My experience with KDP Pros started of great ended bad
My experience with KDP Pros started off promising but ended in complete frustration.
In the beginning, communication was great — they called regularly, asked questions, and gave me progress updates. Around week three, they began pressuring me to use their marketing services and buy a website package. When I declined, their enthusiasm disappeared, and so did their effort.
The first revision of my book came back with serious formatting issues — the page numbers and table of contents were a mess. I politely pointed them out, but the second version looked almost identical. I even clarified my revision requests through ChatGPT to eliminate any possible language barrier, yet the same mistakes kept returning.
I ended up making the corrections myself and told them not to undo my work. From there, communication slowed to a crawl. Weeks passed with repeated approvals for the same unchanged file and no actual progress toward publishing.
When I finally pressed for a timeline to order author copies, I was told I’d get a call later that day with details. The call never came. Days passed, and when I followed up, they claimed I’d “misunderstood” and that they were still fixing internal upload issues. Then came vague excuses about AI involvement — even though AI editing is common and fully acceptable in publishing.
After yet another missed call and empty promises, I requested a refund. Strangely, within five minutes of that message, they finally called — apologizing, begging for more time, and promising to make things right. I stood firm. They agreed the refund would be processed by the 27th, but as of now, it has not been completed.
I am now disputing the charges through my bank. My advice: do not trust KDP Pros Publishers. Once you decline their upsells, communication stops, progress stalls, and accountability disappears.
