Was disappointed advised to come at a certain time with a dog in mind..arrived on time to be told by another person waiting about just had to stand about until someone available. On chatting with another person...they too had been told same time & they were interested in same dog..why??? Hung about while then told really they were closed had to wait around again as other people were being given attention who came along after us. They decided not the dog for us even though we didn't get to meet the dog..sad if they've so many dogs & willing dog lovers wanting to give a good loving caring home to one of them. Very disheartened & very disappointed. Advised to keep a look on website..why?? When the dog we were interested in didn't even get a chance to meet yet on web site the dog was reserved obviously given to someone on same day!!!

I adopted a 4 year year old golden retriever and couldn't be happier. He was matched by Karen for our family perfectly. After loosing my labrador at aged 14 , Karen was aware it was an older dog we wanted to home and be in our family . We are 6 months now after adoption and hes just perfect . Absolutely amazing dog and hes joined in with everything. The team and Karen matched our lives with him and will be forever grateful.

Rescured a collie 2 yrs ago, dog was deaf, not told by Karen or her parents who did a house &garden check, jaw covered in lumps, vet had to operate, spleen about to burst, had to be removed,back end arthritis affected, needed spayed, I was told, also age was an issue, older than told.I spent over 1000.00 on dog, who was not insured owing to delay at vets because of urine infection when rehomed ,dog lasted 2 yrs, then had to be put to sleep with dementia.GO ELSEWHERE.

Applied for a dog , explained who I was and how loved this dog would be .. I’m retired have a safe home / secure garden etc husband works from home ..
got an email saying I wasn’t eligible with no reason. but to keep checking the website.
And yet there’s left a dog in a pound when he would’ve had the best life with me .
Sadly I won’t apply … I’ll try a different pound that will appreciate what I can give to a dog .

This place is so bad the volunteers are ok but the main person is so rude we tried adopting a dog and they ask us to come down and visit the dog so we did but then they couldn't get the hold of the dog because he was so nervous which we understood the dogs situation so we said we would be willing to work with them and even volunteer they said thats great apply on line so we did but then we havend heard back from almost home so we messaged them no reply so then we tried ringing them but no answer so then we emailed them no reply they are ignoring us now they are being so rude wouldn't recommend this place at all

I sent an application on the 19th of January on a dog, I am horrified that no one even contacted me to say I was unsuccessful or for feedback. I have sent numerous emails for clarification and again no response. Disappointing, especially when you're genuinely eager to adopt and provide a loving home. Absolutely heart broken

Agree with all the negative reviews, I have already re-homed dogs from here, they are overwhelmed with dogs, many not on website, they are safe n fed but medical care is lacking, all dogs seem to deteriorate in health from 1st viewing to getting them home, developing skin conditions due to bleach which are not contagious as didn't spread to my dogs. Dogs are not bathed or groomed so coats matted with own faeces. Also know of others had t same experience, you are nearly rescuing the dog again from almost home. The email system is a joke, if you apply, keep getting emails saying haven't had an update from you/are you still interested/please WhatsApp even though i have! Such a shame as dogs here are more in need than other sanctuaries yet people can't get in contact

Very poor communication. Slow to reply. Won’t answer telephone, and mailbox full. They provide a timeline for the different steps of the process. This was not adhered to.
Was ghosted and ignored when tried to discover if I had been successful. I tried different methods as I just wanted to keep my family updated. I asked for a small house dog, however was declined as my garden was too big for this small puppy. Was also told my grass area was quite a distance from my back door when I was toilet training the puppy. This did not prohibit me successfully training my other dogs. These were not issues that I would have thought prohibited me from rehoming a puppy.

Recently rehomed a dog which they had advertised on their website as "being good with other dogs", to which unfortunately after a month of being in the home has attacked multiple dogs. They didn't tell us about when the dog got neutered - there were two holes with stitches in his groin area which we were not made aware of. They did not send their medical history of the dog to our vets which we had requested - even provided details of new name and our vets email address so that they didn't have to do half the work on chasing us for. The dog was riddled in its own literal faeces hanging off his back legs, the dog was so skinny we could feel every single rib.

Was reading other reviews on here and seemingly we were not the only people who had difficulties with communication and they didn't bother to give us any updates about changing microchip details unless we hounded them - had even asked our vets to ring the microchip company but they couldn't do anything about it as the shelter had to change the details.

The woman we dealt with was rude when we first met them and should of taken it as a red flag and ran. Was following instructions as per another reviewer had stated and was left sitting outside for 30+ minutes, to then be told "it's a good thing you came up or else we would have forgotten about you."
Messaged them 2 weeks ago and have not heard back. Very disappointed as we hear so much about this place - even our vets were shocked at the outcome of what happened.

I would not even bother giving these people a chance and instead go to a different shelter that actually cares about the dogs they have and the people who are potentially going to be owners. I feel sorry for the animals they have in.

We have sent several emails and WhatsApp messages, yet we have not received any response or guidance on what options are available to us. It’s quite disheartening, as we are genuinely eager to provide a loving home for Katie.

Our previous dog lived for 17 wonderful years, and we are now looking for a companion for our current dog, Molly. We are lifelong dog lovers and have always provided excellent care for our pets. It saddens me to think that dogs in need of homes may be missing out on an opportunity to join a caring and loving family like ours.

Given the lack of communication, I cannot help but feel that something is not right. I’ve noticed similar concerns in some reviews, which raises red flags. While we are willing to provide all necessary information, including references from our vet and proof of a secure garden, it seems as though the process is unnecessarily difficult. If the goal is to find homes for these animals, why are potential adopters being ignored?

This experience has left us questioning the motives of the rescue center, and we are now considering buying a Cocker Spaniel instead. We just want to give a dog a safe and happy home, and we feel disappointed by the lack of transparency and responsiveness in this process.

Applied for a dog but was willing to consider any dog. Got an email to say I had been unsuccessful but no reasons were given why and no other dog was put forward for me to consider which is odd with how many rescue animals need homes. When people actually want to give a dog a home they are turned down. No wonder the rescues are bursting at the seams with animals. It's the animals that are losing out on a good home.

I adopted my little Evie, 4 months ago and the team at almost home were amazing 🤩 it was always the dog being happy which was the most important thing which was just how I wanted it to be! From the homecheck to the meet and finally taking Evie home everything was done in a very professional and organised manner and I always felt I had the teams support afterwards if I ever had any questions. We are so lucky to have been blessed with our gorgeous girl 💖🐶🐾 cannot thank them enough

Almost Home are a fantastic charity run by the most caring people I have experienced, we adopted our little Murphy, who has brought so much joy into our lives that we are forever thankful to all the hardworking staff who have dedicated their lives to saving these animals <3 Thank you Almost Home NI!

I've sent several emails over the past month as I was wanting to adopt but they don't respond to emails or messages. I've filled in the online application twice and not heard back from them. We don't fall under the exclusion criteria and are experienced pet owners so not sure why we are continually being ignored!

I wanted to adopt from here but was messed around by them over the course of 2 weeks and eventually gave up. I followed their instructions and requests exactly, and still got messed around. The information provided was all over the place, they couldn't provide clear instructions or answers, such a mess.

A few of the shelters in Northern Ireland are like this, they're ran by a small group of old and unqualified self-entitled women, I feel bad for the dogs.
