I’ve owned a kindle since 2022, and while I enjoyed having an e-reader, it was one of the clunkiest products I’d ever used. It lagged even before the battery health diminished, the controls were not user friendly, and the screen formatting was crudely limited. I’m pleased to say the Kobo is nothing like the kindle in those aspects. It’s sleek, the screen formatting has so many options, you don’t have to tap the screen and guess what menu you opened, and adding books is so easy. Not to mention, Kobo promotes their e-readers as repairable which is so refreshing. To pay this much money, the transparency is wonderful that the company wants you to keep the product and keep it functioning at 100% for a lifetime. This is a stellar product and worth every penny.

Parts are not as replaceable as they claim.

El producto es excelente. Intuitivo. Fácil de usar. Comprare uno para mi. Este era un regalo.

The size is small but ideal if you travel a lot with a tiny backpack like me!

Mooi formaat en heel licht. Leest geweldig in de felle zon, maar ook in het pikkedonker zonder iemand in de kamer te storen. Heerlijk! Ik blijf maar lezen op deze ereader!

good product

Kindle is better with the library apps but I’m just trying to get away from Amazon. It’s pretty good. Getting books from adobe digital editions is pretty much impossible.

J'adore mon nouveau Kobo.

Wanting to read more and wondering if a reader would help, I borrowed one for a while and was sold immediately. The Clara is light and very power efficient, so it's easy to hold (unlike a lot of books, sorry fanatics) and very long-lasting on a charge. I didn't really know if the colour would be worth it, but the price differential is so small I thought I'd give it a try. Tbh I can't place much value on the feature as I'm only reading text, but it doesn't detract from the experience and it's not a flaw so I have no regrets. Unlike a printed book, it's a boon to be able to choose a font, size, spacing and justification options to tailor the text to my preferences and eyeballs. The ability to add notes, bookmarks, and check word definitions easily without leaving the page are great utilities that enhance the reading experience and the knowledge gained. By default, the reader displays one's progress, both within the chapter and in the book overall. Ironically(?) I most appreciated the ability to turn this off. I was always constantly checking it like a clock. This is something else you can't do with a printed book -- it's in your hand and you can see exactly how far along you are. I prefer not to know! Call me weird but thanks to Kobo I have the choice. The fully-adjustable backlight means I can read in bed without a room light disturbing my partner, and the option to use an onscreen swipe gesture to adjust intensity couldn't be more convenient. It's readily held in the bedside articulated holder that I bought for my phone, enabling hands-free viewing. Bonus: I can fall asleep without it hitting me in the face (like my tablet - quite the shock BTW) and it will just go to sleep too. I'm appreciative that Rakuten Kobo have made some effort towards making the device user repairable although I haven't delved into the details. For a friend, I once opened up an older off-warranty unit and got it going again just by exercising the few connections (battery and memory card) that aren't soldered. I've already read more books than I have in decades, which is the main thing. This includes some free classics in science, math and history that I downloaded from Project Gutenberg and transferred to the reader using my PC. Although there is a beta web browser on the Kobo, one of the things I like most is that I DON'T have the distractions of constant notifications, social media, YouTube etc. under my fingertips and I can just "stay in the book." Finally, it was important to me not to buy an Amazon product and I'm grateful that this option existed. I'll leave it at that.
