I’ve held my investment with Guinness Ventures for nearly five years now, and it has been a deeply frustrating experience. My portfolio has currently lost about 25% of its value, and I see very little being done to turn the ship around. From an insider's perspective, the investment strategy feels incredibly unimaginative; they seem to rely on "regurgitating" the same few major investments, occasionally selling off small parts of them just to fund exits rather than showing genuine growth across the board.
​My biggest concern is the lack of modern vision. They appear heavily over-leveraged in traditional retail-type activities, which feels completely out of touch in an age where e-commerce and digital-first businesses are the ones driving real value. Because of this stagnant approach, I actually reached out to see if I could sell my holding and walk away with my current losses just to salvage what’s left. I was told this isn't possible.
​Now, I’m left with the very real fear that I’ll be stuck with these shares until they are worth nothing at all. They aren't proactive, the portfolio is stuck in the past, and the lack of liquidity is a trap for anyone who realizes too late that the management strategy isn't working. If you are looking for a dynamic EIS/VCT provider, I’d strongly suggest looking elsewhere.
