This is my second time booking with this host. The first stay was fine, I trusted them for this 1.5-month stay. Big mistake.
Remember travelers, when you see shining reviews, you have to remember that’s probably because nothing went wrong.
What really brings businesses to the test is when something DOES go wrong, and how they handle that situation.

First off, this was supposed to be a "smoke-free" place, but it reeked of cigarettes. They tell me to go out and buy a deodorizer myself and they’d reimburse it. Absolutely unacceptable. Arriving with an exhausted 4-year-old child, there was no way I was about to run errands.
There was pink mold all alongside the edge of the bathtub. some nasty brown stains on the toilet seat lid. Sticky fingerprints all over the cabinets.
There were no proper cleaning supplies, no bleach, and no gloves, so I literally had to scrub down someone else's filth using dish soap by hand. After a 20 hour travel. I was just about to cry! Imagine giving your child a bath that is not disinfected after pink mold. WHO knows how long that mold was sitting there.

Also the fridge was completely dead and still dead as we speak, day two of the stay.

And believe it or not, they are ghosting me now.
Surprise surprise. The once super responsive team is now completely silent.

I will fix this review and rating once they resolve this issue.

I have been coming to Japan for over forty years, since 1979, often staying for months at a time — sometimes closer to a resident than a tourist. In all those visits, across every corner of this country and many others around the world, I have never been treated as poorly as I was by Sumyca (which is part of Matsuri Technologies 株式会社).

What made it worse was not just the problems themselves — and there were many — but the manner in which they were handled. Every complaint was met with a performance of concern: polite nods, reassuring language, the appearance of action. But it was theatre. Nothing was ever resolved. Each response was simply a delay tactic dressed up as customer service, designed to exhaust your patience until you gave up and went away.

Japan has a well-deserved reputation for hospitality, professionalism, and genuine care for the people it serves. That standard is not accidental — it is cultural, hard-won, and something the Japanese take genuine pride in. Sumyca trades on that reputation while delivering the opposite. They wrap indifference in the language of service, which is a particular kind of dishonesty.

In a country where even a convenience store cashier treats you with more dignity than most luxury establishments elsewhere in the world, Sumyca manages to stand out — for entirely the wrong reasons. They are not merely a disappointment. They are a blemish on everything that makes Japan worth returning to, again and again, for a lifetime.
