Charges on my account
Felt misled — £1 "verification" turns into a hidden continuous payment
I signed up for a directory listing and was told I'd need to pay £1 to verify I'm a real person, and that this would be refunded — which it was. What wasn't made clear is that this £1 transaction also sets up a continuous payment authority on your card, which they later used to try and take £12 without any clear, upfront agreement from me.
This is the email response:
We see that you were registered for the Prime Business Plan trial for which an email was sent on Jul14. Can you please check your email and confirm having received the registration email.
You can log in to your account and change your listing to the Free Plan.

I signed up for a directory listing and was told I'd need to pay £1 to verify I'm a real person, and that this would be refunded — which it was. What wasn't made clear is that this £1 transaction also sets up a continuous payment authority on your card, which they later used to try and take £12 without any clear, upfront agreement from me.
I don't recall seeing in plain terms that the £1 "verification" would double as authorisation for future payments. It only became obvious when I saw the £12 charge appear and had to contact my bank to block it.
If you're considering a listing with 118 Directory, be very careful with the £1 "verification" step — check exactly what you're agreeing to, and keep an eye on your bank statement afterwards. I've had to dispute the charge and cancel the payment authority through my bank directly.
