket if you ask me.Â
I finally get to the security checkpoint and my bag gets flagged for inspection. There are 4 workers screening bags, there are at least 20 bags that need to be screened. So Iâm waiting, 20 minutes pass and they finally get to my bag. But they didnât want to look at my bag, they wanted to look at my wallet for some reason. They take a look at my wallet because it has coins in it (less than 10 seconds) and let me leave.Â
Then I get to the terminal, I have to go through a large duty free section before getting to my gate that meanders around. The path is just big enough for 4 people to walk side by side and people are slow. Then as you exit, you pass through a restaurant section, then up the stairs, then back track the opposite direction up stairs through another restaurant section that I HAVE to go through just to get to my gate. There is a set of stairs that leads up but itâs blocked off for emergency egress, and there is a lift next to the blocked off stairs that has another massive queue.Â
It took so long that I was second to last before boarding and literally 3 minutes before gate closure, flight time 6:15 AM.
So on my return flight back I have to pick up my car from the Silver Zone parking. As stated above, you park your car and then they will move it again. I get my key and head to the parking lot to find a parking attendant relaxing in the car next to mine with the engine running. He notices me, abruptly turns the vehicle off and leaves. If that wasn't bad enough, when I got in my vehicle I all of my mirrors, steering wheel, and seat were moved!
And the cherry on top? If you just want to get dropped off and not deal with Silver Zone it will cost £8.50 JUST TO DROP SOMEONE OFF AT THE AIRPORT! Literally extortion.
Very poor
Arriving at Bristol airport today from Pisa with a queue for immigration quite literally hundreds of yards long - have not seen anything like it in any airport any where in the world in recent years.
What a shambles
What a shambles. Buses plane to terminal (if u can call it that), elderly/disabled people with walking sticks being made to go up and then down 3 flights of stairs, passing through open areas in the wind and rain. Queues out the doors waiting to go through passport gates. 1 hour from disembarking plane to exiting terminal - completely Infuriating! Someone needs sacking for this fiasco - itâs an embarrassment and what a welcome to the UK
On top of that £8.50 for up to 10 mins pick up
Daylight robbery!
Absolutely awful
Absolutely awful. Swissport staff awful. Food prices extortionate. Hope to never have to use the airport again.
You need to be very fit to take off from Bristol Airport.
The worst thing is the distance from parking to and from the actual airport building. However even once there the distance to walk to certain gates is immeasurably long. We are both in our late 70s but not disabled so not in need of assistance. The departure lounge is cramped and queues awful.
The airport lounges are very poorâŠ
The airport lounges are very poor regarding food etc .The system is very slow and the barman serving drinks the the cheaper bar was very poor and strange. No sauces poor dry rolls .One coffee machine never working .Very poor .The company that runs these need to get there act together .
Not even worthy of one star - Drop-off a complete rip-off
Not even worthy of one star.
To charge £ 8:50 to drop-off is an absolute joke. Total rip-off. Won't be flying from Bristol Airport anytime soon.

it was the most horrendous experience IâŠ
it was the most horrendous experience I have ever had arrived nearly 1 hour late the queue was out to the tarmac to go through passport control nearly 2 hours ?then nearly 1 hour to get cases .
Poor Experience as usual.
Long Queues into the car park for Silverzone bus. Massive queues for Security and then 20 min queue for a cup of tea. Staff great but airport cannot cope with number of passengers and particularly bad if your travelling early morning flights.
I travelled first time to this airportâŠ
I travelled first time to this airport and was very disappointed by the staff. Had very bad experience in security check in staff was very rude . We missed our flight two times because of careless staff.zero stars .. we wasted our money two times because of this staff .we missed our flights two time.
Absolute extortionate drop off fees
Absolute extortionate drop off fees, minimum £10.00 and for what, an overcrowded 1970s style blick of concrete with all the charm of a bucket of sardines baked in the sun for a week
Starting with drop off/pick up ,priceâŠ
Starting with drop off/pick up ,price is extortionate for time allowed, then you think you are in airport as walking through a indoor space only to be then have to cross an open space of over 50m, then you enter the actual airport itself ,this area hasn't changed since it was first built, so small and cramped . Next to no seating ,only mega tape rope barriers filing you towards checking baggage,.
Once you finally get checked in you have to go upstairs, lift,or travelator toward security, where again long tape ropes to send you to security, that is if you get through scaning boarding pass with no problem, only 1 person there to help .
Security was ok but still had to have bag searched as some items they couldnt be sure what it was ,so 10 minutes wait for bag to be looked at and then when they finished just shoved bag toward me . No politeness from any of security staff.
Walked into duty free area and finding a seat was near impossible and this was a quiet day I flew, must be hell if busy .
Sat on suitcase I had for hand luggage as even every food outlet was full or tables hadn't been cleaned, bought a coffee and was reasonably priced but food was mostly a third to half as much as on high street,
When gate was announced had to walk to the farthest point of airport, no travelators, if I was elderly would have had taken alot longer to walk .it is not flat it rises and falls gradients.
When at gat there were not enough seats for the amount of people, surely the airport should have enough seating for the largest plane to use airport at every gate, then had to walk out to plane, no buses and was a few hundred metres.
Luckily I only had 10kg luggage so never had to checkin. Just went through all the rest of the appaling sirvice and layout of this airport,
Now they are still trying to improve facilities but unless checkin area is sorted out the problems wont get any better
Shambolic and disorganised âThird Worldâ experience
This airport is even more of a shambles than before the recent âimprovementsâ which have made it even more âuser unfriendlyâ than I thought was possible than previously and highly unlikely we will be using it again any time soon.
The only positives from our recent experience were nothing to do with the airport itself i.e. the EasyJet twilight luggage drop which avoided the usual chaos of dropping checked luggage on the day of departure and the flight taking off and leaving this awful place. (Arguably one other unintended positive was getting in fair chunk of my daily 10,000 steps, but goodness help anyone with mobility issues.)
We dropped off our car at Silver Parking where staff were borderline disinterested/rude and caught the transfer bus to the new bus station, seemingly designed to cause maximum inconvenience to passengers, now that they are required to walk further to the passenger terminal than was previously the case when the bus dropped passengers immediately outside. This would have been tolerable with some of the route undercover, but the last 70 metres or so open to the elements with no covered walkway. Inevitability it was raining and windy. Whoever thought leaving this section of the walk open is in the wrong business.
Bags dropped with then trekked back from where we had come, signage to the Hotel pointing to a lift to a multi storey car park, then again open to the elements walking to the Hampton by Hilton Hotel. The next morning we discovered a quicker route from the Hotel to the terminal via a number of steps (there was also a zig zag path for those less able or unable to lug having bags up steps), signposted from the Hotel.
We had Fast Track security passes to avoid long queues where it was no quicker than the regular lines, but more shambolic with no obvious plan or system in place. The laughingly titled Fast Track line took 20 minutes to navigate. Once in to the secure area the facilities seemed overwhelmed from shops to toilets and a relief when our gate number came up, followed by a route march to gate 28 including going down a flight of stairs.
Once again EasyJet up to the mark boarding passengers very quickly and efficiently, permitting an almost on time take off after joining the queue of early morning flight departures.
Multiple points of failure at Bristol Airport where Management need to take long hard look at this mess, where my feeling is that the cop out of a planning application intended to improve matters is highly likely to increase problems at the airport rather than solving them, based on current and past performance.
