I used CHS to help me find a care home for my dad.
My adviser Nina was fab! She scoured the local area to find availability that met my dad’s specific needs. It was a tricky one as he is bed bound and needed to be taken into the home on a stretcher so room needed to be ground floor and accessible or upstairs with a lift big enough to accommodate a stretcher. With so many homes being older and not purpose built this was quite tricky.
Nina called around 40 homes and talked me through a shortlist of which I chose to view 3. Nina arranged the viewings for me at suitable times and arranged assessment of my dad in hospital by the home that we chose.
It was made clear to me that as a free service to me and my dad, that CHS may receive a fee if we chose a home that they had an arrangement with. I’m good with this as it cost me nothing which is rare these days, better that a business pays in my opinion! Win win for all! They also have lots of very good Google reviews that gave me the confidence to use them.
I wasn’t disappointed in my choice. The work that Nina put in was exceptional. I wouldn’t have known where to start or indeed had the time to call multiple homes. As an expert, Nina knew the homes to approach and questions to ask to ensure my time wasn’t wasted. I am so very grateful of that 😊 I wouldn’t hesitate to use this service again or recommend to other people.

Total lack of transparency. They contacted SEVEN agencies in the space of 3 weeks, tried to pressure me into an unsafe care package for my mother, told me to find my own care and gave me a link to the CQC website which had a list of 80 other agencies in the city. My mum was to be discharged and we were given CHS details from hospital. At no point were we told how CHS operates, we were led to believe that they would work with us to find the best care. CHS contacted a total of 7 agencies. One lied about their availability and we were pressured into accepting a package which would leave my mother without care for 17 hours. If we had been told at the start that they only deal with a limited number of agencies, we woukd not have had my mother languishing in hospital for over two months. They get away with it because NHS have no other chose. Absolutely disgusting.

Care home Selection found me a good choice if homes for my father, they organised the visits and kept in touch with me at all times. My father is now settled in a care home and I could not have done it without their help

I was recommended by the NHS to find a care home for my 94 year old father. By the tone of their recommendation (in order to discharge my father as soon as possible), I was under the impression that this organisation was part of the NHS.

This is not true.

Carehome Selection called me and we went through a questionnaire of my father’s needs. They promised to give me all the options in the locations I had indicated.

The following day, I received an email with only 3, homes, which Carehome Selection deemed suitable for my father’s needs, in two locations. I was shocked about how few homes were available.

My family then started our own research (very easy, just Google), and found so many care homes. Within 10 minutes, my sister found a wonderful home, in the right location. She arranged a viewing.

In the meantime, Carehome Selection were doing their ‘hard-sell’ and I told them that we were interested in a care home which they had not recommended. The Carehome Selection salesperson then began to tell me that the care home we had chosen would not be able to meet my father’s needs. They then sent me a list of, suddenly, more available homes.

It was at this point, I became suspicious and began to research this company. I was feeling that this was all about commission. I then found a damning article online by The Guardian, just Google Carehome selection, and you will find it.

I emailed them and told them how my father was not a commission opportunity to us.

My father was then admitted to the care home. They, could indeed cater for his needs. If we had listened to Carehome Selection, we would never have found this wonderful home.

It is clear to me that our relatives are just cash cows for these organisations. Do your own research and choose the best for your dear relative.
