Intrusive and time-wasting

Excessive unnecessary duplication of questions which my wife had already answered for both of us, but which they then required me to log in and answer separately: wasted a great deal of our time. Requiring access to all transactions on our bank account is an unnecessarily excessive intrusion on our privacy, and looks suspiciously like a GDPR breach to me.

Hi Mr Jones,

Sorry to hear the process felt duplicative and intrusive, that's not what we're aiming for. On the duplication point: each person on a joint application needs to complete their own Source of Funds verification and consent separately, so unfortunately your wife's answers can't be carried across to your account.

On the transaction access, conveyancers are required under the Government's Anti-Money Laundering rules to check the source of client funds, and this is what previously meant emailing PDF bank statements back and forth, which actually exposes more of your data, for longer, to more people. Open Banking shares the same information but does so securely and only with the party you've approved, nothing is shared without your permission, and it can be deleted on request. We're FCA-regulated and ICO-registered, so this isn't a GDPR grey area, it's a standard, compliant part of the conveyancing process.

It was easy to do

I’m not good with I.T and stressed out about doing this process but also knew that I had to because I was helping my son to buy his first home.
I did leave it for a while because I’ve never had to do anything like this. But it really was a simple process, much easier than I expected and didn’t take long to do. Plus he couldn’t proceed without it. So don’t worry about it and just do it
