We purchased a car from this dealershipâŠ
We purchased a car from this dealership on Saturday. Unfortunately, later the same day the engine management light came on and the car went into limp mode, making it clear there was a serious issue.
We contacted the dealership, who collected the car from us on Monday to investigate. They had the car overnight and returned it to us on Tuesday. While the car was with them, the dealership replaced the coil packs and spark plugs.
However, communication from the dealership during this time was extremely poor. We were told they would try to bring the car back on Monday evening, so we asked for updates as I needed the car for work on Tuesday. Our messages were ignored leaving us not knowing whether I would have the car back for work the next day, and we had to call them ourselves just to get any update. The following day our messages were again ignored and our calls were declined. When we called from my partnerâs phone instead, the call was answered immediately, which was very frustrating.
During this time we were also misled about the work being carried out. At one point the dealership told us the car was being kept overnight for testing. When we questioned this further, we were told the camshaft position sensor was being replaced, which later turned out not to be true.
The situation became worse when on the same day the car was returned to us, the engine management light came back on again.
Following this, the dealership told us to take the car to our local garage to have it checked. Our local garage plugged the car into their diagnostic system and found a very long list of faults showing on the system, advising that the car was in a very poor mechanical condition. They were very clear that we should return the car immediately, as in their opinion it was only going to be ongoing trouble.
Our local garage also identified several physical issues in the engine bay including:
⢠Multiple bolts missing from pipework
⢠Hoses not properly clipped into place
⢠The airbag warning light coming on when the seat is moved
In addition, we had previously been told by the dealership that the timing belt had been replaced, however our local garage advised that this does not appear to be the case and that the belt is actually stretched. This is a serious concern and would also invalidate the warranty, as the warranty company requires timing belts to be replaced within the correct interval.
In the end, the dealership did refund us for the car, however this is the bare minimum required under consumer law given the condition of the vehicle. They refused to reimburse any of the additional costs we incurred as a result of the situation.
Overall this has been a very stressful and disappointing experience. When purchasing a vehicle from a dealership you expect honesty, proper checks and reasonable communication when issues arise. Unfortunately that has not been our experience here.
