Disney Cruise Line Lost a Returning Customer Over a $230 Photo Dispute

Our family recently sailed with Disney Cruise Line and purchased a photo package for our trip. We were traveling together as one party in two staterooms, and my credit card was used for the charges associated with both rooms.

While onboard, we specifically asked Disney’s photography staff whether it mattered whose DisneyBand was scanned when our photographs were taken. We were explicitly told that it did not matter and that our photos would all be associated together.

We did not assume. We asked. And then we relied on the answer Disney’s own representatives gave us.

After the cruise, many of my photographs were missing.

That began an unnecessarily frustrating process of trying to locate photos that Disney had failed to properly associate with our accounts. The customer service experience made an already frustrating situation significantly worse. I spent 1 hour and 38 minutes on hold without ever reaching anyone. I eventually had to hang up because I had somewhere else to be. My sister-in-law, who is a travel agent, was ultimately able to reach Disney through her professional channel and help move the issue forward. That experience alone seriously changed my perception of Disney Cruise Line. If I had been a prospective guest calling with questions or concerns about an upcoming cruise and could not reach a representative after nearly 100 minutes on hold, I would have seriously considered canceling my reservation and taking my vacation dollars elsewhere. When customers are spending thousands of dollars on a vacation, being able to reach someone when there is a problem should not require access to a travel agent.

Disney eventually found the missing photographs and extended their expiration date—but instead of making them available under the photo package our party had already purchased, I was told I would need to spend another $230 to purchase them.

I explained the situation in writing, including exactly what Disney’s photography staff told us onboard.

On September 9, Anthony Flynn, Photo Guest Services Associate for Disney Cruise Line, responded by explaining Disney’s written Terms and Conditions regarding photo packages, separate staterooms, adults over 21, and the requirement to request that qualifying staterooms be joined onboard.

And therein lies the problem:

That is not what Disney’s photography staff told us when we specifically asked.

Had the photographers explained those restrictions when we were standing on the ship asking how the system worked, we could have taken whatever steps were necessary while onboard. Instead, we were expressly told that it did not matter whose DisneyBand was scanned, so we proceeded accordingly.

Disney cannot go back in time and give us the correct instructions after the cruise and then expect me to pay another $230 because I relied on the incorrect instructions its own representatives provided.

I will not do it.

What makes the situation even more frustrating is that Disney initially had difficulty locating/associating my photographs at all. So the progression of this experience has essentially been:

Disney’s onboard representatives gave us inaccurate information → we relied on it → my photographs were not properly associated with the package → we had to pursue Disney to locate them → Disney eventually found them → and now Disney wants another $230 for me to access them.

No.

This stopped being about $230 for me a long time ago. It is about customer service and accountability.

Our family spent thousands of dollars on this vacation. I enjoyed enough about the cruise that Disney Cruise Line absolutely could have received thousands more from me through future sailings. Instead, this experience has ensured that I will spend my future vacation dollars elsewhere.

I will also be sharing this experience because families traveling in multiple staterooms deserve to know: do not assume that information given to you verbally by Disney’s onboard photography staff will necessarily match the policy Disney applies after your cruise. Ask detailed questions about exactly who is covered by your package, how each stateroom is associated, and whose DisneyBand should be scanned—and I would recommend verifying those answers before leaving the ship.

Disney had every opportunity to look at this situation and say, “Our staff gave this guest incorrect information. Let’s fix it.”

Instead, they chose to stand behind the fine print and ask for another $230.

Disney Cruise Line’s refusal to resolve a $230 photo dispute caused by information provided by its own onboard staff has cost them a returning customer who would have spent thousands on future cruises.

They won the $230 standoff. Congratulations, Mickey. You fumbled the lifetime customer.

Disney Cruise Booking System hopeless

Trying to book a cruise for October 2027. Hopeless...on -line system not open to book (says Coming Soon) even though their application says it will be open on the day we are trying to book and told it is possibly a 2 hour wait on phone.

RIP off

We sailed from Southampton on the Disney Dream. What a total rip off! You will spend most of the cruise queuing up for things. There were hour long queues to meet a single character, queues for the toilets, restaurants, buffets, tables to eat at, the slides, the lifts, the shows etc.
Accessibility is non-existent & the staff bully guests into leaving 'excellent' reviews. I wonder what happens to staff if they don't get excellent.
The hard sell is always there too.

Very bad experience.

This is by Far a huge disappointment!!! Disney is stealing from all of the people cruising with them. Anything and anywhere you go in the cruise you have to make a big line! You’re going to see mikey or minnie unless you make a 1hr line. Characters dont care about the kids, very stupid rules that dont care about the kids I WILL NEVER recommend this cruise to anyone expecting your kids to have a good experience with characters.

DISNEY DOESN'T CARE ABOUT FIRST TIME CRUISERS

I was unable to book any excursions until June 29 as I am a lowly traveler traveling on Disney for the first time! First time cruisers are given the scraps of tour choices, onboard activities, and check in time. I wanted to do the Sea Lion Swim at Coral World. By the time I was able to book, Disney said the excursion was sold out. SO I went to Coral World's website. They took my reservation and my money and gave me tickets. I then purchased travel insurance on this activity.
A MONTH AND THREE DAYS LATER, Coral World sent me an email saying they had to cancel my reservation due to overbooking. They are saying that they changed their hours and tours. They said I was the LAST to register. They will not provide proof that I was the last reservation. There is NO mention of them being able to cancel my reservation for any reason on my tickets or their website. They have no legal right to cancel my reservation! I am now out $42 for the insurance. Yes, they are giving me a refund but this was the ONLY tour I wanted to go on. I want them to honor my reservations not get refunded. They WILL NOT even try to make room for us. DO NOT BOTHER.
Disney is the same way. Their answer was to book more cruises so I would get the benefit of booking early. They will not honor my tickets or allow me on the tour. They say I can keep checking back to see if something opens up. What about the magic for first timers? Shouldn't we have an equal chance to ANY excursion?! They weren't even sympathetic to my situation. Their idea is to book with them more. For what reason? To be treated like a second hand citizen? DO NOT BOTHER

Ridiculous excursion bookings

if you're considering a voyage on Disney Cruise Line , you need to rethink it depending on what you enjoy cruising for. Me, I like to take excursions in places that I'll never visit again. One-of-a-kind experiences that enhance my overall trip. Unfortunately, Disney could not care less what I enjoy - as long as they get my money up front. We discovered - with ZERO assistance from the professional travel agent - that Disney gives priority to excursion bookings based on your brand loyalty. As far as I can tell, NO OTHER CRUISE LINES DO THIS. Here's how many trips Disney thinks your business is worth:

Castaway Club loyalty tiers to stagger pre-cruise booking options (provided the cruise is paid in full):
Concierge Guests (premium cabins): 130 days prior to sail date
Pearl Members (25+ sailings): 123 days prior to sail date
Platinum Members (10+ sailings): 120 days prior to sail date
Gold Members (5–9 sailings): 105 days prior to sail date
Silver Members (1–4 sailings): 90 days prior to sail date
First-Time Guests: 75 days prior to sail date

Totally unaware that children are not

Totally unaware that children are not allowed in the swimming pools on onboard unless potty trained. No child can wear a swimming diaper either.
If you have a 3/4 year old who loves swimming but not potty trained they have to sit by the wayside and watch others have fun in the pool.
This is a Disney Cruise for goodness sake designed for small children.
Saved up for years to go on this holiday only to have had a disastrous experience ruining the whole holiday.
This should be made crystal clear before booking and a warning to other families before choosing to book.

Very disappointing cruise on the Disney

Very disappointing cruise on the Disney Wonder (April 6–10, 2026, stateroom 2077). I had previously sailed on the Disney Dream in 2023 and the food was excellent, so this was a big letdown. The main dining room food on the Wonder was consistently poor and well below expectations.

We also had several stateroom issues: a constant urine smell in the toilet area of the bathroom, a door that repeatedly would not unlock until the batteries were replaced, a rattling noise, and an intermittent high-pitched sound in the room.

I’ve sailed with Celebrity, Norwegian, Princess, Oceania, Viking, and Disney, and this was honestly the worst cruise experience I’ve had. Very disappointing, especially from a brand known for quality.

Shame

Let me be crystal clear from the outset: the cruise is proceeding. It is non-refundable, and we will be onboard.

It will also be the last dollar my family ever gives to Disney.

Disney Cruise Line’s refusal to allow my daughter to participate in Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique—because she will be 2 years and 10 months old instead of 3—is one of the most rigid, tone-deaf, and brand-damaging decisions I have ever experienced as a customer.

This is not a minor activity to us, and it is certainly not a minor activity to her.

The boutique is the magic. It is the moment. It is the experience little girls talk about, anticipate, and remember. My daughter understands exactly what Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is. She talks about it. She asks about it. She knows what it means to “get princess-ready.” She is excited for it in a way only a child can be—pure, joyful, and completely sincere.

She is advanced for her age, holds full conversations, follows instructions, and engages socially at a level closer to a 3.5–4-year-old. She listens, responds, and behaves with maturity well beyond her years. There is absolutely nothing about her development, attention, or behavior that would make her unsuitable for a supervised, seated, non-hazardous experience like this.

Eight weeks. That is the difference Disney decided mattered more than a child’s excitement and a family’s once-in-a-lifetime memory.

This is not about safety. This is not about capability. This is about a corporate rule enforced without judgment, discretion, or humanity. Pretending that a child is magically unqualified at 2 years and 10 months but suddenly “ready” at 3 is absurd.

This was our first Disney cruise and was intended to be the start of many. We planned to place a deposit for another cruise while onboard. That will not happen.

Beyond the cruise, Disney has now lost:
• A planned Florida Disney Parks trip this year for eight family members
• A second Disney Parks trip next year with extended family
• Any future cruises, resorts, park visits, or merchandise purchases

That loss is entirely self-inflicted.

Since the cruise is proceeding, understand this clearly: we will be visiting Guest Services onboard, and we will escalate this issue repeatedly until it is addressed by someone with actual authority. Not scripted apologies. Not policy recitations. Leadership.

Additionally, this experience will be documented publicly—through the BBB, consumer complaint platforms, cruise review sites, and social channels—accurately and persistently.

Disney built its reputation on magic, imagination, and family memories. What you delivered instead was rigidity, indifference, and a complete failure to act like a premium family brand.

Shame on Disney for choosing policy over people—and for disappointing a child over eight weeks.

Consider this your notice: this family relationship with Disney is over.

Big Price with Little Reward

Firstly it was overcrowded. Wherever you walk it feels like you are in one long queue. We took 2 grandchildren on this cruise, 8 & 10 years old. It was a mistake as the average age of the kids on this January 8-12th cruise was more like babies and young kids up to 6 years old. 2 small pools on deck which were over crowded and people were standing shoulder to shoulder in the pool. Food for the kids was the same each day and unhealthy. Breakfast & lunch had a very poor selection particularly for adults. Evening meal in the restaurants better but same each evening. It felt as though there was no consideration for the adults at all. Whilst the kids were at the Kids Club there is nothing for the adults to do. We are regular cruisers and I honestly felt cheated for the amount of money we had to pay. Every other ship we have been on has been value for money compared to the Disney Cruise. Staff were very pleasant. As at 05/03/2026 still no response from Disney.

We had a great time on the Disney Dream

We had a great time on the Disney Dream and really enjoyed the overall experience. The new island destination was fantastic and easily one of the highlights of the trip. The food exceeded our expectations, with plenty of variety and consistently high quality. Service was excellent across the board, with the crew being friendly, attentive, and professional. While the ship is well maintained, it does show its age in places, and we personally prefer the newer Wish-class ships.

Disney should be magical
.but

As a family of five we decided to take the Disney Fantasy from Southampton for a three night cruise in August.

Booking was easy and we joined a social media group to get tips and advice. We liked the fact we could book one cabin for all of us. It was expensive compared to other mini cruises but understood we were going to be in the Disney bubble.

Embarkation went well although check in said we could pop our carry on luggage to our cabin from 1.30pm, when we tried this our cabin attendant said we couldn’t enter the room.

We were not aware we could eat lunch in one of the main dining rooms so we went to the buffet area, it was manic and we couldn’t get seated. We are an ND family so it was very overwhelming. Once we did get seated we found the buffet food okay but not fantastic.

We then went to our cabin which we found pleasant and clean. We loved having a balcony. The cabin had loads of storage and a split bathroom. The mattress and pillows were amazing!

We had rotational dining and the servers moved with us. Restaurants felt rushed but the food was enjoyable. The kids were able to order the same thing each night and you could order anything off any of the restaurant menus. Breakfast in the royal court was a nightmare and we left after an hour of waiting because we had an activity to get to. Coffee awful and no stirring spoons.

As it was a short cruise from the UK it was extremely busy and the ship was at full capacity. The meet and greets had very long queues. We managed to book a royal gathering which was nice.

We booked the photo package but cancelled it on the last night as we just didn’t have time to stand in long queues to get a photo.

The evening shows were fantastic!

The pool deck was great but very busy.

The parties were great but also very busy, we enjoyed the pirate night.

Kids club open house was good but we felt there wasn’t enough sessions especially as our kids didn’t want to be left alone at the clubs.

Pixie dusting and fish extenders were new to us but it was fun and kids loved giving and receiving Disney themed gifts.

Tipping needs to be included in the cost of the holiday. We felt pressure from crew and lots were giving guests the spiel about feeding their families at home. We bought gifts for our servers and cabin attendant plus we tipped in US dollars. We asked guest services to remove all the automatic tips from our account which they did but disappointingly took over £300 from our bank account when we only owed £23! Trying to still get our money back.

We are glad we did the cruise. We wished Disney were more on the ball regarding disabilities, visible and hidden. It would have been better to have more character meets and a more inclusive kids club.

If I could give 10 stars

If I could give 10 stars, I would. We have sailed on The Wonder, Magic, Dream, and The Fantasy. We have a booking set for the Treasure in August 2026. Disney is our #1 to cruise, and we have done eight sailings. The service is spectacular for my daughter, who was 4 years old on her first Disney cruise (she is now 21 years old). For us adults, the service was out of this world. Food was always good, and if there was ever something that was not to our liking, it was quickly addressed and/or rectified. Our room stewards were always warm and friendly, and they immediately remembered our names and faces.

The dining teams really make it special; they are your team for the entire voyage, and I think it's the best when you get to know people on the ships.

It is expensive, but you get what you pay for. We have sailed on Carnival, Norwegian, and Royal Caribbean. Disney wins for us - every time.
