I want you to rest assured, as a teacher, I’ve echoed your sentiments to the higher-ups at Yoga journal, specifically that we need to improve the user experience of the membership dashboard, and add more functionality that an active yoga teacher can actually use in their day-to-day.
If you haven’t logged in recently, I’ve redesigned the membership dashboard user interface to be easier to navigate and use. I’m in the process of adding more pre-made sequences to the sequence builder, as well as curating a database of yoga playlists, sortable by duration and tempo, for teachers to plug and play in their classes.
We eventually plan to spotlight TeachersPlus member sequences and playlists in Yoga Journal’s newsletter and social media platforms. We’re also much more actively pursuing additional member-only offers and discounts from trusted brands that a yoga teacher can actually use. For example, I’m currently finalizing a handful of travel-related deals to help traveling teachers save a few bucks.

Teacher Plus doesn’t really serve me
As for the classes offered, I find the free downloads to be little more than teasers to get us to purchase the full course it basically “introduces” and I cannot afford YJ fees for continuing education on top of other places I choose to learn from. Most yoga instructors don’t make a lot of money contrary to the image presented by the yoga community and we have other expenses on top of CE.
I subscribe to a number of organizations that send emails relevant to my interests. As a yoga instructor I’ve found a number of resources that resonate with the direction of my teaching. From time to time I must reevaluate the emails I receive and how much I utilize them. I find I open Yoga Journal emails least of them. I truly value YJ’s information. In fact when I’m researching something specific they’re my go to. I find YJ to be very credible and their articles are well written and easy to understand. I would like to receive subscriptions from YJ less frequently. My inbox is overwhelmed.

Questioning the expense
Namaste, Sat Nam. I don’t understand why I have to pay dues to join YJBP as a prerequisite to being insured. The only benefit to me is a subscription to Yoga Journal, which costs a lot less than the membership fee. I have been an insured yoga teacher for over twenty years. It is a substantial expense. Thank you.
