We’ve used various companies for punting on the Cam over the years. This was by far the best experience- all staff were friendly but our guide Max was great. He knew lots about the places we saw on the trip and gave us a few laughs on the way. Even demonstrated a smattering of Mandarin for a Chinese visitor. Very personable and highly likeable.
Rutherford give a more personalised service - hunt them out amongst the many other sales teams who will approach you!

Our punting experience was amazing. Luckily we had the weather but that was just the cherry on the top tbh. We had Max as our Punter/chauffeur and he was amazing. He was funny and very knowledgeable about all the collages we saw on our experience. He was able to answer everyone's questions and actually found out some hilarious facts that I never knew (Our King turns out to be not so great at academics lol). Highly recommended and the best priced out of all the company's we looked at. THANKS MAX FOR A GREAT EXPERIENCE.

This was an absolutely terrible and unacceptable experience.

We arrived just 5 minutes late and were immediately told that the boat had already left, with no effort made to help or offer any solution. For a service like this, such inflexibility is already disappointing, but what followed was far worse.

We were then forced to wait for approximately 3 hours with no proper communication, no assistance, and no consideration for our situation. We were a group of six people, including a child with autism, for whom this long and stressful wait was extremely difficult and upsetting.

To make matters worse, we had already paid £120, yet we were then asked to pay an additional £40 in cash, which had never been clearly communicated in advance. This felt completely unprofessional and unfair.

The entire experience showed a complete lack of organization, empathy, and basic customer care. We felt ignored, disrespected, and taken advantage of.

I would strongly advise others to avoid this service

Ignore the negative view made by the idiot in a previous review... there are always doomsayers who will never be happy and always want to complain about the slightest thing.. we had John as as our driver and he was fantastic .. experienced knowledgeable about the landmarks but also the historical significance, fun facts and a great communicator.. Through his skills brought everybody together as a group on boat. We noticed a lot of the other drivers were a little quiet and their passengers not as enthused.John was amazing! 10/10

Reservamos una barca compartida para nuestra familia de cuatro. Todo estuvo muy bien organizado. La embarcación estaba bien preparada, con mantas para el frío, paraguas y flores. El personal del embarcadero fue muy amable y servicial. Nuestro guía hizo un gran trabajo con anécdotas y datos históricos. Muy recomendable.

Went to Cambridge with my wife for my birthday, met Harvey by the bridge and was offered a good price (we thought at the time) we had a meal booked at 1 so booked a punt ride for 3… however when we tried to pay, the card machine would not work, we tried at least 5 or 6 times with 3 cards, but it was broken. Harvey called the dock and explained what was happening and to book us in for 3pm. We offered to walk down to the dock and pay, but we were told, “ you don’t need to do that now, pay at 3 when you arrive” so we left. We went to the bank and got cash just in case the machine at the dock did not work either. We then had a lovely meal at the ivy and returned in good time for our punt, we got in the queue, and were asked if we had paid, we said no and explained what happened and tried to pay then. But we were told by a very rude woman that because we had not paid our place was not available, “ how do we know if you would show up!” She then said Harvey was wrong to not send you down to pay “I told him to” but we were there when Harvey spoke to her, so I believe she lied to cover her mistake. It was made out that we were at fault, yet all we did was follow their instructions.
My wife was devastated, she had been looking forward to the trip for months. We had to stand there trying to argue our point with a host of spectators being made to feel as if we were in the wrong, when we had simply done as we were told. She was rude, condescending and clearly did not care.
Fortunately for us we met a lovely guy from Cambridge Punters who offered us a ride after a short wait at a much cheaper price. So my advice to anyone going to Cambridge and wanting a punt ride, would be avoid Rutherfords and seek out Cambridge Punters who saved the day for us, Dan our “driver” was superb…

Had a lovely time on our punting tour with Andy. He was informative, friendly, knowledgeable and funny. Would definitely recommend!

Had a wonderful punting experience today. Really friendly staff, very welcoming especially as we had a 15 month old baby with us. Very accommodating. The tour was fantastic and the punter / oarsmen was Adam and he was fantastic. Very knowledgeable about all the sites along the way but also told his stories with a little humour. He made sure the whole boat knew each other with introductions which really facilitated a friendly experience between everyone. A good crack was had. Thank you Adam and thank you Rutherford. Will defo recommend.

Had a wonderful afternoon in Cambridge and our highlight was our punt with chauffeur Adam.
He was knowledgeable, funny, and a really lovely guy.

Lovely afternoon punting on river Cam, Max our host was very knowledgeable about the colleges etc, was a very busy day but Max made us very comfortable with his boating skills.

John, was the Captain and engine of our voyage. Very informative, interesting definitely knew his stuff!. A brilliant afternoon in the March sunshine, if in Cambridge it's a must.

Great punting experience! Without a doubt the best Champagne tours. A friendly team and superb customer service. I'll be back!

This is my second ride with this company, but on this occasion Adam, the punter was spot on. Great vibe and even let my wife do the punting for a while. 5 stars. Perfect for first time tourists

Excellent company, very reasonable prices, a great experience overall. Kieran was the best punter we could ask for; he was very knowledgeable and fun. The punt was clean and we enjoyed the ride on it. There was space for ten people, but our group was only six. We took the tour from Magdalene bridge. Highly recommend you do this activity on a sunny day in Cambridge with this company. I know if I am to go punting on the River Cam again I wont hesitate to use Rutherfords Punting Company.
