Very complicated trip made easy. Three camps selected insured we would see a wide variety of animals. Camps were well managed, bush planes moving us between camps were well coordinated. Cash requirements for tips accurate and helpful.

An African safari is the dream trip for many of us - but with so many choices (e.g. where in Africa? What time of year?) it can be overwhelming. Deeper Africa has won numerous prestigious awards throughout the years, and I now know why. They made planning and trip preparation easy, and their guides were phenomenal. Deeper Africa made our dream become a reality.

Karen and her team help guide you through the decision process with an overview of the African continent and the types of wildlife one can expect to encounter in each country, as well as the various lodging options and level of service and pricing.

After you have booked, the team helps you prepare for your trip with visa and flight assistance, and lots of detailed information on what you will need to bring - and to answer any questions you might have -no matter how many times you ask.

It's when that big day finally arrives, that you find out that this company really knows how to deliver an exceptional experience. We were met at the airport by in-country staff and our guides (for our large group of 11, we had 2 guides). Everyone in our group was so impressed with their knowledge and experience, showing and teaching us about Africa, sussing out those animals who didn't want to be seen, and making each day special. Tears were shed when it came time to say good-bye and head home.

And no worries, the office staff (in-country and back in the US) are available should problems arise during your trip. We had one very small misunderstanding when we checked in at one lodge on a Saturday night local time, but a text/email to Karen and everything was sorted within the hour from 9 time zones away on a weekend!

If we get another chance to go to Africa, we will certainly be calling Deeper Africa once again. Thank you Karen - one and all!

I recently returned from a 13 day safari organized by Deeper Africa. The staff at Deeper Africa did an excellent job getting us ready for the trip. There were 11 of us - my siblings, their spouses and our 91 year old dad. We were coming from different parts of the United States as well as the Middle East and Asia. They coordinated flights for all of us. They set up Zoom meetings with us to answer questions and discuss the trip schedule, the itinerary, what to bring, etc. They helped us with visas, trip insurance, medical coverage, and more. Their guidebook provided information on the different countries in Africa one might go to, what clothing and other items to pack, and a wealth of other information which was essential to being prepared for our adventure.

The Serengeti National Park and the Tarangire National Park and surroundings, along with seeing the animals in their natural area, in and of themselves were magnificent and a truly unforgettable experience. I went to Africa just for this, never expecting that I woul fall in love with the country and the people. Deeper Africa provided us with three guides, Eufrasia “Sia” Nda, Ammy Nnko, and John Mndolwa, who were with us from the moment we exited the airport until our return to the airport. They greeted us with beautiful smiles, warm handshakes and a feeling of friendship. Their English was excellent and enabled us to thoroughly enjoy our time with them and learn about the country, the parks and the animals. Their friendship made this the most amazing and wonderful experience. They were in all ways truly THE BEST people one could know. Thank you John, Ammy and Sia.

I know this is long but I can’t finish without talking about the camps where we stayed. We were at four different camps, which all provided excellent service and were extremely comfortable. Definitely the high side of glamping. They ranged from smaller camps where it was just our group to much larger camps with multiple guests. Deeper Africa staff regularly visit the camps where they book clients. They are aware of how each camp runs and the amenities at each site which is another reason that I rate Deeper Africa as a 5 star organization.

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! Apart from the Safari environment itself -- everything that Deeper Africa provided &/or arranged -- from start to finish -- enhanced our enjoyment of this once-in-a-lifetime experience. The friendly, knowledgeable guides; helpful caring admin support; the facilities we stayed in, the food and service provided were all way and above my expectation! Thanks again!

When you prepared a tour for us for 2019 we had the trip of a lifetime! Or so we thought. Hard to imagine that this trip this February was even better! Everything was coordinated seamlessly and the resorts and our guides were second to none.

The care that was put into every leg of our adventure was careful and detailed. Anyone with whom we came into contact on the lodging/guide side of things was prepared for us and genuinely welcoming. This includes having been met at the airport in Maun, Botswana. Camp hosts in particular were informed of our limited needs (including a dietary restriction) and were graceful in accommodating them. This was our second adventure with Deeper Africa -- the first being ten years ago in Tanzania. There was a risk in it being not as spectacular, since Tanzania was awesome. But the Botswana adventure was wonderful.

We had an amazing 11 day Safari in Tanzania! Our guide Ammy made the trip for us, telling great stories, catering the drives to see the animals we were most interested in and ensuring we were comfortable, safe and having a great time! He was an incredibly skilled driver and navigated a muddy terrain with no issues, even assisting in the rescue of multiple cars stuck in the mud. The camps were very comfortable, the food was great and the animal viewing made this a trip of a lifetime. Would recommend working with Deeper Africa to anyone!

INCREDIBLE. Karen and the Deeper Africa team made planning our trip so easy. They really listened to what our interests were (a little active time, a lot of animals) and helped curate a trip that fit those interests while also helping us to see multiple parts of Tanzania. They didn't try to upsell us or overpack our trip, they just made it enjoyable for what we were asking for. We were well prepped through the planning binder we received and the phone calls we had before we started so we knew what to pack and what to expect along the way. We did start our trip with an unfortunate flight delay (no fault of Deeper Africa) and Karen jumped on the phone with us, talked through the timeline, and made the necessary calls to keep everyone in the loop on the adjustments. After that, from the moment we stepped foot in TZ to the moment we stepped back on the plane to come home, everything was smooth sailing!
We began our trip in Arusha with a cooking class and a coffee tour, learning how to make some traditional food and how to pound and roast coffee by hand. Fun and great to start off on our feet to get adjusted to the new time zone. We then started our 9 day journey to 3 different national parks in Tanzania and saw over 100 different species of animals, from the big five to the birds and turtles. I was surprised by the number of animals that acted like we did not exist in our big truck. They are used to people being around so the majority of the animals ignored us or politely kept their distance, but still allowed us to observe them. And the Tanzanian landscape really is beautiful beyond belief. Your brain cannot comprehend the endless plains and the blue sky until you are there amidst it, breathing it in.
Our guide, Ombeni, was with us the entire trip. He was not only one of the smartest people I have ever met (so many animal facts!) but he also truly cares about nature, about his country, about teaching, and about making our experience the best it could be. He was an excellent driver and knew where was safe and where the animals were most likely to be. We were very lucky to have him and we learned so much from him. He told us about his family, the culture and history of Tanzania and its many tribes and ethnic groups; he taught us some Swahili and a LOT about the animals and plants that are everywhere you look in the national parks. We really enjoyed staying with one guide instead of multiple people because of how well we got to know him. Even if we had not seen a single animal while we were in Africa, the trip would have been worthwhile just for the time we spent with Ombeni.
The trip was mildly strenuous - the main roads in Tanzania are very smooth but the roads in the park can be bumpy and require using your abs to stay in your seat (or biceps and quads if you choose to stand) while riding through the parks. If you are taller than 6'4" you may bump your head on the roof of the truck sometimes while standing. I normally struggle with motion sickness but did not have any issues during the trip.
Each location where we stayed was very comfortable - big beds, running water and clean surfaces, even with the dust. Each location had water containers in our room which helped us stay hydrated (it was tough to drink enough water each day). The permanant structures and the tented camps both felt very secure. There were some bugs, but they were easy to scoop up in a cup and take outside. We did suffer from some biting flies on the truck but each night we were very comfortable and did not have any fly or mosquito issues in any of our rooms or in the dining space.
All in all, a five star experience that I would recommend to anyone looking to experience a safari.

Deeper Africa spent the time with us to understand what we were looking for and delivered. They took care of everything! The places/camps we stayed at were top-notch - unbelievable service and the food was fantastic. Our guides, John Mndolwa and Ammy Nnko, were truly amazing. Our trip was more than we ever expected and cannot thank Deeper Africa and their amazing team enough. Can't wait to use them again on our next adventure!

Our guide, Mr. Ammy Nnko was outstanding - he is an excellent and professional guide and a kind, thoughtful person. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with him for 10 days in February 2024 and couldn't recommend him more highly! Deeper Africa is an amazing boutique gem of a safari outfitter - they took very good care of us every step of the way! Overall, a fantastic trip to Tanzania!

Karen and her entire team at Deeper Africa were absolutely amazing! Their attention to detail was impeccable. The itinerary that they put together between the activities and the hotels was incredible. They listened to our wants and needs and created something memorable for everyone. The transfers within the countries and outside the countries we visited were seamless. I would only use Deeper Africa if going to anywhere in Africa. Its a wonderful company with incredible guides and an amazing owner. Thank you for creating the trip of a lifetime for our family!

Deeper Africa provided a fantastic experience in Kenya and Tanzania for my family. They were very organized, and everything flowed perfectly on our trip. The guides in Tanzania, John and Ammy were outstanding! They were engaging, knowledgeable, and extremely personable. We could not have been happier with the organization we chose to travel with.

The preplanning helped make the trip goes smoothly. All of the information we received helped us get ready, be relaxed, and enjoy every single minute of the Safari. The destinations were perfect. Facilities were always clean, well appointed, excellent food and outstanding service. John, our guide, really made every day spectacular. He deserves credit for an outstanding job.

I returned to Deeper Africa this past August-September 2023 because my 2021 experience with them was excellent!! As a solo traveler, it was important for me to feel confident in the coordination of my itinerary and the professionalism of the guides I spent my days with on safari. Deeper Africa never disappoints. From my guides, David and Ombeni, to the accommodations, the food, the activities and wildlife viewing, my 2nd safari with them was spectacular!! I am very appreciative of the all-around care they gave to me.

This company has incredible integrity. What they said they would do, they did.

Communication is excellent. Every call was answered promptly and all
conference calls and zooms took place on time and the staff was fully prepared.

These are connected and knowledgeable experts. They know the flights, hotel, dining and experiential options with deep detail. They know which operators are safe, excellent, and ethical.

They care. They listened to all of my ideas. And went above and beyond to complete a schedule that would work with all of the details carefully planned.

They have hearts. My journey involved two weeks of remote humanitarian work. They want people to connect and good things to be built. They support folks like me who want to help others.

It was a trip 1/2 way around the world and Deeper Africa made it worry free. They prepared us completely. The adventure was amazing, we saw all the animals we expected and more. The guides and staff at the camps made it such a comfortable experience. I feel like I have a little bit of Africa in my heart because of all the amazing people I met.

Deeper Africa has a very knowledgeable, helpful and creative staff who planned an incredibly beautiful safari for us. Tour guides, Ammy in Tanzania and Abiaz in Uganda, were excellent. They knew everything we wanted to know from the animals, birds, and plants, to the people and their customs and cultures. They taught us so much.They listened to our concerns and were very accommodating. We felt safe with them. Our accommodations were beautiful and comfortable. This trip was perfect in every way!! Loved it!!

The folks at Deeper Africa not only planned but also provided a trip of a lifetime for us. Karen, Marina, and Kristy were all fabulous to work with. The itinerary included safaris in Tanzania and Uganda. The chimpanzee and gorilla trekking was extraordinary! Their guides, Ammy and Abiaz were not only very friendly but also knowledgeable. Wow--every detail was perfect. The customer service was outstanding and both guides, Ammi and Abiaz, were exceptional. Their knowledge of all, including flora, fauna, geography, history, you name it, surpassed our highest expectations. We now consider them members of our family. All accommodations were first rate and we felt safe at all times. We can't imagine a better experience could be had. The Deeper Africa staff were first rate on our preparations and their suggestions were excellent. What more can we say? We would recommend their services without hesitation.
