The flexibility of the schedule, variety of course offerings and lack of teenage bullies are key positive factors for our student to reenroll each year!
An area that has been consistently in need of improvement is communication from the teachers to the learning coaches. A weekly/monthly high level snapshot of what is up next or tips to help the learning coach reinforce the curriculum at home would be great!
Without the option to have traditional "classroom conferences" there's very little formal opportunities to speak with teachers about our daughters progress. Unfortunately, not all teachers reach out after the onset of the year. I've taken advantage of the options provided: (1) Requested "notifications," so when our student gets an email, I receive a cc on it; (2) Read the K-12 platform notifications and (3) Email teachers as needed for clarity on coursework, grades, expectations etc.
A formal report card with grades at the end of each quarter to print out for our records would be nice too!

I love this online school it's the best thing I could have done for my children

This has been the best school my kids have ever been in. They actually get the help they need

The flexibility it offers. Being able to learn from home and set a schedule that works best for our family.
The structured curriculum. It was well-organized and easy to follow, which helped keep everything on track. The combination of live classes and independent work created a good balance.

The adjective that comes to mind with our K12 experience is RESPONSIVE. We feel we were given timely responses most of the time. This especially relates to the teachers who were prompt and available to help our daughter throughout her high school experience. Thank you!

My child is very comfortable with Vava. All of the teachers here are friendly and our experience has been nothing but positive.

For the most part when reaching out over any questions or concerns the teachers will reply back quick and in a timey manner.

Easy enrollment process, caring and attentive staff. The teachers are highly engaged, and extra help is always available.

We are loving online school. While my son is not excelling in math, it is not due for a lack of programs. Simply not sure what else I can do at this point.

My daughter was struggling in public school because the teachers had no time to give her the help she needed. Her grades were suffering severely. Switching to VAVA w opened up a whole new way of learning that allowed her to not only participate more, but to get the extra help she needed, all with smiling faces from the teachers. I would highly recommend this school to anyone who feels their children need a fresh start with people who care.

The platform is horrible. Not enough negative words to express how clunky, and outdated, NOT intuitive, confusing, and detrimental to learning. The teachers are great. They are not the problem. The support for the platform and the technology behind it is made for a computer geek. And no one seems to get or care how hard the software is to navigate. Buttons and tabs that don’t work, glitchy, etc. We are leaving the school because of this reason. A tragedy really. What a horrible decision administration made to adopt the platform.

Some of the teachers like in Spanish, And other teachers take long periods to respond back to a student's emails !

Overall a good choice if your child doesn't need any additional support. K12 lacks specialized asynchronous lessons for students with disabilities. They can't accommodate students needing The Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP). I was told my child will not be able to continue with k12 because he can't take the SOL when he starts 3rd grade.

Teachers are great, the system is easy to use, it is flexible and independable.

Confusing dashboard unae to go back to missed work

Main thing was that you listened, at the first of the year the change over to the new system was rolled out with very little notice. It was horrible but you seemed to listen when we said we wanted the old system back because it was more kid friendly and easier to use. Plus not so harsh on the eyes since our kids are online for so many hours a day. The computer requirements for the online classes were not clear, one site said 2 core processors, one said 4 cores were needed and teachers needed 8 core processor computers just for this Engaugli system which hasn't worked any better then the old system. It also meant my kids could no longer use their tablets to connect. I ended up having to buy 2 laptops for them to use for school. This new layout that came from what we said is much better now, I understand new things come up and we must be flexible and thats ok. Our teachers have been great and very helpful throughout the year and thats one key thing that keeps us coming back instead of going over to full home schooling. The interaction of my kids with others kids and adults online in school, I think helps them be a little more excited for school and stay more social. More school outings would be nice and even field trips to local or somewhat local places like museums, parks with park rangers guiding the classes or even history class field trips to Williamsburg or Jamestown, maybe even Washington Dc? I know these field trips may cost us parents alittle bit of money and or time but I think may be worth it. It might help kids to see these places are real, as their teacher tells them about it. Maybe even have a live feed for the kids in the class who couldn't make it so they could still be apart of the class, and get to see their teacher and other kids in their class as they learn. Recently I received an email about our art teacher wanting to do a field trip to a local art museum and I think that's a great idea! Maybe have a math teacher take them for a Nasa field trip, ELA teacher take them on a collage field trip or Science teacher goto a science museum. I think if parents had a month long notice of an up coming field trip they could make it. Many places have reduced fees for large groups or field trips for students. I didn't do many field trips when I was a kid but I do remember most of them to this day 50 years later! Something different about going as part of a group and with other kids and your teacher! I understand its always a work in progress. I also do like that the kids can post pictures and info of things are doing in class or their interests, to canvas or teachers weekly newfeed. One thing I have not liked is when school would ask that they post to instagram or other social sites that are really not good places for them to be. I look forward to sharing more ideas and seeing what others come up with to keep making things better with school.
