The course is very interactive and engaging which has been refreshing in comparison to other studies I have done! And the Student Support team has a wealth of knowledge and is easy to get in touch with, which is very helpful :)

Effective and Flexible Training
I completed a certificate with the AFA and was very impressed. The course was relevant and up-to-date, the instructors knowledgeable, and the flexible schedule made learning manageable alongside my daily commitments. Highly recommend for anyone pursuing fitness certification.

Affordable but needs some improving
Although you receive qualifications through this course, I do not believe the skills required to become a successful personal trainer are acquired. A positive aspect of the course is that it is affordable compared to others out there. I cannot speak about the in- person course as only completed some study online however the online modules felt impossible to complete. The quizzes required a 100% pass rate and had a 24 hour resit time, which was frustrating. The videos attached to each module were quite disappointing as it seems they were filmed once and then uploaded, even with some errors. When completing case studies, some of the videos were not appropriate to fulfil learning requirements. The video assessments required by the course are honestly ridiculous and do not adequately assess whether or not you have the required skills. Some of the student support staff, namely Eddie are extremely helpful and it is obvious he loves what he does. It is promising to note that AFA has many connections in the industry that are likely to lead to further employment, however I do not feel very confident that simply this course will make you a outstanding personal trainer. I would recommend completing an in person course, whether this one or another to truly understand what is required on the job, more than a placement could give you.

We appreciate your honesty and can assure you that we have documented your feedback internally so we can consider how to make improvements in the delivery of our qualifications.
While we understand there is a lot of work associated with the qualification and some of the assessments are repetitive, we are bound by the education framework set out by the government which is in place to ensure we adequately prepare you for work in the fitness industry.
As this is the initial qualification required to be a Personal Trainer, we do encourage ongoing Professional Development to continue your growth and upskilling throughout your career.
It's great to hear about your positive experience with our Student Support team, in particular Eddie. We do put a significant emphasis on supporting our online students as it is the most popular option due to its flexibility and affordability.
We do have an in-person course available in Melbourne and encourage those who live in Victoria to take up that option, but it's not for everyone due to the time and cost commitment.
For those living interstate, we are utilising feedback like yours to explore options that would cater to more practical learning.

Horrible experience- I signed up for…
Horrible experience- I signed up for the Cert III and IV and found the course so uninteresting. The teachers made the whole course so boring and i found it so tough to pay attention. I called up asking for help and wanting to cancel and i got directed to just continue the course and ask for help when needed. No body told me about the 28 day cooling off period until after i was out of it. I sent many texts requesting to cancel my course and was ignored every single time. I then called them to cancel because they ignored every single message and they sent a form and said once i filled it out my course would be cancelled. I did the form sent it back and continued to be charge. When i called back to check it was cancelled they said they couldnt tell me and said they would call me back to let me know. Instead of calling me they sent me a automated message that said i wasnt allowed to cancel and had to pay out the rest of my contract. Im 18 years old and live by myself i can't afford to pay the rest of a contract for a course that will get me no where. So so disappointed in the service and wish i read these reviews before starting the course. This company is a scam. They should have told me i had 28 days the first time i was in contact with them asking for help to cancel. I would have done it then. I even had someone to transfer the course to but they would let me - which makes no sense because they wouldn't loose any money.

It's disappointing to hear that you feel this way about your experience with us.
We pride ourselves on our support and communication with students, so if things have been missed, we do apologise for that. We have made efforts to check in with you regularly throughout your course, however it wasn't until four months into your studies that you requested to withdraw.
Our philosophy relating to withdrawal requests is to handle each situation on its merits, however, after looking into your particular circumstances, your request came outside of your 28-day cooling-off period (which makes you liable for the full fees) and the reasoning you provided we felt did not warrant special consideration.
As stated in the T&Cs in the original enrolment documentation that you agreed to, we don’t offer a pay-per-unit model, hence why there is a four-week cooling-off period, much longer than any other fitness education provider.
With our courses, we give students plenty of time to complete (12 months for each of the Certificate III & IV), with options to extend. This provides students with the opportunity to take some time off for personal or work reasons and then come back to the course with adequate time to complete.
When you first enrolled with us, you indicated that you'd like to start a PT business and we'd love to help you achieve that goal, so we do encourage you to continue your studies.

Waste of money
Waste of money.
Program was so terrible, I stopped it all together because it seemed like it was load on top of load. So tedious.
Asked for leniency for my mental health and they said I wasn’t allowed to take time off. Learnt there was a 28 cooling period that was in a seperate handbook but not in the actual agreement. So after doing a few quizzes, I now have to pay $2850. Completely ripped off. I wish I read the reviews before signing up.

i am currently studying the cert iv and i am finding the assessements contain a lot of requirements that seem redundant - at times i felt that some sections in assessments are merely required to stack up the work. not to mention the ridiculous amount of work required for the log book, they are basically asking me to redo every assessment i have done until now? (which i might add I've had to resubmit multiple times) shouldn't i just be logging my hours with my mentor instead of logging all environmental factors?!.. eeuugghh.. I'm just losing my spark for the industry based on the amount of work that is required here. i did my my cert iii through AIPT and their modules were easier to navigate and assessments were more concise and straightforward. i thought i was getting close to finishing, only to be faced with a 107 page project.. sorry AFA, not a fan.

The best place to start your fitness professional journey !
I just completed my certificate iii and iv in fitness in Australian Fitness Academy. The student support team always there for the help. The online learning platform is easy to navigate and course content is amazing. I love the video tutorials that show the correct techniques and teaching cures. And the cert iii and iv Manuals (text books) are great. You will learn everything you wanted to know as a Fitness instructor / Personal Trainer.
Thank you for AFA Management and Support Team, now I am a qualified and confident Personal Trainer.

It has been an amazing experience with The Australian Fitness Academy. Certificate III and IV course have improved my personal training knowledge, skills, build my confident and fulfill my passion in Health and Fitness. I was an online student but felt like face to face with all the tools are available on hands; lectures, webinars, 24-7 student support team during my studies.

Not very compassionate.
I’m sure that they’re great when you’re able to actually study, but if you have a change in circumstances and need to drop out or defer for a year, you can’t.
You’re locked in.
Unlike TAFE where you can pay only for the units you’ve completed then quit the course (possibly picking it up again at a later stage and being RPL’d for the previous units) you can’t with AFA. They require you to pay the whole lot with only 1 month buffer.
I signed up for cert III and IV and could barely complete up to unit 5 of the cert III before my personal circumstances prevented me from further study.
So, before you take up these courses, ensure you’re not going to have any unforeseen surprises arise in your life and can afford to pay the course outright or you’ll be left being kicked when you’re down like I was.
A cool $2850 for nothing.

We do endeavour to handle each situation on its merits, however, after looking into your particular circumstances, it seems that your request to withdraw back in October came outside of your 28-day cooling-off period (which makes you liable for the full fees) and the reasoning you provided we felt did not warrant special consideration.
In our efforts to help you cover the cost of the course, we suspended your payments, in fact, longer than what is stated in our terms and conditions, to give you an opportunity to organise your finances.
We don’t offer a pay-per-unit model as, like any course, modules are superseded every couple of years to stay up-to-date with industry standards, which means particular units may not be deemed relevant in the future. This is why we encourage students to get fully certified rather than just complete individual units.
With our courses, we give students plenty of time to complete (12 months for each of the Certificate III & IV), with options to extend. This provides students with the opportunity to take some time off for personal reasons and then come back to the course with adequate time to complete.
It seems that you’ve already attempted the majority of your Certificate III, so if you’d like to continue to complete your studies, we’d love to help you get back on track. You can contact us on 1300 232 348.

100000% RECOMMEND! The help from the academy was amazing and I am so thankful as without them I would have failed my course. The hardest thing about it was putting the time and effort into dedicating and motivating myself to study. I struggled with the online learning as it was so different from being in a classroom but if you are wanting something part time around commitments this is definitely the place to come. As long as you put in the work and effort you will be okay! I paid $50 a week until all was paid off and even got discounted as I am doing the Certificate 4 as well and at the time they had a promotion. If you need more time you are able to get a 6 month extension(at an extra cost) and student support are so helpful so don't be afraid to contact them whenever you need, they are there to help. Work experience was a little tricky without a manual on hand so definitely recommend always having that. While doing my course I worked Full Time 40hrs a week, a mother to my son at the time and also at the end was pregnant with my second... Just so you know how busy I was. Anyways GOODLUCK with finding a course and again HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE ACADEMY :)

Absolutely appalled with this rto
Absolutely appalled with this rto, I asked for a statement of attainment for what I had been marked on only to be told I couldn't have one because their units are "clustered" despite it being the responsibility of the rto to allow past and present students to have access to their results not to mention how differently every assessment is marked due to outsourcing, it seems almost as though they look more at box ticking rather than content most of the time and because of the outsourcing one cannot even speak to the person marking your work as it is always someone different, you could have to resubmit on something like failing to fill in a fake address on a form for a made up case study and wait almost a week to have it marked again by somebody else completely different.
If I can't get my statement of attainment I have to restart again through someone else. Giant rip offs, low quality provider.

We’re very disappointed to hear about your experience. We just wanted to clarify why you were unable to receive grades for the Certificate IV units on the Statement of Attainment.
In order to be graded as competent in a unit, you need to complete both the online theory and assessments AND those associated with the work experience (as you did when you completed the Certificate III in Fitness). Unfortunately, as the work experience wasn’t completed, we were unable to grade you as competent in any of the Certificate IV units.
We can provide a Statement, but it will have the grades NYC (not yet competent) against each unit.
As you’ve been studying with us for 4 years, we’d be happy to discuss a solution that will help you obtain these units for your Certificate IV in Fitness so you can complete the Personal Trainer qualification.
