Very easy to reach out and connect with one of the founders - Tommy. Information sent beforehand which helps to provide information and a plan as to how they can help. Professional service which combined with knowledge of private companies and the police, will make for useful guidance.

I met with Tommy from Blue Light Transition in November 2025 for a consultation about building a sustainable career beyond policing and planning my transition as I approached 25 years of service.

One piece of advice stood out immediately: stop positioning myself simply as a “Police Officer” and instead present myself as an “Investigation Specialist” with highly transferable skills. Tommy also encouraged me to build relationships with senior leaders in organisations I was interested in, rather than waiting for vacancies to appear.

I put that advice into action straight away, updating my LinkedIn profile and proactively connecting with senior leaders in target organisations. When a role came up in late December that I had been monitoring, I didn’t just submit an application. Instead, I reached out to the management team I’d already connected with and asked if we could meet for a coffee and informal conversation before I applied.

Although we never managed to meet, I received an encouraging response and was invited to apply. Those same individuals were later involved in the interview process, and I genuinely believe the prior connection helped me stand out.

After three interviews, I was delighted to be offered the role. I have now successfully transitioned from policing into a new career and resigned from the police with confidence about the future.

Tommy’s guidance didn’t just improve my CV or LinkedIn profile—it changed my mindset and gave me the confidence to take control of my transition. The advice was practical, relevant and, most importantly, effective.

I regularly recommend Blue Light Transition to colleagues who are considering their next move, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Tommy to anyone planning their next chapter beyond the emergency services.

I started looking into my options for life after the police! I was a little early because I still had a good 10-15 years to go but I wanted to start early to see what I needed to do to prepare myself.

I’m glad I reached out to Blue light Transition when I did. I always thought that I’d be a police officer until retirement age, I’d got my self upto DS and was looking at DI however something happened on a personal level which affected me and my family and without going into detail the Police “family” let us down.

Thanks to Tommy I was able to set myself clear goals and the preparation that I did with his support set me up for what now is a job I love.

Blue light transition isn’t a business it’s a way of changing your mindset! If your thinking of leaving any of the blue lights then speak to Tommy and the team but what I will say is YOU have to be ready to make the changes and the tweaks here and then to reap the rewards.

I listened to the advice, I made the changes and changed my mindset and I’m now out of a 20 year career which I loved but found it was slowly making me ill.

I was first contacted by Janet who provided me with her background in policing and what she and her son Tommy had set up with BLT. I then spoke to Tommy who gave me some great advice over a teams meeting, with no pressure to sign up. I messaged him again and asked for another chat and we discussed my situation and he was honest and helpful. I was under no pressure to sign up and in his words "you've got to be ready, but if you're not then come back to us when you are." He was helpful and left the lines of communication open should I want to sign up, and his advice on LinkedIn has been beneficial too. The only reason I didn't sign up was because I secured a job prior to getting to that point, but I was close to. I've kept in contact should I ever need their services in the future.

I really enjoyed working with BLT. Tommy and Janet were really friendly and knowledgeable. They listened to me and were a great support when I was looking to leave the police and it was brilliant to have someone on my side guiding me all the way through the job application process. Tommy and the team are great. For anyone who is serious about leaving the police BLT are thoroughly worth your while. I had previously been applying for jobs for 12 months before using BLT, with no luck. Within 3 months I landed myself a great job!

Turned to Tommy and the team after leaving the Met on a career break and took the time to look for something new. Friendly and personable, good advice, and a clear plan on how to present myself in a difficult market. Always available for advice as and when I needed it. Got two job offers within 3 months of working with the team.
