Insurance, they couldn't even give me a quote
As an AARP member I get junk mail from the Hartford all the time. We'll I finally made the call to get a quote. Person on phone was nice. I am 67 and have not had an accident in 40 years, retired Leo. I have 3 vehicles, an suv, small pickup and a F350 through all state. FIRST, they would not insure my 350. SECONDLY, I asked for a detailed quote so I could compare with my all state. All they gave me was a bottom line figure. Nothing showing coverage amounts. FINALLY, they were a lot higher and no coverage on my 350. I'm not going to switch.

Don't need a loaner car in Texas. You will be stranded
I have had car insurance since 1990. I have never had trouble renting cars or getting a loaner from a dealership until I started using The Hartford Auto insurance. The dealership in Texas said that underwriter is on the DO NOT LOAN A CAR list because they do not pay when a vehicle is damaged. Now I am without my car or a loaner. When I called customer service they said "Go somewhere else". This is ridiculous and completely uncalled for. I am so disgusted.

I had The Hartford from 11/23/2022 and cancelled on 04/16/2025. My premiums were deducted monthly. On 8/14/2025 I received a letter from a collection agency saying I owed Hartford $226.40. I never received any communication from Hartford. I went on to their web site and could no longer access my policy when it was effective. I called and they said there were days I owed from my last deduction as it is taken out retro but I couldn't verify this. I have to rely on what they email me. I think it's very dishonest they take off my previous policy on line and don't even contact you or send you an explanation of what they want to collect and just send you to a collection agency. Beware of The Hartford. Can't believe AARP represents them.

Understanding the importance of honesty and transparency in insurance matters, I want to ensure that all information related to this claim is accurate and truthful.
I appreciate the efforts made by Mrs. Forster in processing my claim and reversing it to no fault.
However, Progressive has not seen it that way. I am currently awaiting a response from Michael Rodriguez regarding the outcome of his review.
I feel it is my responsibility to disclose this information to prevent any potential issues related to the integrity of the claim.

Try not to get into an accident with anyone who uses Hartford. They are a run around, with adjustors that NEVER call back or return emails.
6 weeks in and I haven't been paid. Their automated system says they sent checks, they didn't. If you call in, they just send you to the adjustors voicemail, who never calls back.

Recently switched to Hartford through AARP, have had continuos coverage for over 40 years. We had to send in medical coverage info for health insurance, which we did three times as the kept saying they never got it. Afte the third time i sent them the document, i never heard back and stupidly assumed they received it. We just called to check on renewal amount and they told us they csncerled our insurance 4 months ago!! Never told us they cancelled our policy, now we have to pay enourmous amounts to get coverage as they totally screwed us. It will take years to recoup the damage they did. We have never had an accident. Will never do business with them or get insurance through AARP again.
Worst professional call
My call with Hartford had to be the worst professional call Iâve had in years. I was looking for Professional Liability Insurance and after the rep obtained all my info, they said they think they had a company for me and would transfer me and give them all my information so far. I thought that odd but said ok. They passed me to Derick who asked how he could help me. Appears he didnât have any of my information but my name and began asking me the same questions, when I asked what information was shared from my previous call he said only basic. I was annoyed since I had been asked very detailed information that I would now have to repeat. In the middle of one of the questions he said we donât have anything for you and then hung up on me. I called back to complain to someone higher up only to be passed again and then received a recording to try online again or leave my information. I will never call this company again. Too many others that can assist me. I have an excellent insurance record.
Purchasing theu AARP BEWARW
Initially when I went thru AARP and purchased my Hartford policy everything appear great--good rates and simple switch.
HOWEVER, following an accident in my driveway where I hit a shrub and needed to have a bumper replaced my premiums went from 173 per month for my 2 vehicles to 357 per month this is after 3o years driving without so much as a parking ticket. Essentially, the Hartford penalized me for this and wad going to get their money back with considerable interest with the rate increase. Needless to say, I immediately contacted my local Progressive agent who got me the exact same coverage at 115 per month. Nobody that I have spoken with has EVER heard of an insurance company pulling this type of nonsense. It feels as though they are taking advantage of people who signed up via AARP. to add insult to injury they have also charged me a fee for switching to another company.

Customer service from getting a tow to communicating with an adjuster is awful. The only thing that they do in a timely manner is take your monthly premium.
A -10 is most appropriate
I gave one star because i had to. -10 is appropriate. Ripping off seniors with aarp is my belief. I was hit while sitting still. They paid off the driver who hit me without even contacting my witnesses. My damages were never covered and now i have a higher premium. That's what changed my mind about writing a review. 100% the worst auto insurance companyâŠ
100% the worst auto insurance company I've used in over 40 years. They paid a claim that wasn't my fault which I could have easily proved. This was after making a legal, recorded statement about the accident. They paid it without telling me, don't show it on my account so I would know they paid it, doubled my rates for a $1500 claim, said it would be off in 3 years, then at 3 years said they changed it to 5. Almost impossible to get in contact with anyone. Phone hours are wrong and hold times are over 30 minutes which usually result in being put on hold again. Literally every single person gives a different answer. Stay away. They lure you in with a low initial rate. After that it will be the worst mistake of your life.
The Hartford is ripping people off
The Hartford is ripping people off. AARP should be ashamed to endorse them. I'd been with them for YEARS with ZERO claims EVER. Went to check my rates recently, and out of the blue they had more than doubled (both auto & home.) Plus they didn't send me any notice of the change in rates. I switched to Progressive & am now paying less than half for the *exact* same coverage. After being robbed by the Hartford, I've made it my mission to let every senior I know about this terrible company.

One star rating is a âthanks for nothing â. So Iâve had progressive insurance for a couple years, and I thought that since this insurance was advertised via AARP mailer with a special code to get senior pricing. So I had them give me a quote with the same coverage that I currently have with Progressive. The great discount was $300+ more than my monthly payments with my current policy. No thanks. Where are all of these so called real discount rates advertised on mass media? I hope AARP is aware of how they are not being helpful.

Had an auto policy with the Hartford through AARP when time came to renew my policy they doubled my premium even though I'd had no claims have had no issues have had no tickets. When I contacted the company they agreed that there was nothing that I had done for my rate to increase they were increasing rates simply because they had to pay claims for other things that had nothing to do with me or my car.

An attorney clearly showed Hartford this was incorrect. Hartford never returns phone calls, despite them claiming that they rare required to within 48 hours. Hartford refused to return my attorneyâs calls. I was forced to file suit. Hartford immediately settled. After paying less than 20% of the claim (my attorney taking 30+%), they discontinued payment. They never return phone calls. A second suit is bring filed.

Even though I was a victim of a hit and run.
And 5 months later after the date of the accident the so-called criminal who did a hit and run on me and my car and produced a fake witness being her friend, The Hartford even though finding her at fault,
paid out her claim against me. And reported a point against my DMV license regarding the accident.
Throughout this experience, the Hartford never notified me that they paid out. I find out 5 months later after the date of the payout, when they notify me of the to hike up my annual premium. And they tell me they did not hike up my premium because of the accident.
They also have falsified so much information regarding the accident. And had to correct themselves a number of times to cover their liability against me.
I am reporting them to the California State Board of Insurance. This type of insurance fraud, where your own insurance defrauds you needs to stop.
