Everything was fairly straightforward apart from the fact that the delivery was incomplete and has resulted in several visits to The showroom for it to be rectified

We mainly use the Guildford branch ( slyfield . ) Lou , Scott , bill and the rest of the team are always helpful and always go the extra mile to make things happen .

If there is a cockup they will correct it straight away and nobody can legislate for outside forces and we demand so much from others before taking a good look at ourselves.

I've updated my review in light of the fact that Howdens have tried to resolve the issues in that they sent out an 'independent' inspector to look at the floor. It is clear we are never going to fully get to the bottom of the 'melting floor' as, unfortunately, the inspector did not come out when the damaged floor had been lifted, and the areas where the back of the boards had started to melt were evident. The inspector is intent on blaming our the installer and we are stuck in the middle. TBH I am tired of the entire thing so will learn to love the rug we now use to shield the floor from the sun. I would like to note that from looking online it is clear to me and our installer that we are not the only people to have had an issue with this type of flooring in a very sunny room. So it was definitely not the right choice for this room. ORIGINAL Review - Howdens (Guildford) - Flooring that Melts! We had an extension whch was completed almost a year ago and as part of this work we had a new dining/family room with bi fold doors out to our garden at the back and a door through to a utility room at the front. We wanted flooring that would work throughout the space (family/dining room and the connected utility room) and were recommended to look at Oake & Gray Luxury Rigid Vinyl Flooring from Howdens. James & Lou at the Guildford store were very helpful in providing advice and confirmed that the UV rating of this flooring would be suitable for this room which is south facing at the back, with bi folds (as already mentioned). The flooring went down perfectly (fitted by the carpenters used by our builders in April 24), and it looked great. Last summer however during one of the only really warm days of that year I came in from the garden and noticed that two of the Vinly planks had lifted where they joined. I wondered if this was down to the heat from the sun, and sure enough when things cooled down that evening they went back down flat. To cut a long story short they then lifted again over the coming weeks and remained raised so I mentioned this to our builder. We then took photos of the issue and our builder spoke to Howdens and (James the manager @Guildford) came out to look at the issue and then arranged for an independent assessor to come and take a look (btw we are now into December 2024). Their report said they wanted to have the expansion gaps checked as they felt it was the fitting and not the heat that had caused the issue. Our builder knew this was not the case, as the correct expansion gaps had been left but they sent (at their own cost) their carpenters to take off the skirting and lift the problem area of flooring. What they found was shocking as the planks that had lifted had melted together, the expansion gaps they exposed were, as well all know they would be, all correct. The carpenter was not happy that it was his fitting being questioned and he sent several photos of the damaged (melted planks), alongside evidence of the correct expansion gaps to rule out this as not having been the issue to Howdens to share with the assessor. This was on 30th January. Since this time we have been stuck in limbo with no skirting or flooring in front of the bi fold doors and Howdens not wanting to admit that the flooring is not correct for this room as it is never going to cope UV-wise. They have been slow and unwilling to respond, as it has become clear this flooring is not fit for purpose in a room which has direct sunlight. We have not wanted to fall out with our builders, who have been super throughout our project but we needed to get this resolved. We know, as does our carpenter/builder that the same outcome will result if this type of flooring is laid again. That said, we need a room that is functioning and we have had to go with getting the missing part of the floor in front of the bi folds doors relaid, and to hopefully overcome the melting floor issue we the weather is now warming up again, we have had to lay down a rug in front of the bi folds. This is NOT the look we wanted for our new room BUT we really have no choice. This floor is not fit for purpose and should not be sold by Howdens as being UV resistant. In all honesty, they should be taking responsibility for this issue and providing compensation for the fact this flooring is not fit for the job intended or replacing it with flooring that is. Looking on their website today it STILL says of this flooring "Made from a mixture of stone and vinyl, the rigid qualities of this product make it suitable for rooms with lots of sunlight, such as conservatories. With its waterproof construction, it can be used in washrooms and laundry areas."

I can’t praise them enough especially when you normally get indifference and downright bloody mindedness whenever you want help in the merchant’s elsewhere.
