The people who I spoke to explained in a way that was easy to understand.
A dishonest and disgraceful company who do not have a clue about customer service and don't care. Avoid them like the plague, ideally they'll got bankrupt soon.
Knowledgable, helpful and friendly staff throughout the process of exercising pension, involving several calls over the last few weeks (today's with Ross Laird - thorough and concise throughout the ininteraction).
I had a small pot pension with SW from a previous employer. Now reaching retirement age, after discussions with SW at the end of January, I opted to take out the full amount. No funds were initially transferred. I then had to call back in late March and funds were finally transferred shortly after that discussion.
My wife's mum took out a policy in 2021. Passed in 2025 and they refused to pay out, they claim my mother-in-law used careless misrepresentation in filling out the form. Problem is she did declare all she knew about, including mental health issues. They were happy to issue a policy and then when payout time came, refused. My mother-in-law took that policy out in good faith and they have refused to pay. Taken to ombudsman as of today (complaint we made was no upleld). Will never use this company and will inform all others I know not to either. Another issues, they rang my wife, then as she wasn't my mother-in-law, would speak about the complaint 🤣🤣.
Both the members of the team were very thorough and explained everything regarding my pension withdrawal
My issue was sorted easily speaking to a real person
Effective communication from the team also quite understanding regarding how I approach certain issues with I.T

Friendly, well explained information. I was able to do what I wanted today which was to start the process to access my pension funds. The phone calls take a while but this is understandable due to the legalities and some people not having a good understanding of the process and implications. Both gentlemen who dealt with me today were understanding, patients and friendly - apologies I have forgotten the names.
I contacted Scottish Widows regarding my pension plan. The person I spoke with, Matthew Boyce, in the Customer Engagement Team, couldn't have been more helpful.
Everything was explained clearly and concisely, and I was advised of all of my options.
I would highly recommend Scottish Widows.

Spoke to David who was very reassuring that this was an internal issue and that my account was safe. He suggested some extra security information that I could add, and we did this together. He was very calm, kind and reassuring. Thank you David!
I had an issue with a SW retirement workplace pension and it was caused by themselves to be honest.
But this was easily escalated with them internally.
The issue was dealt with by their complaints department and I would like to give a special mention to Anna Kitzberg, a complaints manager.
Anna dealt with my complaint more than reasonably and I felt like she went above and beyond to not only rectify the issue but to actually satisfy myself as a consumer.
I feel this level of service and commitment is quite rare nowadays and this is why I felt obliged to review here.

Had to take Lump Sum on the phone the gentleman was very helpful, very informative, patient, professional and kind while we were going back and forth on the phone for an hour sorting out all the details to a successful conclusion. Thanks for the help.
