The bulletpoints are that they don't block your credit card with the deposit, they take it. This means you are subject to interest on the amount paid and the exchange rate upon refund. This has cost me nearly £50 in total. If they blocked it, it would be £0. This company does not care at all. They hide behind their policy. I booked it through Discovery comparison site and their policy does not tally with Elephant's. The staff don't care, have no customer service capacity and would rather argue with you than empathise. Save your money and frustration and go with a company that only blocks the deposit. The woman who came to collect the car was abhorrent. She would be fired in the UK. The man who came was polite and professional. If the owner of Elephant cars is interested in being competitive as opposed to being greedy and unsympathetic to their customers, I would change your policy.

Avoid this company they are scammers just came back from Cyprus we hired car from these cowboys when we returned car they said we had damaged front of car we never did we have had hire cars for 25 years when we go to Cyprus never had any problems until now . We will never use them again staff were ignorant and rude . Rip off company.we had to pay 180 euros .

All this company are interested in is scamming money for damages to their vehicles. The original price might be cheap, at the end of the day they look for other ways to make their money. I rent cars around Europe for around twelve weeks each year, first time with them this year and i would not use them again.

J espère que je ferais éviter des problèmes à beaucoup de personnes . Nous avons louer une voiture en 2024 aucun problème super service mais là ça a changé de propriétaire et c est une catastrophe ce sont des voleurs et ils savent faire !! Après être partis avec la voiture ils m ont envoyé les photos pour me montrer si il y avait des problèmes sur le véhicule je n ai pas trop fait attention … au moment de la rendre il va directement sur l avant carrément sous le pare choc !!! Et la c est rayé !!! Je regarde les photos et la surprise comme par hasard c étais celles d un autre véhicule!! Lui me montre des photos mais bien sur ce devait être des photos qui datent d un bon moment !!! Résultat il nous a pris 230 euros déduit de la caution !!! C est trop facile et quand on parle très peu anglais et qu on a un avion à prendre et qu il nous menace de ne pas nous emmener à l aéroport et bien on paye !!!
Lisez bien tous les commentaires car de ce que j ai lu la même procédure est arrivé à d autres personnes !!
Plus jamais je ne louerai chez eux !! J espère que grâce à ce commentaire j épargnerai des gens de se faire arnaquer
Passez votre chemin il y en a plein d autres certainement plus sérieux ou alors prenez des photos de partout même sous le véhicule

**Elephant Car Rentals – Disappointing Experience**

We chose Elephant Car Rentals on recommendation, but our experience left us disappointed.

The car itself was adequate for getting around, though I’d describe it as a “banger.” It had known issues (central locking didn’t work, tyre pressure warning light stayed on) which we were not told about in advance. A £360 deposit was taken without notice, and no time was given for a proper walk-round inspection before signing. The car already had scratches on almost every panel, so we took our own photos for protection.

Returning the car was no better. The rep arrived 45 minutes late to the agreed 19:00 hand-over, without any communication. After handing it back in the same condition, I was later told there was a crack under the front splitter — something you would only see if you deliberately looked underneath. I know we did not hit anything. Nevertheless, part of my deposit was withheld. Again, no walk-round with the rep was permitted on return.

Since then I’ve learned of other customers experiencing the same treatment, with claims for hidden splitter damage and withheld deposits, sometimes for very large amounts.

Lesson learned: never accept or return a car without insisting on a full inspection with the representative present — including photos and video. While the car worked, the lack of transparency around vehicle condition and deposits makes this company difficult to recommend. I wouldn’t recommend using them without extreme caution.

Mauvaise expérience avec Éléphant Rent a car à Paphos où nous avons loué une voitures 7 places pendant 10 jours.
Dans un garage souterrain, le dessous du pare-chocs avant à un peu raclé par terre. Le loueur a pris 310 Euros de la caution pour une égratignure sur le pare-chocs uniquement visible avec un miroir pour voir dessous!
Pour arriver à un tel montant, il a compté 2 jours de location en plus, en prétextant qu’il perdait ce revenu avec l’immobilisation pour réparer ! Comme si la voiture de 75,000km ne pouvait pas être louée avec une égratignure invisible… En plus d’une mauvaise foi évidente sur l’urgence de la réparation, il est certainement illégal de réclamer ainsi des dommages indirects comme un manque à gagner.
En lisant les autres avis, j’ai pu constater que c’était une arnaque très classique chez eux, nous ne sommes pas les premiers…
Bref, ce loueur est à l’évidence malhonnête.
Aucun moyen d’éviter de perdre sa caution, même en conduisant avec le plus grand soin une voiture loin d’être neuve.

À notre arrivée nous avons compris qu’à la fin de notre séjour des frais seraient facturés…
Personne pas aimable avec des interdictions de circulation dans certaines région de l’île sous peine d’amandes non mentionnées lors de la location.
Des frais de carrosserie nous ont été facturé alors que sur la vidéo faite à notre arrivée des traces etaient présentes.
Menace de ne pas nous déposer à l’aéroport si nous ne payons pas…

Rented a 7 seater, picked up and dropped off on time at airport, v good clean car, no problems at all. Used this comp twice now very satisfied both times, and reasonably priced, deposit back in my account 2 days after return.

I am writing this review based on what appears to be a scam by Elephant Rent a Car, contracted by VIP Cars, which I chose through travelsupermarket.com.

Following initially being charged 3 times by VIP Cars, despite receipt of the first 2 payments being unsuccessful (evidenced by screenshots), the first 2 payments were ultimately refunded, following much time and effort on my part.

On arrival at Elephant Rent a Car at 22:30 on 17/05/2025, I found the 3 staff members to be most unpleasant to communicate with.

The car was parked directly outside the office in the dark with no lighting available to see the condition of the car and it was strongly suggested that I pay in GBP and to wait until daylight the following day to take photographs of the vehicle.

The staff members ridiculed my decision to pay in euros (which I understand is bound by the banks’ rather than the company’s chosen exchange rates), and the representative I had the misfortune of dealing with, spoke to me with condescension throughout, but particularly when I asked about the specific penalties of any new marks made on the car, including between pick up and my taking photographs the following day, with his insistence that everything is documented in the paperwork, that it is ‘common sense’ and that photographs of the car had been taken by them in daylight earlier the same day.

However, I did walk around the car in the dark, with my mobile phone torch, to check for any major marks and I took photographs of all visible aspects of it in daylight the following day (18/05/2025), comparing them to the images received from Elephant Rent a Car, also on 18/05/2025, with no linked time to when their photographs had been taken.

Despite the very unpleasant communication, I assumed all was well, until returning the car on 24/05/2025 and (HERE COMES THE SCAM!), when the car was assessed, some minor scratches were pointed out beneath the front vertical component of the car, not visible when walking around the car taking photographs, and highly likely already present on car collection, since there was no linked time to their photographs (AND PARTICULARLY HAVING SUBSEQUENTLY SEEN A REVIEW HIGHLIGHTING AN IDENTICAL SCAM WHEN RETURNING A CAR TO ELEPHANT RENT A CAR 2 DAYS PRIOR TO ME).

I had €180 plus VAT. deducted from my deposit, with limited capacity to contest it, due to my reliance on an equally unpleasant staff member having control over my being driven to the airport in time for my flight.

I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT VIP CARS (IF THEY ARE NOT LINKED TO ELEPHANT RENT A CAR) IMMEDIATELY CEASE CONTRACTING ELEPHANT RENT A CAR AS A SERVICE PROVIDER, THAT ELEPHANT RENT A CAR ARE AVOIDED AND HOPE THAT ELEPHANT RENT A CAR AND THEIR REPRESENTATIVES ARE ULTIMATELY CHARGED WITH FRAUDULENT PRACTICE.

I would like to enclose images of the damage to the car I drove (number plate: NKT578) (which I believe was not done by me), as a record of what I have paid to have professionally repaired over 3 days from 24/05/2025.

Beware..There was a small bit of paint missing at the very bottom of the front bumper. We had inspected the car on pickup and took photos of a number of minor dints and paint damage on other parts of the car. When we returned the car it was inspected. The Guy doing the inspection with a Mirror on the end of a pole went to the front of the car and messed around looking at the front bumper for a while and then called over a colleague who quickly pointed out this bit of missing paint out of normal sight, at the base of the bumper. I was told this would cost 180Euro plus VAT. As he walked back to the office I asked if he was going to check the rest of the Car which he then very quickly and without any interest did. He didn't see or question any of the minor issues that I had photographed on pick up. This was a set up. They knew what they were looking for. I would not trust this company one little bit. FRAUD is what I call it. Local Police have been informed

Rented a Kia Ceed (or similar). Got a 13-y-o Mazda with 111000 km on the clock. Returned to a very dark car park. Parked close to the kerb in front. The radio was not on and I neither heard nor felt anything when I parked. Unfortunately the front bumper was overlapping a (very low) planter and there was a small scrape under the front bumper which could only be seen with the use of a mirror. I was charged €214 inc vat for this. When you add the hire charge of €240 and the extra driver charge of around €35, I ended up paying 15-20% of the total value of the car for 1 week’s rental. If anyone on here hires a clapped-out Mazda estate from Elephant, be sure to get a photo of the underside of the R front bumper before driving it - there is no way they will be getting the damage repaired.

I rented the car from Elephant through CarJet. Normally I make research before renting/booking and found some interesting stories that turned out to be lack of knowledge or complete ignorance.
The rental fee was very reasonable, the car was tip-top (few years old basic Ford Fiesta). Everyone spoke excellent English, they were waiting for us at the airport and gave us a lift to the office that's actually on the main road going from the airport to Paphos centre.
I was told at the reception not to go off road, they even listed places that are off limits. This does not mean you cannot park the car in a non-graveled parking lot. There are 4x4 tours organised all around the city, if you wanna see places with no proper roads and where you would not take your own car either, join an organised tour.
900 euro deposit was taken from my credit card - this is quite normal, every single car rental company takes some deposit and only credit cards can be used. 900 is not a lot, some places take double of that. It is to cover damage you have caused, then you can get it back from the insurance.
On our departure I have returned the car to the aiport and left it there, sent pictures to the company and they returned my deposit the same day.
Highly recommended, no scams, very friendly staff.

These people are total liars. They charged my credit card 900 euro, and when I called and told them to take it off they refused, so I brought the car back and was told I would get a refund. I waited a week and then they said they changed their mind and would not give a refund. Besides that a week after returning the car they put another 900 euro on my credit card that is now in dispute. These people are not good, avoid them.

Friendly service, cars good price and well maintained slightly older vehicles.
Will be happy to use again.

I could not fault this company. They were friendly and completely trustworthy. The car was just what we needed, at a very reasonable price, and pick up and return procedures smooth and efficient. We would definitely use them again.

Reasonably priced, no scams. Picked up at Paphos airport, 5 minute drive to their offices, out in another 5-10 minutes. Sent photos of the car state so no fiddles. Nice little economical automatic runaround, no limits other than not going off-road. Easy to drive. Equally easy on return, quick look round and check, and gone at the same sort of speed. Highly recommended. We plan to return in May and will use them again.

Just returned my car after two weeks at Polis Cyprus.
By far the best rental car experience we've had.
Our collection on arrival was prompt, we had a courtesy call before we even left UK to check our flight number.
Car was in very good order even though it was a 9 years old ford fiesta.
Staff were very polite and we were very happy they didn't try to sell us extra unwanted insurance as we've experiencef previously.
All car imperfections were shown to us before we drove away with photos of proof.
We will definitely use them on our future holidays and would highly recommend them to anyone.
