Bogdan is a super guide! He has a lot of interests and does plenty of activities, so everything is explained from the point of view of someone that knows and lives the places where you're taken! A long walk in the mountains, through the villages, with beautiful views, to finish with a really tasty and large lunch! Super recommended!

The half day tour from Brasov to Bran Castle and Rasnov was excellent and well worth it. Our guide, Charlie, was full of local insight into the spots we visited and into Romania as a whole. He chatted in a friendly, easy going way. He was so well informed and enthusiastic. Having a local guide really tells and it made our trip.

My two teenage children and I spent a wonderful day hiking with Marian in Piatra Craiului National Park. The hike was around 20 km with 1,100 meters of ascent, and every kilometer was worth it. The route was stunning, with spectacular views and beautiful mountain scenery.Marian is an excellent guide: friendly, knowledgeable, reliable, and passionate about the mountains. He took great care of us throughout the day and shared interesting insights about the area.Everything worked flawlessly. Marian was on time, picked us up and dropped us off in Brașov, and drove a clean and comfortable Subaru Forester.If you are looking for a genuine mountain expert and a great hiking experience in Romania, I can warmly recommend Marian and Active Travel. Absolutely fantastic experience and introduction to the wonders of Transylvania. Charlie is a gem of a guide! He's so knowledgeable - the history he has at his fingertips was perfect for a history nut such as myself. The pace was great, we saw an incredible variety of things, ate delicious local dishes, hiked in the mountains - very special. Charlie also knows where the best torte is after a hard day of touristing! We loved staying at the Republique Boutique Hotel in Sibiu and the Heritage Boutique Hotel in Sighisoara (make sure you have a park view!). For Brasov I'd opt for something away from the super busy tourist area more tranquil than the Hotel Bella Musica, but that's just me. It was just an amazing week in a very special part of the world. This company says small groups and it really was - just me. My guide was Tudor and he was very knowledgeable and knew everyone. I had the your of Bran castle and it was amazing. I was so impressed I booked a tour of fortified churches the next day. Just as good if not better. This was the highlight of my time in Romania. Can’t recommend enough.

We booked a "Discover Bran Castle and Rasnov Fortress" tour from ActiveTravel which was conducted as a private tour in a private car by a guy named Tudor. This random "let's check out Dracula's castle" impulse buy turned out to be a private VIP experience with the most amazing, friendly, dedicated, and knowledgeable tour guide you could wish for. This was absolutely amazing! Tudor was one of these rare genuine tour guides who really, honestly enjoyed his jobs and went above and beyond any expectations we had.

The tour started at 8am, Tudor picked us up from our hotel in Brasov instead of having us travel to the meeting point. We made it to the castle before it opened, were among the first in line to buy our tour tickets and had a guide through the Castle and torture chamber with just 4 people. (External guides are not allowed anymore, but the small group personal castle guide experience was really good.)
We continued walking around the wider castle area and then headed to the fortress. The upper fortress area is closed, but just walking around the lower sections with Tudor was really fun and we got a great insight into the history of the entire region.

This entire experience really spoiled us. Private car, a guide so genuine you wanna hang out and be friends with, ... I don't think I can do large group bus tours anymore after this. 🙈

Genuinely had the BEST DAY EVER on the Piatra Craiului private hiking tour with Active Travel. I would give this 10 stars if I could.

This activity was PERFECT, I was looking to get out and explore some of the Romanian mountains in a safe way, and this service delivered. I got to hike through beautiful pine and beech forests, scale some of the parks magnificent limestone peaks, and see some of surely the BEST views in Romania!

Going with Active Travel made made everything easy and safe. I got picked up and dropped off at my accommodation, which was super convenient. My guide also provided hiking poles, which was lucky for me as my luggage allowance didn't allow for extra hiking equipment. Pre-departure, communication from both the company and the guide was great - I was messaged soon after making my booking with prompt responses, enabling me to prepare for the day.

The one unknown was the route - I didn't have a sense of where we were going, but don't stress there's a reason - your guides pick the route most appropriate for you once they know you a bit better. My route was perfect for my experience and fitness level, expertly chosen by my guide, where I felt challenged yet had heaps of fun (which is what hiking is supposed to be about).

I'm sure all the Active Travel guides are amazing, but I was lucky enough to be guided by Bogdan who I think is the BEST GUIDE EVER!!! Bogdan is a total mountain man - he does every outdoor sport you can think of PLUS he has a military and martial art background so there is no one you could feel safer with. Bogdan oozes passion for the outdoors, and shared with me stories about his adventures and information about the area across our time together, as well as sharing his interesting perspectives on Romania more broadly (plenty of time for chats when you're together for 9 hours). Bogdan was professional, highly experienced, and totally hilarious - he spent a good portion of our 9 hours together cracking jokes to keep my spirits up, and even taught me some games and provided tips to improve my technique. He was entertaining, supportive and the best company to be hiking with, I feel very grateful to have had such a wonderful guide.

Like any sane person I was slightly worried about bears, but Bogdan was 100% prepared and knew what to do, had all the equipment we needed just in case and was constantly scoping the area for bear-and-weather related threats, and made me feel totally at ease that I was in good hands.

If you are even slightly interested in hiking in Romania, BOOK THIS EXPERIENCE. It is a safe, convenient way to get into nature and experience a different side of Romania, and you'll have so much fun with great people. The challenge of the hike, the stunning nature and the company made this day so special and my favorite thing I did on my trip. I recommend this tour a million times over - THANK YOU to Active Travel and Bogdan in particular for looking after me and providing me with this opportunity, this was without a doubt one of the coolest things I have ever done travelling.

We did the hike from Pestera to Magura and back. It includes a detour to a bat cave which is nice if you have never done one. The 7 km hike out to Magura is very interesting as you walk past traditional and modernizing farms and rural scenes. The set meal in Magura is very good. The guide Tiberiu offers interesting information and perspective. The hike back is less interesting: a 5km uphill slog that I gather some participants refuse to do. But we were fine in our 75+ state. All in all we really had a good time.

Absolutely incredible experience with Active Travels in Brașov.

We headed into the forest in the evening to watch wild bears from a hidden observation hut, and the entire experience felt unreal from start to finish. Within the first 10 minutes, we already spotted a young bear cub wandering through the forest, which immediately got everyone excited.

After that, we waited quietly and patiently, and then suddenly, one bear appeared… then another… then a third. Seeing multiple wild brown bears in their natural habitat, completely free and only meters away, was something I’ll never forget.

What made it even better was how respectful and authentic the whole experience felt. Our guide was fantastic, shared interesting insights throughout the evening, and even allowed us to stay a bit longer so we could enjoy the moment fully.

Our guide Dan was extremely kind, helpful, and attentive throughout the trip. He answered all of our questions and made us feel very comfortable. During the journey, we listened to great music together and even sang songs along the way, which made the experience even more enjoyable. He also took us to beautiful spots where we could take photos.

Dan shared a lot of interesting information about the region, including its history, geography, culture, and local life. He also guided us with our shopping needs and helped us throughout the tour in a very thoughtful way.

This was an amazing day trip to 3 beautiful places in Romania. It was a small private tour with another lovely couple & our guide Charlie was an exceptional tour guide, we really had a fantastic day with him.

O passeio ao Castelo de Peleș, Bran e a fortaleza Ranoșv foi excente, viagem tranquila. O guia Charles muoto competente, cuidadoso,mesmo eu não sabendo inglês se comunicou bem comigo.Conhece bem a história, enfim recomendo esse passeio.

My partner and I spent the day with our guide Isti today and we had the most amazing day!! The mountains were covered in heavy snow which made the hike more challenging, but Isti was well prepared with hiking equipment for us to use and was caring and patient throughout the hike. He was also highly experienced and knowledgeable. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking and it was wonderful to see the countryside and village life in Transylvania. Our lunch at the guest house was a delicious end to our day, with a short walk back to the car to finish. You must experience this day for yourself!
