Catastrophic damage to my bag and the contents
It’s been an emotional rollercoaster since I claimed my bag at Delta I volunteered my hand luggage to be checked after they needed to make room on the plane. I was told it would arrive at its destination safely. It got taken no questions asked or anything. As I got to baggage claim my bag arrived in a tray and I was devastated at the state I saw it in. My bag was completely ripped on one side, the front pocket torn and the zip hanging on for dear life. The contents spilling out and everything looks destroyed. My laptop was damaged and I tried to explain it wasn’t the battery. My laptop charger was ripped and the soles of my shoes ruined but then I see that my camera, chargers for my phone and headphones and hairbrush and my mums Christmas present were missing! I filed a claim. After filling out the form and several phone calls and stating that I had to volunteer my bag and that this wasn’t supposed to be checked in the first place
Delta Airlines came back to say they’re not liable and won’t be doing anything about my damaged and missing items.
With the immeasurable amount of stress during a time I was supposed to be celebrating, due to their gross mishandling of my luggage and the abhorrence customer service both at the airport and after receiving my bag I was accused by one of the staff that I caused the damage suggesting that my laptop battery exploded. Even at the time this was an unsubstantiated claim as there was no evidence to suggest this. After meeting Apple and tech experts they all supported what I initially thought about no explosion but in fact that my laptop had been damaged by another metal that shaved it.
As the holiday ends I’m heading back to university with no laptop due to the poor mishandling of my bag by
Delta resulting my laptop to be shaved and no longer work. Apple stated that the damages were ‘catastrophic’ and not much could be done but wrote down if the laptop was possible for a repair then it would cost $800. I cannot afford a new laptop.
I have my dissertation to work on and videos to edit and I cannot do that without a working laptop. I'm very dissapointed with Delta Airline that they will leave me in this situation without a laptop. Need someone to respond to me asap.
