I would highly recommend this particular MBE Cambridge. If you purchase at auction and are looking for a shipper in this area, MBE Cambridge has earned my trust. Avoid like the plague!
Absolutely dire experience. I’ve used Mailboxes in the past and they’ve been fine but avoid the Chelmsford one like the plague. Not only did they package two pieces of rare, fragile Edward Bawden wallpaper completely incompetently – taping it to a piece of a cardboard that was too small, which meant that by the time Parcelforce delivered it, there was a whole corner torn off and a fold where previously there had been none. That was upsetting enough (and has cost me a fortune to rectify) but they’ve ignored every single email, including the one with pictures attached, they’ve ignored the email from the head office, and on the two occasions when I’ve FINALLY managed to speak to Sandra, the so-called ‘manager’ I first of all was told it wasn’t their fault, and latterly she yelled at me and put the phone down on me. They DO NOT deserve anyone’s business.

I would rather trust a carrier pigeon…
I would rather trust a carrier pigeon than this shop. The proprietor convinced me to send parcel by FedEx to US.
Despite me telling her exactly what was in it, including chocolate, she did none of the necessary paperwork (including sending prior notice of food to customs) and worse still lied about what was inside. This means my parcel has been stuck in purgatory for 3 weeks with no sign of it ever being delivered to recipient. She was aggressive and shockingly unprofessional when I asked her to help me, sent me a refund so told me she’d washed her hands of me and that I should “deal with it” myself. She sniped “take your damn money” and hasn’t once taken accountability or done the minutest professional thing and apologised. This place shouldn’t be in business. Total incompetency, negligence and hostility.

Very rude and arrogant individual, asked to pay £5.0 to post a letter with FedEx which was already prepaid and not providing any additional service but claiming they are an authorized FedEx drop off point- the shop across the street will post it for free.

Thank you for your feedback. We would like to clarify our store's policy regarding prepaid drop-offs to ensure there is no misunderstanding.
While we are an authorised location, our specific branch operates as an independent franchise and has maintained a standard handling fee of £5 for third-party prepaid drop-offs for over 16 years. This policy is clearly signposted in our shop to ensure transparency before any transaction takes place.
When your partner first visited, our team clearly explained this policy and politely advised that if you did not wish to pay the handling fee, you could contact FedEx directly to arrange a complimentary home or business collection.
While we understand that unexpected fees can be frustrating, we have a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding aggressive behaviour, swearing, and abusive language directed towards our staff. Our team treated your partner with courtesy and offered a free alternative, and we expect our staff to be treated with the same basic respect in return.
We wish you all the best with your future shipping arrangements.

Customer Service Needs Significant Improvement
They are quite expensive if you rely on them to pack and ship an item. To be fair, they are upfront about this.
When I used them to send a pair of boots from the UK to the US, I was quoted £140 via UPS. I dropped the parcel off on a Friday at around 1pm and was advised that I had missed UPS's midday collection. As it was a bank holiday weekend, the parcel would not be collected until Tuesday. However, when I checked the tracking several days later, it was still showing as "awaiting collection".
I called the Colchester store and explained the situation. I was asked to hold, but the call was transferred to another colleague without any introduction, so I had to explain everything again. The second member of staff then told me that nobody had informed him the parcel required collection, but he had located it now and would ensure it went out that day. Thankfully, once dispatched, the parcel was delivered quickly.
Although I was disappointed with that experience, I decided to give them another chance and returned the following week to ship a second pair of boots. This package was slightly smaller and lighter than the first one but was again being shipped to the US. Unfortunately, I was met by a rather unfriendly member of staff who appeared disinterested that I wanted to send the parcel. After taking the destination ZIP code and checking his computer, he quoted £278 for the shipment. When I pointed out that I had paid only £140 for a similar shipment the previous week, he simply shrugged and was unable to offer an explanation that made any sense. The whole vibe and interaction was off-putting and left me with little confidence in continuing the conversation, askng for an alternative quote with a different carrier.
Based on my own personal experience, I would not use them again. Others may have had better experience, but I found the customer service poor and unwelcoming.

We have thoroughly investigated both incidents with our team:
Regarding the first shipment: You are entirely correct. While the parcel was safely held over the bank holiday weekend as discussed, it was unfortunately missed on the Tuesday dispatch due to an isolated human error on our part. We are glad it arrived swiftly once dispatched, but we deeply regret that you had to call us to prompt this action.
Regarding your second visit: We have checked our systems and found that the £278 quote was the result of a temporary technical software error on the shipping platform at that exact time. We completely understand your frustration when questioning this price difference. We are incredibly sorry that our staff member’s response and presentation felt unwelcoming and disinterested; this was absolutely not our intention, but we take your comments regarding the store's "vibe" very seriously.
Steve, our store manager, has discussed your review directly with the entire team to ensure that internal communication is sharper and that technical anomalies are properly handled and explained in the future rather than dismissed.
