when I contacted first legal they told me I would get my money back for the front door and back door I paid for out my own pocket as the doors were not safe and Sandwell council would not change them apparently there’s no funding for this.
I have complained about my doors over and over it’s all on record they even came to my house took the door off shaved it down and put it back on as the wood was that old it kept swelling with the weather
The state of inside my home and what I had to live in was absolutely heartbreaking plaster falling off the walls dust everywhere some parts were back to brick . I’m a single mom and my late father payed for my home improvements losing my father in the mist of all this to , listen it’s not been easy and I have to contact first legal for information regarding my case they didn’t update me
Anyway it’s now Friday 22nd may and I’m still waiting for my compensation witch is £1000 by the way what a joke my doors were £2500 not to mention the other work I’ve had done because Sandwell council wouldn’t fix it (no funding) (no money) this is what I continuesley was told.
I was told it would be in my bank by the 19th may 2026 so I had to call back as that is not the case I was then told by my case worker (case worker number 2 or 3 I think ) I should receive it today well surprise surprise there’s no compensation money in my bank
Dissatisfied disappointed angry and very upset I shouldn’t have bothered with none of this what a joke doubt I will be paid anything

I contacted them over a disrepair issue but they told me an infestation relating to Moat Homes was an Environmental Health problem and to contact the Council, which I did. Lo and behold they said it was a legal issue. You can now see what we are up against in this rotten corrupt Country. See Greenwich Council post

I engaged with first legal 13 months ago to help with a stamp duty claim, unfortunately they made a mistake with the type of filing and claim type and I am still without conclusion.
No apology, still no resolution, promise of the complaints team contacting me to resolve and support and still haven’t had that. Not great at communication either - would avoid. Issue still not resolved!

I saw an ad for these guys on instagram and thought it was a scam but I tried it anyways. They were immediately on our case and began to go to court with our local council over housing repairs. Soon after we saw them coming to take pictures as evidence and then soon after we didn’t hear anything for a while. Until they came back and said that the claim had been settled and that the council would be coming to repair our house. Within 3 months they did what we struggled to do for 1 year. They don’t take anything from you unless you win the case which is good model of operation. Thank you guys!

I wasn't aware of that Stamp Duty Land Tax reclaim option, until I was advised by a friend who had listened patiently to my news, that the house I had just purchased, was uninhabitable. I knew it needed a lot of work carried out on it, but not to the degree that was uncovered, days after completion.

I found First Legal via a search on the internet, and contacted them to discuss whether a claim would be successful. . The team, including Emma, Jack and Stephen Coyle, were extremely helpful and and dealt with my reclaim extremely efficiently and courteously. They requested a report from the builder, with relevant photographs, and this was submitted with the necessary paperwork that First Legal took care off.

The funds received, will all be used on the previously unbudgeted works.

I approached a few UK solicitors on-line in 2022, to inquire about the potential stamp duty re-imbursement and was promptly responded in a kind and professional manner by Jack Robertson. We had a few e-mail exchanges, but my condition did not meet the requirement at that time. Jack continued to follow up on a monthly basis. In January 2023, Emily Fitzpatrick took over my case, and by summer I was ready to provide the necessary documents. It took only a few weeks until the stamp duty re-imbursement was approved.
