Beware owned by Sykes Holiday Cottages! In the past had some fantastic holidays and excellent service BUT now owned by Sykes. My parents paid a deposit in October 2019 for a break in a large house for a lot of us in 2020, obviously we couldn’t go due to Covid. My parents transferred it to April 2021. Now they’ve had two weeks of e-mails asking for household details, which were provided many times, we are multiple households so again we cannot go due to restrictions. Having said they will be in touch with the options available they haven’t, UNTIL it gets to the day the balance was due to be paid! After many phone calls and e-mails they are saying my parents have cancelled the holiday, because they didn’t pay the balance as we cannot go, so they are not entitled to the deposit back! I think you’ll find the government say we cannot go. DO NOT use this company awful customer service, named and shamed on the Martin Lewis show and under review with the competition and markets authority.

AVOID.
After having to cancel due to lock down #2 our £570 refund did not appear. However Coast and Country still insisted we pay another £570 for a future booking for after Christmas. Why can they not refund us for 45 days???? It's only reasonable to ask them to transfer the payment we'd already made to the new booking???
Getting through on phone is nightmare..1 hour of my life I'll never get back.
Arrogant and money grabbing.

I unfortunately used this mob to rent my holiday home. They are honestly nothing more than money grabbing thieves. The service they give is Appalling. For the huge huge commission they take which was never explained properly. Almost a year after I sold the property I am still getting bogus bills from this absolute shower. One example they arranged for a new fire extinguisher when renewing the fire certification which I can buy on eBay for £16 they charged £68 +vat.
Do yourselves a favour & DO NOT get involved. I promise you will regret it.

We stayed at the Old Malt House in South Pool and the property itself was lovely.

However, we’d received an e-mail about a fortnight before our holiday asking if we could let the sky engineer into the property one afternoon. This request turned into a full day during which we had to do nothing which was then cancelled at the last minute so we had to wait the next day as well, taking up a solid chunk of our holiday. Then some lights blew in the house and we had to wait for a electrician to come and switch the circuit back on, so that was more time we had to spend at the house.

Well, we thought that the company may be apologetic or grateful for the time we had given up from our holiday so they did not have to send an employee into the house. However, we thought wrong.

We have received an email since we got home claiming that a loo was blocked (the only evidence we have had of this is a photo of a sign on the loo telling us how to use the toilet) and about a tiny stain on the bedding where my period had come unexpectedly because I’m menopausal, literally one drop. They’re now withholding a chunk of our deposit (three figures).

I’m really upset (and feeling humiliated about the tiny stain) at this treatment. I will never use this company again as I have been renting holiday lets for years and never, ever had a single withheld deposit. We treat properties with respect and try to live by the adage leave nothing but your thanks. This has put a real blight on this years holiday and we will definitely be going back to other agencies next year.

Rented a property in Dartmouth in summer 2019. Super helpful staff, even let me use their office printer to do some personal printing :-)

Myself and several other people I know have had the most awful experience with the lack of support from Coast and country during the Corona Virus pandemic. Many of us have tried to amend our booking dates for an alternative time for various pandemic related reasons and the company has been totally unhelpful.
It is really difficult to get through to anyone attall and they are not budging so I have spent £1500 for nothing.

My mum booked a family trip to a cottage in Devon through coast and country. The cottage was lovely. About a week after returning, she got an email saying £50 was being deducted as cigarette butts were found in a bin. The £50 was to cover deep cleaning of furniture as they claimed we had been smoking inside and the cottage stank of cigarette smoke. ABSOLUTE RUBBISH!
Firstly, smoke alarms inside. Secondly, my toddler nephew was with us and there’s no way anyone would smoke around him.
Several emails and a letter have been sent with no response whatsoever and no communication before the £50 was deducted, just an email with a picture of cigarette butts and the garbage about having to deep clean the cottage. Dreadful customer service

6 Thurleston Beach House Thurleston

We stayed at this property last year and were very happy with it.
This year, however, when we got there we immediately noticed that the house was grubby, floor was sticky with various cobwebs.
The first time we used the shower in the ground floor on-suite the door fell in. Luckily no one was in it at the time - could have knocked someone out.
Maintenance man came and said the runners were worn out and said he would order a new one and hope to fit it that week.
We didn't hear anymore by the time we checked out on the Friday.
One other small thing - the house can sleep 8 but the toaster can only do 2 slices at a time. For a property of this size I would have expected at least both sides of the toaster to be in working order!

We booked 1 Top View Cottages through this Company that we have used before and were horrified when we arrived.
It was filthy dirty and NOT in good decorative order as it’s description states. Dirt everywhere, water stained and cracked kitchen/hallway ceiling, cracked and chipped paint, the kitchen floor was filthy, the windows had mould on them, the fridge was filthy, cobwebs everywhere, the microwave covered in rust to name a few things.....just grim.
I had to spend time cleaning some of it that evening as it was disgusting.
I spoke with Town and Country and they sent a cleaner the next day with wine to apologise and some conserves. She said after inspecting it that it needed a deep clean and was clearly surprised at the state of it! She cleaned some of it up for us but there was too much for one person.

I then asked for a partial refund of a couple of days proportionate value of the cost of the holiday, which they gave.

The next day one of the showers starting leaking through the kitchen ceiling when we were using it so we had to stop as the crack in the kitchen ceiling beneath it, had got progressively worse. The other shower that was available, was over the bath which was too short for my husband who is tall to use, so he couldn’t comfortably wash. I called Coast and Country who said they would send a plumber the next day. The plumber duly came and couldn’t find anything so we were told to use again, which we did carefully and then it started leaking again, so I contacted Coast and Country again.
I was then told by their property manager that they would send a plumber again the next day and that someone should have told us that the owner was having a new settee delivered the next day and they would let us know what time. We hadn’t been advised by anyone.
We decided to get up early and leave the house to go to the beach the next day so we didn’t get in the way of the sofa delivery and the plumber.
The plumber came and found the issue which meant the shower could no longer be used. The sofa had been delivered and the delivery people had just left the furniture they had moved out of the way still in the wrong places with dirt all over the floors.

The whole holiday was affected by cleaners coming, plumbers coming and constant phone calls to Coast and Country despite us trying to not let it ruin the holiday. We decided to leave to come home one day earlier as we were so fed up with it all.

I asked for further compensation because of the shower issues, and it was refused by the owner, but Coast and Country offered £50 off our next years booking.

This whole holiday has been ruined by a filthy, unfit for purpose property that shouldn’t be being rented out or advertised as it is.
I am surprised at Coast and Country advertising such a property saying it is in good decorative order which it is certainly not.
I feel like we have been used to fund a development project under false pretences by the owner. We were told by Coast and Country that the property had changed hands recently and the new owners were trying to renovate it. If you look on Right Move it changed hands November 2016!!!

Coast and Country were responsive when we complained which I am grateful for, but they didn’t manage to put it right after the cleaning incident!

Thoroughly disappointed in Coast and Country and a ruined family holiday for us!
