A mind blowing experience, delicious 😋 cuisine. Super tender sea bass and Halibut fish. Flavoursome chicken. Love the desserts. One of my top resturants to go to either sole or hosting.
Was treated for my birthday we chose set menu and I ordered breast of duck with mashed potatoes and some vegetables. Dish when arrived looked rather sad, it was obvious that the plate sat under the warm light for longer than it should have.Potato had a dry craust, duck skin was not not crisp, and there was not enough juice on the plate. All in all ( apart from starter whi h was excellent) very dissappointig meal.
Had a poor experience at Soutine - owned by this group. Wrote to complain and had no response.
Went along just before Christmas.
Table for two booked for 11.45am.
We were early and shown to our table.
Our allotted eating time was the customary 90 minutes but we had to wait 30 minutes -40 minutes before our food was served.
It wasn’t great.
We were two thirds through our first course when they came to clear our plates.
The second course came and whilst we were eating the waiters hovered around us.
Third course cane and waiter pointed out we were running over time. We had to eat very quickly all the time getting odd looks from one of the waiters in particular.
They then asked if we would like coffee. I said, “ It looks like you are in. rush” we will go ehsewhere for our coffee. He replied. “ Good idea”.
I intended to visit again in January with friends for a celebratory meal, but gave it a miss and went elsewhere.
I'm done with the Wolseley... It's been our fab place for a few years but unfortunately has gone steadily downhill.. The last visit I had Kedgeree that I picked at because of an unpleasant overpowering ingredient. This time I had an omelette from the limited all day menu - thinking they can't muck that up surely - they did. My friend and I had what resembled a rubber brick on a plate....I ate only possibly a quarter. There seemed to be a drought as far as water was concerned...we continually had to ask for more.. V disappointing and won't be back ....
I booked Sunday lunch at The Wolseley for a special celebration. The restaurant was reasonably busy but not packed. My partner ordered the Petit Plateau de Fruits de Mer as a first course. This arrived on a bed of ice and he commented on how delicious the oysters were. Unfortunately before he had a chance to finish the course a waiter approached and insisted on removing the iced platter as he said it might spill water onto the table forcing my friend to quickly transfer all the remaining fish to his plate containing all the shells. If the dishes that sea food is served on are not suitable for containing melting ice, then clearly they should find alternatives. Then, just as he was putting the final prawn into his mouth, the waiter approached again and removed his plate while he was still chewing! As a second course, my partner ordered Bubble and Squeak with a fried duck egg. This ended up being a circular vegetable pattie with a duck egg on top made soggy by a lake of sauce. We immediately paid the bill and left. I don’t know what has happened to The Wolseley, but it is not the restaurant I used to know. Rather than an elegant dining experience it felt like a “one in, one out” conveyor belt with 3rd rate service. Very sad indeed.
We go to the Wolselry regularly. We arrived on time and ordered, food took over an hour to arrive. When it did arrive it was so salty it was inedible. I could not eat the food, it was nothing short of revolting. Waiting staff didn’t seem to care when I politely reported this, over £100 for an inedible meal. No longer a regular here I will take my custom elsewhere. Ruined what was a special day and special occasion.
We have been to the Wolsey near Marble Arch in the past and had excellent food and service. For my wife's birthday we decided to push the boat out and try The Wolsey City. First impressions were good, welcomed nicely by reception and impressed by the Egyptian themed art deco style. For my wife and son their food was acceptable to good. For me it was very disappointing. I ordered a dressed crab starter and could not believe what was served up. There was a circle of something unidentifiable (I was subsequently told that this was a mixture of brown meat and egg) on top of which was perched no more than a teaspoon of white crab meat! I have always thought that a dressed crab should be the extracted brown and white meat carefully rearranged and served in the crab shell with some brown bread and a little green salad. I have have always known that restaurants don't always give you back all of the meat from the crab but this was ridiculous. A teaspoon of white crab meat for over £23. My dismay was spotted by the Maitre D who, to be fair, offered me an alternative which I accepted. I had the escargot which were fine with a hint of Pastis. My wife went for the grilled fish of the day as her main, a less than imaginative piece of cod. It was described as "fully garnished" - apparently this means the plate was smeared with a pea puree. I, uninspired by cod, chose the Monument Fish Pie. This was supposed to contain cod, salmon and prawns. I did not detect any cod, or any salmon and the prawns were the tiny tasteless excuses for crustacea that are sold frozen in large bags in supermarkets. The fish part of the pie was made up of some chunks of a smoked fish, possibly haddock. The pie was bulked up with hard boiled eggs! I was reminded of the scene in the Big Short where it is explained how left over fish is repurposed to become not stale fish but expensive bouillabaisse. I woke in the middle of the night with severe indigestion and a very loose bowel. Small portion sizes, cheap ingredients and the catering industry standby of bulking up dishes with cheaper ingredients are what you might expect of pub grub but at this level it is not acceptable. Add to that a 4 fold mark up on the wine we had, a £2 per head cover charge and an automatic 15% service charge and you have a recipe for disappointment to the point of feeling conned.

What a miserable visit. I booked a table for two for tea at 3pm. The website clearly states that tea is served between 3-6pm from Monday to Friday. Now, bear with me on this. On arrival (admittedly 15 minutes early) we were told (without compassion and rather too perfunctorily) that tea wasn't served until 3.30pm, so we should have lunch instead. We didn't want lunch (I mentioned their website on timings). One option, we were told, was to return at 3.30pm to have tea, but we would have to give up our table at 4.30pm. There were other options not worth mentioning. We took the table (I nearly walked out, but I hadn't seen my friend in months and hadn't made another booking elsewhere...what terrible foresight). I showed the maître d' the Wolseley's website on my phone (he didn't believe me about the timings for tea). He said he hadn't seen that before and would make a note of it. No apology was forthcoming. Water was poured. And we waited. Ten minutes later, we received menus. Fifteen minutes later, we ordered Welsh rarebit, stating that we did not eat meat. Our waiter (very nice) checked with the chef to make sure it was suitable for us. No, apparently not. After some bemused discussion (we thought it was a vegetarian dish), we ordered two Croque Madame, minus the ham. Some more time passed and our drinks arrived. We enquired again about the Welsh rarebit, and were (eventually) told that the sauce contained some anchovy. Fine by us - could we change our order, please? No, because the other order has already gone through. Ok, we'll made do. By now, the table next to us had been served a full tea with Champagne (our reason for visiting and yes, there was a quantum of cake envy). Eventually, our food arrived. The little gem lettuce leaves were dressed wonderfully and were delicious. Sadly, the rest of the plate comprised a greasy concoction of fried egg and cheese with squashy bread. Time was ticking on (it was after 4pm by now) and we were hungry. So we ate (most of it). 4.30 came and went, and we ordered pots of tea (delivered by a perfect waiter), a sorbet (delicious), a chocolate éclair (mostly very good). No-one asked us to leave. There were tables going spare around us. Bill requested and delivered, more time passed and finally I paid: £87.28 for an unenjoyable and stressful experience. We left just before 6pm. The Wolseley, before it changed hands (2022), was a gem for relaxation and I visited regularly, knowing there was a real treat in store. Happy, attentive and discreet waiters, exquisite food, perfect service - all were the norm. On Friday, 29 December 2023 there was rudeness, a lack of care and attentiveness and the customer was absolutely wrong on all counts. This was my first visit since before lockdown, and it will be my last. Jeremy King really did know what he was doing.
Went last night, table for 4 and chose for our two "out of town" visitors" for its good location, moderate price, previous good experiences. Waitress was pleasant but hopeless, although could have been partly the kitchen. Aperitifs to start took forever to come to the point of nearly sending them back as they came at approx the same time as the starter, and certainly were never going to compliment each other. Two of us finished our warm starters before the cold ones came. Main course had the sides missing for two of us and again came out with big time gaps. Waitress was confused about the wine period (even where to put it) - had to stop a big "tumbler" poor. The manager of that part of the restaurant realised several stuff ups had gone on and was very apologetic. It actually got bad enough that his manager came over and apologised also. The downside - a poor experience and did not enjoy the food with the delivery mess ups and a rather bland main course for two of us. The upside was that the managers recognised there were several problems and worked to fix it and were super apologetic, before I even needed to complain. I will try them one more time and hope it was a blip.
Booked for an afternoon tea for a friends birthday and I must say that it was one of the best afternoon teas my friends and I have had. The staff were attentive, the sandwiches were up to a high standard and if you wanted more sandwiches, cakes or tea it was forthcoming without argument. The price was very reasonable for the service and food. I will certainly be going again.
