Thank you for your thoughtful review and suggestions Uli! We're glad to hear that you found the calculator easy to use and well put together.

We aim to strike a balance between precision and simplicity, ensuring that users can estimate their carbon footprint in just a few minutes while still gaining valuable insights. For this reason, we use broad categories in some cases, like home size, to keep the process efficient. That said, we appreciate your suggestion regarding square footage, and we'll take it into consideration for future improvements.

Regarding categories with lower impact, we generally exclude or simplify those that contribute less than 0.1 tons of CO2e per year. Our goal is to focus on the most impactful areas while keeping the experience user-friendly. The calculator is designed to provide a quick yet meaningful overview of personal emissions, and while it may not capture every detail, it ensures users land in the right general category (Climate Hero, Climate Friend, Climate Consumer, or Climate Villain). You can read more about our methodology here: https://climatehero.me/climate-projects/.

We fully agree that systemic change from corporations and governments is essential in tackling the climate crisis. At the same time, we believe that individual actions contribute to demand shifts, influence policy, and inspire broader collective action. Every step counts.

Thank you for the recommendation to connect users with resources like Rewiring America—we appreciate ideas on how to empower users beyond the calculator. We’ll explore how we can incorporate more external resources in the future.

Your feedback is invaluable in helping us refine our tools and make climate action more accessible. Thanks for being part of the journey!
