Scam business, keep your credit card in your pocket!

The app neither translates properly nor can it handle large files. Even with a subscription, it has far too many limitations. It’s the stupidest money I’ve ever spent in my life.

Beware: deceptive subscription!
I was using the DeepL translator and decided to pay for a subscription. The interface showed a price of around €8 per month. I clicked the payment button — turns out that was the monthly price when paying for a full year, totaling €89. Yes, it was indicated at checkout that it was an annual plan — that's on me. But the interface is designed to show you the attractive monthly price first, and then slip in the annual billing at the payment stage.
I contacted support within 5 minutes and asked for a refund. Their answer: "A refund is not possible, you agreed to the terms and conditions." Five minutes — I hadn't even done anything yet.
A textbook dark pattern. Do not recommend.

Meine Erfahrung mit DeepL war leider sehr enttäuschend. Nach mehreren Jahren wollte ich ein auf der Website angezeigtes Probeabo abschließen, um zu testen, ob der Service zu meinen Anforderungen passt. Während des Bestellprozesses wurde klar kommuniziert, dass die Zahlung erst nach 30 Tagen erfolgen würde.
Da sich schnell herausgestellt hat, dass der Service für meinen Zweck nicht geeignet ist, habe ich das Abo noch am selben Tag gekündigt. Trotzdem wurde der vollständige Betrag bereits in der Zwischenzeit von meinem Konto abgebucht.
Der Kundenservice zeigte sich in dieser Situation wenig entgegenkommend. Trotz mehrfacher Hinweise auf einen möglichen Inhaltsirrtum (§ 119 Abs. 1 Alt. 1 BGB), da ich offenbar gar nicht berechtigt war, ein Probeabo abzuschließen, sowie auf die widersprüchliche Darstellung im Kaufprozess (kostenloses Testen vs. sofortige Abbuchung), wurde konsequent darauf bestanden, dass alles rechtens sei und der Betrag einbehalten wird.
Besonders kritisch sehe ich, dass weder transparent über die tatsächlichen Zahlungsbedingungen aufgeklärt wurde noch aktiv auf mein Widerrufsrecht hingewiesen wurde. Eine kundenorientierte Lösung wurde zu keinem Zeitpunkt angeboten.
Insgesamt hat es rund 20 E-Mails gebraucht, um den Sachverhalt überhaupt zu klären. Der Eindruck entsteht, dass hier bewusst auf Zeit gespielt wird, möglicherweise auch in Bezug auf Fristen wie das Widerrufsrecht.
Für mich hinterlässt das den Eindruck, dass wirtschaftliche Interessen deutlich über der Kundenzufriedenheit stehen.

Using DeepL for French as a woman
Using DeepL specifically for translation from French in my browser and for some reason they removed a feature they had years ago that you could toggle if you were a woman and needed words to be gendered correctly in the first person. Now everything I translate is defaulted to the masculine and therefore incorrect and I have to edit it manually. I am not subscribing to their AI writer in addition to the pro account just to pay double because I happen to be a woman. What in the world of poorly thought out misogynist tech is going on here? The reason I find it unfair is that men basically get to use the tool with a second thought and I have to waste time making edits.
The browser page also logs you out extremely fast, there's no justification for this... my session expires if I look away from the tab more than a few minutes.

Mi si rinnova l'abbonamento senza che lo volessi, scrivo immediatamente al servizio clienti chiedendo cancellazione e rimborso, e mi rispondono in maniera maleducata che sono fatti miei se mi sono dimenticato. I accidentally subscribed to an annual DeepL plan ($449 CAD) for a short-term need. I contacted support immediately and requested even a partial refund (offering to pay for one month at their maximum pricepoint $100CAD), but was refused despite minimal usage.
I am disappointed there was zero flexibility or goodwill in this situation, given the subscription was a true misunderstanding of the terms & conditions. This experience makes me hesitant to use the service again. I definitely wouldn't recommend it to colleagues or friends

Edit 1: Turns out they read and ignored my emails. Once I mentioned refund, they responded saying no refunds citing some small writing. API is not a small writing issue and they have to fix but they dont.
DeepL Decline
DeepL used to be fantastic. Now it defaults to odd languages without prompt, it jumps from one language to another and isnt acurate like it was. Something happened its not great anymore.
Generic LLM translation ChatGPT style
What used to be a super precise model, probably the best in the world, has been turned into an entirely generic AI-driven one that does exactly the opposite of what the product was supposed to deliver: precise translations. If I want EM dashes all over the place, I can ask ChatGPT to do the translation. But I chose DeepL for fine tuning, to see for alternative wordings at precisely that part of the sentence. The new model, however, entirely folds if you dare to present a slightly more complex sentence, in order to sound "more natural." What is really going on here is that they trash their business model to cut costs, as seen in the current quality of translations. You can never compete with any of the big AI models. Yet you try at risk of destroying the appeal of your product, which shows that you don't understand what made you relevant in the first place.

Their Windows app is a disaster since 1 or 2 years: They basically have left their Windows app abandoned. Continuous bugs let unattended, consistent issues after each update and a horrible "Next Generation" machine translation model. Terrible Support too.

If I could give them zero I would, I signed up with them to translate one document, unfortunately I forgot to cancel, but I thought that I was ok because I was protected by the 14 day period of grace, however this sneaky company counts that period from the day you start your free trial NOT from the day they help themselves to £536.09 for the year. STAY AWAY THEY ARE NOT HONOURABLE. BUNCH OF THIEVES
