Dishappointed.
The Xmas dinner had highs and lows. The bread was great, although at 200gm for two people, generous. That's equivalent of a quarter of a large loaf, but it was very nice. The pate with brioche was also very good.
The star of the day was the champagne and saffron soup - a taste sensation. An extra scallop would have been good.
This was followed by the dishappointment of the day, the beef wellington. It cooked perfectly and created a great photo, but was bland. Lacking in flavour, the mushrooms may well have not been there and the cabbage certainly shouldn't have been there. It may have been a signature, but it was not one that added anything other than chewiness. The carrots did not cook and retained their original crunch as they were pulled from the ground, The celeriac and potato was nice, but completely over powered by the jus.
The desert was pleasant enough. The pears were firm and crunchy and not soft as I would prefer them. The petit fours to follow were great and my chosen muscat pushed them along nicely.
Overall, some outstanding elements. But overall, dishappointed with this menu.
