Bait & Switch Tours
I booked a Viator tour through TripAdvisor and received a confirmation for the tour from Viator. Today, on the day of the tour, we were informed that the itinerary for the tour would be different, about 30 minutes after leaving the pick up spot. There was no option for us to get off the bus and not go after finding out the place we wanted to visit on the tour wasn’t going to happen. Apparently Viator is the middle man between TripAdvisor and the Japanese company who carries out the tour and itineraries are adjustable based on what people book. We spoke with the tour guide who told us to call Viator and when we called Viator they said it wasn’t their fault either. The Viator customer service associate tried to blame me and say the flower farm is seasonal (which it is), but it is August so the dates for the flower farm are in season and confirmed on my reservation from Viator. None of the three companies want to take accountability and no apology was offered. I will be getting a refund, but am stuck on a full day tour doing different activities than what I chose and paid for and since it is my last day there is no time to rebook the activity I wanted to do. I have booked several tours from Viator in the past and this is the first issue and their handling of the matter has caused them my business in the future.
Update:
The person I talked to on the phone said a refund would be given. I just received an email that the tour operated as planned and a refund would not be given. IT ABSOLUTELY DID NOT GO TO THE PLACES I BOOKED.
I also sent an email to customer service as Ricardo suggested below. It did not receive a response. I had three more Viator tours on this trip and 2 of 3 did not visit the sites they said.
