Steven Harsum is a very skilled and approachable eye surgeon. He told me exactly what was going to happen all the way through so there were no surprises. The outcome exceeded my expectations. I went in to get my cataracts fixed and I walked out finding that I didn't need the distance glasses I have worn for 50 years. I'm really pleased with the experience and the outcome and I would urge anyone who is looking to get their eyes fixed to go to Steven

From my first consultation, Mr Harsum filled me with confidence in his abilities. He explained the procedure and relaxed me on the day. Charming, proficient and professional.

Mr Harsum is amazing. His bedside manner is exceptional, and he is a skilled surgeon. I was very nervous before my lens replacement surgery, but his calm demeanour put me at ease. The surgery itself was incredibly swift, and I was stunned by the immediate improvement in my vision. After the operation on my first eye, I followed his advice during the subsequent consultation and added a slight prescription to my other eye. I'm so glad I did - my vision is now fantastic. I can read without glasses, although I still use over-the-counter reading glasses for work. Plus, my long-distance vision is crystal clear.

Mr Steven Harsum and his secretary were very accommodating with respect to treatment dates. The procedures on both eyes to remove cataracts were painless and I felt very confident and relaxed in Mr Harsum`s care. His team at St Anthony's provided excellent support. procedures on 3rd and 31st March 2025

My first contact with Mr Harsum was in the Spring of 2021. When I knew in July this year that I needed to have a cataract operation I telephoned his Secretary and was fixed up immediately at Ashtead Hospital. She is very efficient and helpful.
After my Consultation with Mr Harsum when he explained what he would do in the two operations my mind was completely at rest. He is very positive and knowledgeable and dates were fixed.
I cannot praise him enough as I have excellent vision now and have no need for glasses at all. Colours are brilliant and I have real depth of vision. The best since I was 11 !! Thank you so much for your expertise and care.

We saw Mr Steven Harsum at Ashstead recently after my wife was unequivocally diagnosed with Wet Macular Degeneration by a senior private consultant elsewhere. This (faulty, as it turns out) diagnosis was seemingly catastrophic for my wife, condemning her to a lifetime of monthly intra ocular injections and inevitably failing eyesight at the age of 57. In a wonderful Doc Martin moment, after examination and scans, Mr Harsum re-diagnosed my wife's issue as far less concerning CSR, not Wet MD. In fact, I suspect he already knew this even prior to our arrival, having requested my wife's historical opticians scans. In sum. I cannot recommend him highly enough - massively competent, pleasant and diligent. Mr Harsum's competence appears to have even rubbed off on his secretary - who expressed some suprise on the first contact call that my wife might have Wet AMD at her age. 10 stars, if they were available.

Mr Harsum performed surgery on my eyelid and close area, he did this skillfully and my eye looks normal again. His manner and all the staff at Ashford Hospital were kind, calm, and caring and put me at ease straight away, couldn't be happier!

It was an absolute pleasure to meet Mr. Harsum. I was extremely nervous about having my eye treatment, however, from the moment I entered the consultation room he helped me to feel more at ease. Have recently had both eyes, refractive lens exchange, by Steve Harsum. Everything from initial consultation to after care has been superb! Very calm and caring professional whom can settle your nerves and is happy to answer your questions in layman’s terms. Katherine, his secretary also deserves five stars!! Brilliant service and care was given to me when I had my cataract operation for both eyes done in July and August 2020.
I was very worried about the operation as one should, but I needed to have operations done to improve my eyesight. I choose Mr Steven Harsum from his previous reviews and also I was impressed by his work in other countries helping people with bad eyesights.
I was extremely happy for the care and the operation, everything was explained step by step and my mind put at ease.
I only need reading classes now, and I could see perfectly after the operation, one day eyes were sensitive for light but after that all is very good. Did not believe!
I would highly recommend Mr S Harsum if you are thinking of having cataract operation done.

My first cataract done nearly four weeks ago and the next due in a few days. Mr Harsum was calm and courteous explaining things in simple to understand language which helped to put my mind at rest. So far so good! Sick of drops but they have obviously helped. Thank you Mr. Harsum.

I received good medical care prior to my two eye operations and this continued at hospital where I was a day patient on two separate days. Due to covid restrictions my stay in hospital was handled very carefully in order to avoid infection. Iwas happy with the care and efficient service that I had at all times. My cataract operation with Mr. Harsum was a very positive experience from start to finish. The consultation was thorough, discussing all my surgery options and answering all my questions in a friendly, pleasant manner. The operation itself, on both eyes at the same time, was extremely quick, allowing me to leave hospital almost immediately. And the end result has been amazing. I now have better vision than for most of my life. Mr. Harsum's calm, reassuring manner made me feel totally relaxed throughout the procedure. I had asked to have the cataracts in both eyes done at the same time. Mr Harsum reviewed my notes and agreed to do them both together. The surgery on my eyes was very quick and I felt no pain, merely a bit of discomfort. when the first eye was done, he checked with me to see if I was happy to have both eyes done - in case I had changed my mind - I hadn't and so the 2nd eye was done. I was very happy with the outcome, being able to see further than I have ever done in my life, but needing reading glasses - which is what I was told previously. I am very grateful for the sight that I now have.
