Inferior merchandise
Inferior merchandise, I suspect seconds. If you want to make a return, it will cost you $8 dollars...even tho it should be less. CROOKS!!!

They won’t honor their return policy for online sneakers that were to big and I just wanted to return them to get a full refund for these because they were too big so I deleted my account now. Online it doesn’t say anything about having to return them in a box now. The Customer Service Representative I spoke to was a complete liar to now. I will never recommend JCPenney to anyone ever again now.
They steal your money
We had a gift to return that cost $24, but since we did not get a gift receipt, they gave us only $10.23. They don't care about anything but GREED. We will never shop there again, and i will have the last laugh when they close all their stores and go bankrupt. By the way, the store was empty, and you could not find help at all. JCPenney uses Synchrony Bank the biggest rip off credit card company out there. They charge fees on fees on fees. Last month I paid my account in full on time and I receive my April bill with a $2 fee charge which no one can explain except to say it’s for interest. Interest on a zero balance!!! The fees and charges on this account were more in 3 months than I charged!!! I hope Penney’s realizes how many customers they are losing because of synchrony bank and their rip off unwarranted charges!!!
JCP Loses Two More Customers
We've been a JCP customer for 40 years. This month, they charged us $1.99 for a paper billing statement. I don't want to do everything online. I don't want my info online. But JCP apparently, doesn't care about it's customers. It's the last straw...we are done. And will not return to shopping at JCP.

Drove an hour to JCPenny in Evansville IN, on good Friday. 4/3/2026. We'll worth today. To my nephew to get a suit for prom. The lady wasn't there that normally is on duty. So we had an assistant named Jerri to help us. Very kind and loving soul, sweet lady. Well worth the almost an hour drive to get there. Very awesome day. Give a 10 for this lady and place for helping us today.

I have never missed a payment or had a late payment. However JCPenney constantly moved my limits up and down depending on how my balance was on other lines of credit. While none of those are ever late either. This messes with my score and gives the impression I'm not honoring my payments or being late when companies do this. I just closed it out because it's not worth the drama. I'll just shop at my other stores.
I had to wait 1 Month for 2 mattresses…
I had to wait 1 Month for 2 mattresses to just get as solution to wait for more time because the delivery company lost them. I didn’t buy those mattresses to that company, I bought it to JC PENNY but they never assumed they responsibility as store. COSTUMER SERVICE WAS AUFULL just transferring the call one and another time.

I had a very disappointing experience with this store. I purchased a piece of clothing that looked fine initially. However, after I hand-rinsed it once with water (before putting it on my baby), the color faded badly and large white streaks appeared on the fabric. This clearly suggests a problem with the dye quality.
When I contacted the store, they refused to accept a return because the item had been rinsed. However, there was no way for me to know the item was defective without rinsing it first. I did not use any detergent or bleach—only a simple hand rinse.
It seems unreasonable to deny a return for a defect that only becomes visible after basic rinsing. Unfortunately, this experience makes me question both the product quality and the store’s return policy.
It does carry decent quality clothes.
I like this store more than I did 20 years ago. They’ve got sales running all the time and I can afford some of it. Unfortunately it took a plethora of competitors to make them see that overpriced merchandise is untenable. The biggest gripe I have is that hours keep changing. I understand there is less traffic but closing earlier cuts off people who work later. This has led me to have to buy online, which then I do not see as many sales and the experience is gone. I can buy anywhere online, it’s the physical experience I enjoy.
My husband really likes the clothes as well and he’s the type to wear khakis for 50 years straight. So this is a positive for me.
Experience is mixed, so I’m taking two stars.

I had the greatest experience at JCPenney in Wolfchase, Memphis, TN. I was dealing with a very challenging situation, but Sandra k, the store manager, and Sandra K, the assistant manager in the jewelry department, went above and beyond the call of duty to help me. Their patience, kindness, and dedication truly made all the difference. I’m so grateful for their outstanding service and compassion!
Customer service is rude
JcPenney makes u call to allocate payments to non promotional balance. If u dont call they will not apply money to interest bearing charges so that u can pay interest. So although I made the purchase and it shows shipped they will not allocate the payment because their system is slow and basically told me to pay again. You have to watch them closely. I did buy a few items as promotional and have to pay off before closing the account but I plan to close the acct. They are not worth the aggrevation and syncrony bank customer service is rude and not helpful

In store experience has always been great. Buying a mattress through them has been a nightmare. They contacted delivery through The Hub which is a HORRIBLE company and wasted 2 days of my life. After never even laying eyes on the mattress JC Penney wouldn't refund my money until after the delivery company returned the mattress. Not happy because they are so horrible and I'll be lucky if they even return it.

The worst was the way they treated me the manager like I was not worth anything as a human being! No body believed me I just left there ! No wonder the company is awful with no future for employees! My advice you are better off working at Walmart! They carry the same product

I returned two orders, one partial the other complete. I was reimbursed for the partial order only. I spoke with Customer Service and was told I would receive the reimbursement for the complete order. In which I never received. I will not order from JC Penney again.
