eBay Doesn’t Care About Sellers – Broken Platform with Zero Accountability
I’ve been a loyal seller on eBay for years with over 500+ sales and consistent positive feedback, but after my most recent experience, I can honestly say: if you’re a seller, stay far away from eBay.
I sold a high-value item, accurately described, with clear high-resolution photos showing every detail — including visible cosmetic wear. The buyer made a lower offer, which I accepted. I even paid out of pocket for upgraded delivery to ensure it arrived safely. Everything I listed was in the photos and shipped exactly as described.
Soon after receiving the item, the buyer began claiming parts were missing — not parts I had listed or shown, but a whole accessory set that only comes with a new version of the product. She uploaded screenshots from a retail box listing, not my actual listing. Then she claimed the item wasn’t working — but never said that in eBay messages, only over the phone.
Despite this, I followed eBay’s process to the letter. I called eBay support, and a representative advised me that if I accepted the return within the window, the buyer would not be allowed to leave negative feedback. I took their advice. Big mistake.
The item was returned damaged, with parts missing and no longer working. I submitted date-stamped evidence showing the machine was functional before I shipped it. eBay still refunded the buyer in full, and allowed her to leave a damaging negative review—filled with misinformation and personal attacks.
When I called to challenge the outcome, I was told there was nothing more I could do. But the most outrageous part? The eBay representative casually said:
“We ban customers every day. We can afford to lose customers — we get new ones all the time.”
Let that sink in. That’s how eBay views its user base — disposable. Sellers are just numbers to them. The customer service rep treated me like I was interrupting his lunch break.
No real protection. No accountability. No support for honest sellers. eBay has created a system where dishonest buyers can exploit policies with zero risk. They get full refunds, leave false feedback, and walk away, while sellers like me lose money, inventory, time, and reputation.
I did nothing wrong. I listed the item clearly. I communicated politely. I followed every policy eBay told me to. And they still sided with the buyer.
This isn’t a one-off — it’s a broken system. And worse, eBay doesn’t care. If you're thinking about selling here, don’t. There are better platforms that treat their users like humans, not statistics.
