I want to give you a 0, but thatâs not possible, so I give you a 1.
Booked an ItIsOn spa deal for 2 at the Inchyra Hotel. A 55 minute treatment each for 2 people for £99. Both of us picked a full body massage. One got a full body massage and the other got back, neck, shoulders and backs of legs.
Complained to ItIsOn who offered a 10% off code, not good enough. Escalated to a manager who offer £10 gift voucher, no thanks - wonât be using company again.
ItIsOn have said the hotel wonât issue refund as the issue wasnât raised with the spa at the time of the treatment⊠We didnât know how different the massages were until we discussed our experience afterwards.
Contacted Macdonald hotels, no reply.
Rubbish experience and even worse customer care. Save your money and go to the Blythswood instead.
The MacDonald Portal Hotel and GolfâŠ
The MacDonald Portal Hotel and Golf Tarporley is fantastic! The staff are so so helpful nothing is too much trouble and everything was spot on! Thank you to everyone there for a truly fabulous hotel experience. Keep doing what you do so well
Iâve just booked for four of us to goâŠ
Iâve just booked for four of us to go to the Windsor Macdonalds hotel in October and the reason I am writing is to compliment two of your lovely staff who took the booking for me yesterday. Their names were Jack and Jen. I had to ring several times due to booking for two different couples and they were both so polite and helpful. You should be very proud of your staff and Iâd be grateful if you would pass on my thanks to them both.
My husband and I have a 2 night stayâŠ
My husband and I have a 2 night stay last month at the Macdonald hotel in Bath. We have been several times before but not for a few years now. We were not disappointed. Their attention to detail was outstanding. Everyone was very professional, caring and welcoming. They could not do enough to make our stay pleasurable and it met all our previous expectations. From the front desk staff, spa staff, chamber staff and restaurant staff. Everyone played their role extremely well and we were well looked after. I am so pleased we have booked to return next weekend. I am confident all our needs will be catered for and we will have another memorable experience. Well done to everyone. These are very challenging times for the hospitality industry but Macdonald Hotels appear to be coping very well and professionally in the current climate. Warmest congratulations to you.
Fantastic staff
Was here for a special spa weekend with 20 others, the staff were amazing especially Farid, who was running around sorting out everything and Andrew and Matthew who sorted out some amazing things out for us. The spa staff were fantastic also, the new manager was awesome she and the fantastic tattoo man (can't remember their names, sorry) were so helpful even though they were short staffed. The lady that did my facial was amazing.
Stayed here for 3 nights
Stayed here for 3 nights starting on a Friday
Wedding in progress that night ok not a problem or so we thought
Booked a table for an evening meal was what I can only describe as a rip off to be polite minimal amount of food which was overpriced and took two hours for three courses and we had to chase them for food and drinks I would not recommend it at all
As for the wedding weâll just loved being kept awake by music till gone 1am
Then thereâs another wedding on the Saturday evening again gone 1.30am with music then fighting heard followed by the bride drunk and lost her husband at 4am shouting in corridors
As for the rooms clean and tidy but needs a total revamp. bathroom again tired looking and just worn out
I most certainly would not stay here again nearly £500 for three nights bed and breakfast again breakfast was at best what you can get in any local cafe not at all up to standard donât waste your money is my advice
Stressful and very expensive 1 night away.
1 night stay McDonald Hotel Aberfoyle. 2 adults superior room. Room in the attic clostaphobic basic room, got moved to larger basic room. Not for unfit due to numerous stairs. Not cheap to, now looking at web page not far off 5 day stay in flats so totally ripped off. Menu poor choice quality of food poor. Staff amazing obviously short staffed . Massage ok but pricey paid as experienced Only to be shouted at by hotel staff at checkout in front of guest bill hadn't been paid.Wont be backð¡
Stayed at frimley hall
Stayed at frimley hall, booked for 3 nights but left after 2, this is not a 4 star hotel, 2 at best!
Stayed at Crutherland House Hotel onâŠ
Stayed at Crutherland House Hotel on 20th May. Booked an overnight spa night for my friend's 70th birthday. Room a disgrace for a supposed 4star Hotel. Large water stain on wall over radiator, splash marks on wall next to bed, wallpaper peeling off in bedroom. In bathroom, cracked sink, plaster on ceiling burst, toilet flush loose, rust on bath and accessories. Evening meal service poor, brought main meal out just when we got starters, sent back and when returned was warm (obviously had just sat under heat lamp)but not hot unable to finish meal as had got cold!!
Unable to offer room change, voucher for afternoon tea given! Have contacted customer service at head office, no response.
had a double room with 2 beds and bothâŠ
had a double room with 2 beds and both mattresses were severely dipped in the centre do you rolled together so a room for 4 people had 2 off everything towels cups etc not for 4 people. Had breakfast awful coffee it y have been in the flask for hours and was luke warm the toasting machine to make your own toast took that long we had 1 side not toasted. so order a latte and was charged £4.20 for it. went to the spa the steam room out of order but with no sign detailing that. booked afternoon tea for 2pm it came at 2.35pm the milk for the tea came at 2.55pm and it just went worse from them on our sandwiches were crusty, scones burnt and covered in icing sugar to cover it up. we ordered chips to come as well which we sent back as they were stone cold another half hour later the last one portion of afternoon tea eventually came out. the manager was called and she said the sandwiches were fresh even though she felt them.
Spoilt a lovely spa weekend
Spoilt a lovely spa weekend, the hotel was cold , breakfast was average , the spa was very disappointing, nobody explained the procedure, the steam room and cold room were out of order, so only the sauna was working but not enough room for all our party, afternoon tea was a disgrace and not fit for human consumption, cold fries, stale bread, burnt scones, cold tea, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.
Left early
Room was tiny and not clean. Freezing cold too and had to resolve heating with manager who was helpful. The full English breakfast was really mediocre. We decided to feed to dogs on three morning's and had some cereal. Actually left a day early even though we paid for four nights as there was no point in prolonging the unpleasantness for a bad breakfast.
Golf weekend, 22-24th May,2022
Hotel and Golf Courses were both in excellent condition and Staff and cleanliness friendly and obliging. The only downfall was the cost of sandwiches and Bar Prices. It was cheaper to eat and drink in Town
Lovely staff
Myself, husband and two children had a two night stay at the Portal Hotel and spa Tarporley for a wedding. Whilst there were problems with our hotel room door and an incident with a lock on a bathroom door; I could not fault the staff who did there upmost to make our stay a pleasurable one. Lauren, a very friendly member of the bar staff attended to us brilliantly the night before the wedding & Virag sorted another room out for us. Whilst the hotel itself requires some investment the staff made this stay a lovely one. I would recommend.
Had this day booked for a while
Had this day booked for a while, and was really looking forward to a relaxing day with a friend. Arrived, and got given a questionnaire to fill out. Got given our bath robes, slippers & towel and were quickly shown where everything was. Decided to have a coffee before the relaxation began....had to ask where we could get the coffee! , got told it was in the Sports Bar. A young lad , bless his heart , was doing most of the work, and eventually took our order. Was shocked that the coffee was not free, everywhere i have had spa days previously...things like this were always included...anyway....we went and got ready for the pool....what a disappointment...NO JACUZZI, what spa has no jacuzzi ð€....spent a little time in the pool...then went to get ready for our booked back massage. Myself saw a nice young lady named Aysun (i think) my friend had a polish or russian ( she thinks) lady. My lady was lovely and massage was ok...not the best i have had..but ok. I thought it strange as other spa days i have been on , they go through what lotions & potions they have used so you know if you want to purchase some. But no, nothing was mentioned. My friend, however said her lady didn't speak two words to her the whole half hour !
Had to buy another coffee as we had time to kill before our booked cream team . Asked a lady for something , and she said ' ohhh, has he not brought that over, he is new'....obviously talking about the poor young chap who we first saw...i did reply ' to be fair, he does seem to be the only one, serving the few customers that were in there as well as clearing tables etc' ... i disliked the way she tried to put the blame on the 'new boy' for lack of things getting done...shame on her!
Then the cream tea arrived...well, where do i start....did not get a choice of fillings ( admittedly we were asked if there were any allergies)...did not get asked if we wanted fruit or plain scones...etc
It all arrived, and was not too badly presented...but....the sandwiches were not fresh ...bread was dry , fillings were egg, tuna, ham & tomatoe and cheese & onion sandwich spread. The scones were fruit one's ( neither my friend nor I like fruit one's) so asked if they had plain scones. Got told when we booked we should of asked for plain scones ! Weird we didn't get a choice. The scones were dry & tiny..glad we didn't want them. The 3 cakes, a miniature chocolate cake, mini cream slice and some little bakewell cake ( looked like a mr kipling one just cut in half)....were all dry.
We were really looking forward to our day and to be perfectly honest , it was not worth the money . And to top it all my friend needed a receipt and what a palaver that was....the 4 young persons on reception really were not bothered and their customer skills really do need addressing.
Very dissapointed and we will not return nor will we recommend anyone to this place. In actual fact , if any of my friends , family or even patients at work mention spa days i will tell them to avoid here at all costs....ð
On the first of April my Daughter andâŠ
On the first of April my Daughter and myself visited the Macdonalds Spa at Tarporley Cheshire
We arrived at 10am. We booked in and went to get change to go into the pool for a swim before our treatment
We went to the changing rooms upon entering I noticed that it look very untidy
and not very clean when I approached the bin it was totally full to capacity
I unlocked the locker to find old tissues and loads of paper inside. I moved to another and that was no better
We had our swim then went for our full body massage which was excellent
After the massage we had a rest then went to have our afternoon tea
It look ok when it arrived
Upon eating it we found the the bread was hard obviously the afternoon tea had been made hours before. It was awful
We went to the gym after then we went to get showered
When we got to the showers none of the showers had locks on them
Upon returning to the lockers we got changed then went to dry our hair
None of the hair dryers were working
What we thought was going to be a nice relaxing day turned into a disaster
It seems to me that this place needs a good kick up the backside
We will no be calling at this Macdonals in future
We have been to many of your other spas but this place is really awful

poor lunch service Bowness Old England
Dear Sir/Madam,
My husband and I recently attended the 0ld England hotel for lunch. We were looking forward to this having been there previously and had enjoyed the experience. We were particularly looking forward to it now that the COVID restrictions have been eased.
We chose our table which was unoccupied but had dirty crockery on the table from the previous customers. We ordered our food at the bar and explained that the table would need cleaning before the food arrived. Our food arrived with out the table being cleared and cleaned. The waiter placed our food down on a nearby table and returned with a cloth and proceeded to clean our table. He then returned with our bottle of wine, he informed us that he could not find a wine cooler but not to worry as it was cold as he had just taken in from the fridge. We really did expect a wine cooler. Following lunch we ordered an Irish coffee, the waiter brought the Irish coffee to our table, the cream (cheap canned cream and not double cream) was running down the glass which dripped onto the table, there was no saucer, no spoon, no biscuit and for cost of £12 for each coffee made this even worse.
Please take this as constructive criticism, your staff clearly need updating on the basic presentation of food and drink particularly in a hotel of this standard. We were very disappointed with the whole experienced and sadly don't feel like we want to return back there.
Yours sincerely
Graham and Margaret Clark

We stayed for 3 nights on a full board basis from Sunday 27th Feb. Sunday was a hopeless experience from the room (superior Deluxe) having several faults including the room safe locking our possessions in due to a fault, which turned out to be a flat battery! Lighting failure, no coffee pods and 2 milks with no teas. All eventually dealt with by the very helpful staff. Dinner was a disaster. Roast beef was so chewy several diners left theirs. Service was sporadic to say the least. Breakfast for the next 2 mornings was a joke.
Waited a long time to be seated, no butter on first day, cooking butter served 2nd day. Cooked breakfast looked as if it had been thrown onto the plate in a pile, not presented. It appeared that they were running short of just about everything. Had to repeatedly ask for what should have been laid out for the buffet.
3rd nights dinner and breakfast was vast improvement. Service in particular, (due to Victoria who single handedly seemed to manage when let down by a no show member of staff for breakfast).
We have stayed at Macdonalds previously at other locations particularly Southampton and our previous experience was the reason we chose this hotel. It was so disappointing particularly as we have written to Macdonalds to give them a chance to comment and they have never replied.
Finally we find our credit card is still showing as pending the pre-authorisation that we provided on out first night despite our extras bill being paid on departure. The place appeared to be running on a shoestring and short of basic supplies, housekeeping and maintenance.
We had no real critism of the staff who very loyally tried to deal with every problem that arose. The restaurant staff however on the first 2 days seemed to be running on empty and the service was very slow.
Worst hotel and spa - do not attend if not white
Do not book or attend!!
If you have an issue, the hotel does not care! The staff palm off the guests and do not care about customer service. This hotel is the opposite of hospitality.
We got married and booked this hotel for our mini-moon for a few nights. We booked the flexible rate deluxe double room garden view, as we wanted it to be special so paid more and wanted the flexibility just in case we wanted to extend or shorten. The problems started as soon as we booked. I wanted to book a surprise massage at the spa, but the email address on the website doesnât work and you donât get any response from. I didnât think much of it, and thought we would book on arrival. Once we got to the hotel, we checked in and went to the room. We could hear other people in the next room whilst we were in the corridors so not much for privacy. The room was a normal size and not deluxe by any measure. I am not sure if the hotel is used to ethnic minorities of colour, as most guests were treated better and were of white origin - that being the only difference. Coffee stains on the tv table stand, broken reading lights, mould on windows, didnât feel clean, and shower head could not be used singularly, given the 5 star rating we didnât expect! We were not happy with the service or room as l called the reception and it was like speaking to robots. That same evening we went out for dinner and decided that we did not want to stay any longer. I called the reception number numerous times for the hotel but it just rang out, again not what l expect for a 5 star rated hotel and spa. We went back to the hotel and explained to Howard (the person at the hotel reception desk) that we were not happy and wanted to check out the next day. He refused to listen and kept repeating that he has to check the booking terms and conditions. He was very rude to the point that he was almost bullying. He kept on interrupting me to make his point and didnât want to listen. Although other guests didnât have that problem with him. Having checked the confirmation we were emailed over, it does not mention anything about an additional night being charged if you want to vary a booking. It was a flexible rate and could be cancelled up until 2pm on the same day. I assumed that any special terms would be made clear and highlighted but Howard kept palming us off on terms and conditions that we hadnât seen. I read for a living, and even l assumed that anything stringent would need to be made clear to us in the email confirmation. In any case, I explained that we were giving them notice and that we would be leaving the next morning and they had amble time to put it back on for another guest, especially as our booking allowed us to cancel up until 2pm that same day. By the same logic, I was thinking if we give them notice a night before we can revise the booking. Howard then said to me he would talk to a manager and get back to us between 7.30am-8.00 the next morning. As you can imagine waking up ready for the call was not ideal on a mini moon and the whole night was dreadful as we had no certainty, and we couldnât even book another hotel. As true hotel fashion, Howard didnât call or even get back to us the next morning. We woke up and packed, and approached the reception desk at 8 am, and Howard was on duty again. He started being rude again, and l had to ask to speak to someone else. They again said they had to check with people with authority and would charge us for two nights even though we had only spent one night - in accordance with terms and conditions that were not on our email confirmation and were not made visibly clear to us. To add injury to insult the first night that we stayed cost us £270 and the second night that we were not going to stay in cost £360, and we were checking out at 8.30am! So they had charged us the same rate as for a no show. No where did they ask what was wrong or try and see what they could do to make us feel comfortable. It was purely money for them, and they were not even asking us about our stay. However every other guest (who were white), were asked.
Then we spoke to two more people who said they were going to speak to a manager and get back to us. It has been a week and l have not even received an apology for the rude behaviour of this hotel.
We have stayed in 5 star places but this definitely is not one and certainly holds prejudices.
The fee taken has still not been corrected on my credit card bill to reflect 2 days instead of 4, even if we only stayed for 1 awful night that needs to be forgotten. I was so upset by the hotel and how we were being treated that l was tossing and turning and just wanted to leave. Having gone to the hotel from London, it was too far and too late to leave at 9pm. We paid the penalty of an additional night of £360 for having been spoken to rudely and like robots given the same response. We later continued our holiday in a chain hotel which was amazing service.
