Lost over $15000 thanks to them

Went through the RAA to get travel insurance, which turns out is underwritten by Tokio Marine. Spoke to them over the phone about some claims we had after problems on a European holiday, even though we called the “emergency hotline” which wouldn’t help us. “Sure we will cover you for that, just put the claims in on the website”. All claims put in and all denied. Has left us over $15,000 out of pocket and left a very bitter taste of the raa for promoting this company.
Do not use this company for any sort of insurance. The raa has always been good to us, but after this I think it’s time we moved our 7 insurance policies to another company.

The real test of an insurance company


The real test of an insurance company is when it comes to claim payment. On that count they are horribly bad and unprofessional company. They did everything possible to see that they do not pay my claim (from appointing surveyor after surveyors to declining my rent a car claim to no responding. Finally, when I reported the case to insurance regulator of UAE, they came to terms. Thanks to their intervention that they paid my car claim after 2.5 months and issued credit note for rent a car claim. But, again remained silent about a rent a car claim payment.
Don't waste your money and time with such a bad company

Don't waste your time

My experience with Tokio Marine's International Assistance in Japan was honestly awful. They promise to find clinics and make appointments for you, but they instead asked me to find a local clinic, make the appointment myself, and then also pay the bill because the clinic didn't accept direct payment from the company (but there's no attempt on their end to find a different clinic). This is all despite the fact that the whole point of this insurance is they do this for you.

I then tried to file a claim to get my money back, but their claim process is so unnecessarily complex that I have no choice but to think they want me to give up on filing a claim altogether.

I don't understand how I'm the customer paying money for a plan when I'm being made to fill out pages upon pages of paperwork where I'm repeating information I already told them over the phone. It just seems lazy on their end. If you're a total foreigner in Japan there's no way you'd be able to finish the process to claim, so they really shouldn't be advertising as a foreigner-friendly insurance. I'd recommend using another company if you don't want to feel like you're doing their jobs for them.

Thankful we had this policy in place

We took out an International Comprehensive Travel Insurance policy with RAC WA (underwritten by Tokio Marine Nichido) as it seemed to have adequate Covid-19 cover, little did we think we would need to claim as we have never made a travel claim before. Unfortunately my husband caught Covid while we were overseas and got quite sick, just a few days before we were due to fly home. We were staying locally in a communal lodge (shared facilities) and could not safely isolate there away from the other guests. We followed the governments mandates and my husband was sent off to hotel quarantine. We missed our flights home, had additional accommodation expenses, had to extend our dogs boarding and had to rebook transfers and flights - finding flights was a challenge and expensive, we had to cover everything ourselves and claim on our return. It was quite a stressful process. Our claim was covered and I am pleased to say the process, although lengthy in time, was very easy online. Thank you to Shrutika from Tokio Marine Nichido for processing our claim, and to the two lovely customer service representatives on the RAC Emergency helpline while we were overseas - compassionate and understanding.

Customer service not responsive and not following

Basically, you recognize the level of service of an insurance company only when something happens and you just expect to have a responsive customer service team for the follow-up of your claim.

First of all, it is very hard to reach them and you need to attempt multiple times (the call drop with no answer after some times). I tried the callback option but as expected, this is the least efficient way to reach them (of course they didn't call back).

Honestly, I made a mistake because they were cheaper but better to stay away and avoid unnecessary headaches, taking into consideration that there is not much difference between the different actors in the market

eference to the car insurance policy ref: P-100-1006-2020-26582 dated 16 April 2020 from Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co. Ltd, for Ford Edge, 2016 year model bearing Dubai Number plate DXB-T-80582, I would like to inform that the repair done by Al Deema workshop in the month of July 2020 against accident occured on 11 July 2020 is not fully done for the vehicle making it unsuitable to use further. I was travelling back from Khor Fakkan on 02nd Dec 2020, when I noticed the steering getting stuck while turning with a warning message displayed on screen as Steering Malfunction. I informed Al Tayer Motors about the same and they requested me to stop the car without further delay to avoid any unfortunate incident. Accordingly the car was requested to be brought to Al Tayer Motors Service center by recovery. It is really unfortunate that the workshop advised by the insurance company did not do the proper checking or estimate, which could have avoided this huge mishap. Due to unprofessional approach, I am really stuck without any vehicle to travel for my day-to-day activities and hence request to arrange the rent-a-car till the vehicle is being rectified by an authorized workshop, who are professional. This is because of the loss adjuster which is IDEAL LOSS ADJUSTER Company in UAE Recently they paid only AED 3000 because of the Insurance broker effort and i paid AED 9627 for this repair. In my experience, its not customer friendly service and firstly they will check how to reject the claim, secondly they provide the unprofessional third party workshops. Please don't go for this company better to go for other better insuransers if we pay extra also.

My opinion " dodgee"

Emailed their Sydney Australia office seeking clarification on an assessment, found their response to be evasive, deceptive and threatening.
basically , shut up, pay up or we will see you in court attitude.
Not nice people to deal with, I definitely would not trust them in a time of crisis.
