The food allergy test results were so wrong, it is frightening.
I have active anaphylaxis. I know what foods I can eat and what will require an Epipen shot. My doctor thought this would be useful to test me for food allergies. The test was totally wrong! It was so wrong, I am laughing! The company requested money before any results were offered and wrote that if I sent money, I would have âdiscounts and creditsâ and would then owe âthe balance.â No invoice was offered. No actual cost was offered. I do not want to hurt my doctorâs feelingsâŠhe takes care of my health so wonderfully. But this test from Genova diagnostics was not only completely wrong, it was a very dangerous document to send. It was scary.

Genoa Pharmacy Experience
The issue I have with Genoa is that they were not updating the national database with the medicine. I was receiving from them. Things were safe, and that's per them. They said that I only received my paying medicine from them. For the month of September and the month of January, which was not true. I received medicine from them January. November October, December and January..
The problem I have is that the manager of Genoa claims that I was incorrect and based on what he sees in the system or in black. And white that I've only received 2 refills, and as I explained to him that it's not correct. And the young lady that answers the phone knows that's not correct. Because she sends them to me every month. I became frustrated and extremely upset.I will not lie and became began to use inappropriate language because I felt he was gaslighting me by asking me, what did I want him to say. I wanted him to be honest and truthful. But he wanted to antagonize me, which only angered me more. Normally on my level-headed person and it takes a lot. It's a p*** me off. Good. But in this case, I flew off the handle, but I was able to gather my composure, but by then he tried to use that against me. And say that the young lady may not always mess up. Her name forgive me, but is related to my condition. If I don't talk to you or interact with you on a daily basis. It's hard for me to remember your name and I did apologize for that to her on a different occasion. And during this particular phone call. But he made sure to let me know that it was insulting to call her by a different name than what her name was. Please note I had transferred my prescriptions from genoa two days prior because of the incompeccy of their mail order pharmacy. The improvements that need to happen with genoa, they need to address the turnover of their pharmacies of their pharmacists, because over the last several months, I haven't been able to get my pay medicine due to this particular issue. On the strength of the young lady and less call her m.Because I just cannot remember her name. She has been so sweet and patient and understanding that I have really been staying there because of her. After this interaction with the soul called manager, I believe they need to not only address the issue of the high turnover but also address the issue of ensuring that the information prescriptions filled are answered into the national database. So that when patients are going to doctor's appointments or even to the ER or even being admitted into the hospital, that other doctors can see this information in the system. Every time I went to the e r or to an appointment.I never understood why they treated me as if I was drug seeking until this last admission.When the doctor came and informed me that none of my prescriptions were showing up in the national database, and she showed me and explained to me why. I had to have someone come to my home. Text me pictures of my prescription. So she can see that I indeed have prescription for these particular narcotics. This is when I call Genoa and spoke with M. Explained to her the whole situation. This is why I moved all my prescriptions two days ago from Genoa to another pharmacy so for the manager to tell me that they will no longer provide me services with any of my prescriptions because of how I blew up, that didn't matter to me.Because all my prescriptions had already moved. I really didn't care because I feel that they are incompetent. Note, even when I told the manager that I'm calm and I've gained my composure, and we can have a civil conversation. He still tried to use your using file language. And I no longer want to talk to you. And I wasn't using file language, and I was very mild. Humble, he still tried to use that for whoever was around him to make it seem as if I was yelling and screaming. Which I was not. He also claims that m was terrified to talk to me which she had never been scared to talk to me in the past. No matter how frustrated I was, we've never had an issue. So I think he made it more than it was. It's unfortunate that people and this particular manager likes to build falsehood. I will always tell the truth before I tell a lie on anyone because all we have is our reputation, dignity, self-respect and if you allow people to compromise that you will not prevail in your life.
Extremely Poor Service.
After registering my test kit and packaging my specimen exactly as they stated, I could not locate my test in their portal. I sent an email, it took four days for them to respond. In the meantime I called them, they could not locate my test, and when they finally did, they claimed there was no return card in the box, which is not true, I made sure it was in the box and followed their instructions to the letter. They then claimed my first named was spelled differently on the specimen, again, not true because I KNOW how to spell my name. Four days later, STILL no information in their portal system about my test. I called again and was told it would be another two weeks to get my results, delaying my treatment and necessitating me to reschedule my appointment with my doctor. NEVER AGAIN. If my doctor wants any testing to be done I will request another lab and will not use these people again. They have zero accountability for the ineptitude and simply do not care about you.
Strange results
This company was the one used by a Functional Medicine/Nutritionist group and so I went with that. However, I wish I'd read the poor reviews on here first. My results were strange, if not impossible, and did not make any sense. The nutritionist even checked it out with Genova. I suggest finding another lab. to use.
I had a disappointing experience
I had a disappointing experience with Genova Diagnostics, particularly regarding their billing practices. They charged $2,000 for a test, which, given what I received, felt excessively manipulated for THEIR benefit, hoping insurance will pay that amount. Just doesn't feel honest. The billing department was disorganized, making it difficult to get clear answers or resolutions. For a company in the healthcare space, I expected far more transparency and efficiency. Unfortunately, my experience left me feeling frustrated and taken advantage of. I would strongly advise others to be extremely cautious and ensure they fully understand the costs before proceeding.

Misleading Tests, Rude Customer Srvc, Useless Results
I am super aggravated that I didn't read up on this company before I ordered a $400 useless test. I thought I had used them in the past but I mixed them up with a competent company (TrioSmart). I thought I was ordering a Methylation Panel which is what they tout on their website. Instead, I ordered a Methylation Genomics test that is basically gibberish. The customer support is non-existent. Both the live chat and the toll-free number employ rude condescending a-holes as "customer service" representatives. Had I read the reviews on this website, I definitely would not have used these jerks.

Billing nightmare
This test was useful and suggested by my provider. I liked the results. Where it went wrong is the billing. I paid $400+ for the test but had the option to pay a wee bit less up front if I would turn it over to my insurance for processing. My insurance declined it and now Genova is coming after me for $2600. They ask for an Explanation of Benefits - which I provide. They say it is not sufficient and I start getting overdue notices. I am in a back and forth between my physician, insurance, and Genova that is eating up my time! I WILL NEVER EVER USE OR RECOMMEND AGAIN.

WOW!!! Same EXACT scenerio as people before me - quoted $450 cash price for the NutraEval test. Paid $179 out of pocket they billed my insurance $2000! They were PAID $414 by my insurance so they have collected $593 and are telling me that they are going to bill me for what the insurance states are my out of pocket responsibility! So if they billed my insurance which I pay ALOT of money in premiums then they are going to screw me and MILK me for more money???? The agent I spoke to at Genova also threatened collections and then hung up on me!! Will NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN. DISGUSTING SCAMMERS. I will also be haunting them via and social media and report them to the attorney general for Fraudulent insurance practices etc. Apparently they were sued before. This needs to happen again!

Horrible company that refuses to work with your insurance and will harass you to make payments that your insurance will cover. I have tried to contact them and they say that they cannot contact my insurance? My insurance never received a claim from them and still hasnât. This is fraud. I believe they sent it to some other blue cross blue shield, but not to my insurance provider despite correctly communicating to them who it is directly
Genova is Inept
Every time I take a test from Genova there are absurd problems caused by their total incompetence or stupidity. Twice I did their methylation panel and twice they failed to process part of the test because they lost what I sent to them. Now Iâm about to do another one of their tests and I canât enter my insurance information because my doctor checked a particular box on one of their forms. Whether Genova takes my insurance should have nothing to do with my doctorâs practices. In fact up until now they took my insurance and now are making up an idiotic reason for not taking it again. Iâm instructing my doctor never to order a lab from them again.
Fraudulent billing practices.
There really should be a no star option. This company has clearly fraudulent billing practices. Genova did to me what they apparently did to countless other customers: they railroad you into paying an upfront cash payment directly to them, even though you're providing your insurance information for billing; then they bill your insurance 4 times the amount you have been quoted (I was quoted $445 for a GI effects comprehensive profile test; paid $179 up front, and just received another bill from them for $279-- in addition to billing my insurance $1845 for the same test-- which they are now billing me, since they are apparently out of network). You can't quote a customer a set amount for a service, then tell them their insurance may cover a portion of that amount (if they also pay up front, which NO legit company asks you to do, btw, but you don't question these things when you have stool samples that must be sent out THAT DAY, and you're obviously not well or wouldn't be doing this in the first place)-- then BILL their insurance an amount FOUR TIMES the originally quoted amount, AND THEN go back and make the customer pay the rest of the originally quoted amount plus whatever their insurance company then bills them for the fraud they have perpetrated on them. This can't possibly be legal...oh yeah, it's not, which is why Genova just paid $43 Million dollars in a class action lawsuit in 2020 for overbilling medicare/medicaid for unnecessary tests. Clearly they have not changed their practices and are preying on people who are unwell, quoting them one price and then billing them and their insurance, creating a huge hassle and expense. This sort of rampant greed and complete lack of ethical or moral standards is rotting our country. Anyone associated with this company should be ashamed. You would think Genova would be embarrassed to keep having various "business managers" respond on this site to the exact same complaint about fraudulent billing-- over and over, year after year-- with the same canned lines and hollow "apologies," all the while actually blaming the customer and taking no responsibility for their CLEARLY fraudulent practices-- and continuing them, cheating more sick people just so they can pay their already wealthy executives and shareholders even more money. Nice work. Hope you're proud of yourselves.
Such a scam
Such a scam. I have phone calls and records stating I only had to pay $300 out of pocket yet was charged over $1,000. I am refusing to pay since I see they scam many patients and they keep threatening collections. I have all records and donât care about collections as it doesnât hurt me but itâs more the fact they are hurting others. So sad. So many better companies and go elsewhere !
Left with more questions than answers
Update 25th October 2024 I actually managed to get some of my money back from genova diagnostics. Only £180 out of the £490. The rest they kept for the allergies element of the test which essentially told me I have hayfever which I have known since I was 6.
For a month I went strict carnivore and my symptoms dramatically improved. Within two days my energy levels were amazing. I'm about to begin the cabeivore diet again. Plants do nothing but harm me!
So, I have paid £490 for a food intolerance test which has left me feeling overwhelmed and with yet more questions than answers. I am trying to call genova diagnostics to explain that I feel like I have been mugged off but the calls keep kicking me out after being on hold for 4 or 5 minutes with a message saying they are having a technical problem and to try calling later.
Items showed up on my food intolerance tests which I have not been eating. I had the opportunity to speak with someone from genova diagnostics and to ask them how come items have showed up which I had 100% not eaten. I was advised that this is because of cross reactivity and that I need to go away and work out what cross reacts with the items which have showed up on my test. I do not feel that this is good enough. Genova diagnostics you have taken £490 of my money to then come back to me and tell me to work out what is actually causing me the issues. I still don't know everything that I am intolerant too and this list could just keep growing and growing. I would like to feedback to you that you should know what cross reacts with what and then be able to advise your customers, accordingly. Yesterday I ate something which clearly has not shown up but cross reacts with something. I could not sleep all night. I have had to phone in sick to my job on a suicide crisis line as a mental health nurse because I can't help people on no sleep and with as much flatulence (sorry if that is TMI) as I currently have. This has become so bad I have now vomited three times as well. I needed some help as this is affecting every area of my life. I dont want to keep being off sick from work. My team and patients need me, after all and I want to be at work. I need to speak with someone please. Also I just need some sleep and don't want to resort to an antidepressant with sedative effects to actually be able to sleep. I have had problems with sleep for years probably because I have had hayfever since I was 6 and I have no idea when the food intolerances started but they have probably been an issue for a long time too.

I ordered an allergy testing kit. Their listing was very misleading and the test results bogus.
I've had allergy\sensitivity testing (blood drawn since it's more accurate) done at my Allergy Doctors office (an MD well known in the field). I wanted to save time and money for some up to date retesting, so I ordered testing done by Genova.
Genova's blood drawn test results even showed me not be allergic\sensitivity to food items I've had anaphylaxis or hives from and allergic\sensitive to foods I have no problem with. When I contacted them (including a manager), they insisted the results were accurate and refused to refund me since they said they ran the tests results in their lab. Running erroneous tests does not qualify for payment in my world.

This company is not here to do lab tests for patients but here to use patients to milk their insurance. Never stated anywhere in their documents that they will charge the insurance a hefty sum. And when asked for an explanation for their invoice over call the customer care lady hung up, emails from them either threatened me that if not paid on time they will increase the charge or that literally said - give the money. No explanation for their invoices even when asked about 20 times. Only these above 2 messages were sent in email responses regardless of what I asked.
Terrible billing practices
Their billing practices should be reevaluated. Theyâre more concerned about getting a maximum from you, your insurance, then additional bills for you as well. They specifically do not go in networks with insurance so they can bill you as much as possible. When customer service says 80% of customers call in with the same concern - maybe the concern should be evaluated in how you can do better. I will not use them again, I will not recommend them to anyone, and I will specifically tell my healthcare provider and any provider who uses them about my poor experience.
Deceptive Rip Off!
I wish would have listened to the review before doing this test. Was the test helpful, I suppose but not worth what I am paying now. Before I did the test I called the company to get an understanding of how I would be billed and was assured it would be a reasonable amount. Now I owe $1800, for this! Total BS, there needs to be more transparency about how they work with insurance. Please do yourself a favor if you are reading this and do not use this company!
