Beware of Agent chat costs
Beware of Agent chat costs: 86.5% of our credit usage went on conversations
This review concerns ComfyUI Cloud and its paid Comfy Agent, not the free software running locally.
I paid $336 upfront for an annual subscription. During our work on two videos, the annual credit allocation was exhausted. Only after contacting support did I receive a clear breakdown of where the credits had gone:
Comfy Agent: 82,174 credits.
Partner services, mainly lip-sync: 8,998 credits.
GPU runtime: 3,829 credits.
Approximately 86.5% of the credit usage went on the Agent conversation.
The particularly troubling part is that we were using the chat to control the process and avoid unnecessary spending. We repeatedly instructed the Agent not to begin paid generation without our approval. Meanwhile, the conversation itself was consuming far more credits than the actual generation runs.
When the balance started dropping, we actively examined the account and activity pages to understand the costs. We still could not establish the scale of the chat charges. Only support’s investigation gave us the overall picture.
Support explained that long conversations involving large workflows process many tokens, regardless of how much finished video they produce. As a new user, I found the pricing information seriously inadequate and misleading in practice. Had I understood this while working, I would have used the service very differently.
Some of the work produced material I was happy with. One video, however, was unusable in my opinion. My complaint is not simply about output quality: it is about being able to understand and control what I am paying for.
Support found no incorrect charges and added 6,330 goodwill credits. That does not resolve my concern about pricing transparency.
My warning to new users: an annual subscription does not guarantee a year’s worth of use. The credits can disappear quickly, and Agent conversations draw from the same balance as generation — even while you are explaining problems and asking for help.
I needed a clearly visible running cost and meaningful warnings directly in the chat. Investigate the Agent pricing carefully before using it. In our case, the assistance became by far the largest expense.
