They promote scam software, falsely claiming to be FREE, only to demand payment once used, causing a huge waste of time.

Do not trust this site . Download links do not work and direct you to other pages that you don't know so you cannot trust.

I tried to download for example "Direct report" for windows and it Norton stops you from downloading saying it is not a safe site. So I stayed away. I trust much more Norton than downloads.cnet

I used to swear by this site, and use it all the time for useful software, back when they ensured that their software was virus and malware free. My last two downloads from this website have both each contained a virus, one of which has caused me an enormous amount of problems. Never again CNET!!!

Some fake downloads are on there so be careful but it was super easy to submit an app to it and they quickly added it to their database with no real hassle expect a form and a couple of emails. Also the installer is the original (I checked the hashes) so overall a pretty good site! Nice team as well.

i use this website for all my downloads, even though my antivirus goes bats**t every time i execute a program! some programs are even bundled with a purple gorilla desktop buddy, now how cool is that?

This site used to be a great resource for downloading free and shareware software but it's gone a very long way down since then.

There's virtually ZERO editorial oversight and the place is crawling with malware and other nasty surprises.

Download.com aka download.cnet.com is the site I always use for general free or paid software downloads. You have to be careful where you download from which makes it nice to have everything common such as anti spyware and dvd/music software available from a known trusted site.
