Having completed the Artist Management course, I am now feeling confident and excited to embark on my future ventures. The course was a real eye opener for me, as someone without prior industry knowledge - and I was shocked at just how much scope we covered over the 4 sessions.

Matt truly instills confidence and belief in his students, and this is only reinforced by the top standard of teaching and resources provided by the SMB. If you want to invest in your own potential, enrolling on a course with SMB is a great way to go about it, I for one am keen to sign up to another course!

I did the Music Business Fundamentals course, and I am so glad I decided to do it. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in gaining a more professional and complete understanding of the music industry – whether you want to work in the industry or even if you are a musician. I found the structure of the course and the tutor, Matt, to be very engaging and thorough. I loved hearing about Matt's own personal experiences in the industry and learning about different concepts through his own examples. The one-to-one session that Matt offers at the end of the course is so useful for any clarifications on course material as well as career advice. The guidance I've gained on my next steps in starting my career in the music industry have been crucial to my confidence and clarity. I feel so inspired and motivated by the knowledge and advice I have gained from this course. Thank you Matt and SMB!

I cannot recommend SMB highly enough. I took the Music Business Fundamentals course last week and learnt so much from it. I now have not only a deeper understanding of how the industry functions as a whole, but a clearer vision of my future in the industry. Matt is such a great tutor, he is very enthusiastic and so knowledgeable about what he talks about. He went into such detail on each aspect and answered every question thoroughly and completely.

If you are looking to get into the industry, this is definitely the right place to start!

I couldn’t recommend SMB enough. The past week has exceeded all my expectations and more. I did the fundamentals course and was very impressed with the content covered and level of depth Matt went into. Despite being online SMB made sure that we got the same experience as we would’ve done at the school, with interactive activities and group work which allowed us to discuss our ideas and share any previous knowledge we had prior to the course. As someone who had little knowledge before but a passion to work in the industry I now feel like I’m one step closer to the next chapter in my life! Matt + SMB has left me feeling inspired and excited to continue learning and hopefully work in the industry one day!

Where do i start!
The course was thoroughly educational and fantastically put together by SMB.
It really has opened my mind and gave me a much better insight of how the music Industry is organised and run by all the departments involved.
I thoroughly recommend if you have any interest in music or the industry itself.

Impeccable quality and engaging teaching with relevant and up-to-date case studies. Learning materials are of a very high standard and it is clear that a lot of care and attention-to-detail has gone into creating these courses. I greatly enjoyed compartmentalizing how business practices applied to various sectors and roles within the music industry, and each new topic was considered from various points of view.

Without SMB I fear that I would have stumbled aimlessly into the first sector I found employment in, however with Matt's brilliant content and personal guidance I am now extremely excited and prepared to explore a career within the industry I have always loved.

Amidst the pandemic, SMB has implemented a very sophisticated online teaching portal unlike anything I've seen. It really could not be much closer to being in a classroom. I cannot recommend these courses more highly if you wish to get involved in the industry, or even just to broaden your understanding of an extremely nuanced and rapidly evolving environment.

A great course, with lots of insight. Matt was very helpful, answering all our questions and being very supportive.

I took the Advanced Artists Management course in May/June 2020 and found Matt to be extremely clear and helpful in his approach to teaching. Having the lessons online rather than in person (due to Covid) actually worked better for me and the tech that SMB have is really good. I’d highly recommend this course and Matt at SMB if you’re looking for clear, concise lessons with solid notes shared post each session. Matt is also extremely generous with his time, willing to answer questions outside of the lessons and and looking at specific real world examples in the sessions where needed.

The Music Marketing and Promotion Course was excellent!

I enjoyed every minute of it and it was conducted very well as a virtual classroom. I feel like I have gained a huge plethora of knowledge about the music industry that I needed to know.

The course tutor Matt was brilliant and it was really inspiring to listen to his industry achievements and the amazing people he has worked with. He really went over and above to impart all of his great knowledge and advice.

I would 100% recommend the course to anyone who wants to break into the industry as it is an absolute asset to my experience now.

This course was very interactive and beneficial on so many levels... other than the great material provided by Matt, he gave us all his time to explain to us all the modules in detail. You will not be able to find such a course with great material and a great tutor - trust me I’ve been researching for a while to find something close to this but none is comparable. Register, register and register because it’s going to be worth it!

We found the Music Publishing, Sync & Licensing Course invaluable in filling in the gaps in our knowledge, dispite being involved in the industry for years! We have such a greater understanding of both the early history, current practices and the new digitally focused future of Music Publishing. It has really helped us feel more comfortable and confident in the decision making within our company and has assisted in sculpting our business model.

Tremendous course and Matt was extremely helpful and engaging throughout and has pledged to continue to do so following the end of the course. Highly informative and highly recommended!

The content that we covered over the two day (!) course (May 2020) - was extremely interesting: case studies - Q&A's - different aspects of the business - the list goes on.

Tutor Matt Errington makes the course very engaging and his knowledge and experience in the music industry are invaluable.

Great experience on the Music Business Fundamentals course with Matt Errington. The course was extensive on the subject, but delivered in a really engaging way. Would highly recommend!

It was broken to into four mind opening sessions and has supplied me with the some great tools to take forward. Jack Clothier (Alcopop Records Director) takes the first three sessions. He gives you first hand experience and very honest guidance to the current state of play for indie labels in the UK and europe. His nuggets of wisdom and encouragement will be used again and again. The last session was led by Matt Errington (SMB Director). In this session I received a comprehensive breakdown of how Major labels work in modern times and more importantly what role they play in the future of my career. All the sessions taken had been backed up by plenty of reference material and the level of support is just wonderfully humbling. If your serious about taking your music passion and making it a career, then these are two gents I truly recommend you should meet ;)

I recently finished a course on music marketing. Our tutor (Matt) was very outgoing, friendly and well experienced, I really enjoyed him as he was just a cool guy who puts a lot into detail and uses his own career within the industry to explain things which is useful as someone who is wanting to start a career in music. I will be returning to SMB, hoping to attend all the other short courses.

Signing up for Music Marketing & Promotion was me taking the first step towards an unreachable dream - or at least it felt like it. Now if feels reachable, renewed my love for marketing and confirmed that music marketing is where I want to be.
This class covers all the basics of the current music industry and what you would need to know to get started in that industry. I was surprised at how up to date and current the information was.
Matt is a great tutor, passionate, approachable and very knowledgeable about the industry.
The other students there, a varied mix of people with different backgrounds, added another layer of interesting conversations to the weekend.

Honestly, the course has been life changing and has opened up doors for me to explore for my career in the music industry.
